BERKELEY COUNTY, WV - A massive manhunt is underway for an inmate who escaped from a prison van in Berkeley County Wednesday morning.
Albert Voute was being transported from Kentucky to New Jersey to face an armed robbery charge, but he managed to get out of his leg shackles. He is a white man, around 5-feet-9-inches and is about 175 lbs with black hair.
Voute escaped around 3:30 a.m. when the van stopped at a Burger King.
That Burger King is on Route 901 in the Spring Mills area of Falling Waters, W. Va.
Police are using K-9 units and a helicopter to track him down and the U.S. Marshal service is now involved. According to U.S. Marshal Gary Gaskins, officials should be on alert this evening. He suggests they follow a few precautions to protect themselves from a man who should be considered dangerous. "Any extra lighting, definitely lock all doors and windows, be aware," Gaskins said, "Be conscious of the fact that we have a subject who is out on the loose that should not be."
The Berkeley County school system sent out an alert to parents Tuesday morning and is warning them to be on alert. Voute was wearing an orange t-shirt and orange pants. If you have any information at all, call 911 or get in touch with the U.S. Marshal's Office in Martinsburg at 304-267-7179 or West Virginia State Police at 304-258-0000.
