Escaped Prisoner By My House! UPDATE

My friend just messaged me and said that her friend contacted her to let her know they are searching right down the road from us now. They believe he may be hiding in the woods. The woods connect to MY house! My friend(who lives at the beginning of our lane) passed two police vehicles right off our road and she is freaking out as well.

I hate this!

That's scary. I have to chuckle at this though

BERKELEY COUNTY, WV - A massive manhunt is underway for an inmate who escaped from a prison van in Berkeley County Wednesday morning.

Albert Voute was being transported from Kentucky to New Jersey to face an armed robbery charge, but he managed to get out of his leg shackles. He is a white man, around 5-feet-9-inches and is about 175 lbs with black hair.

Voute escaped around 3:30 a.m. when the van stopped at a Burger King.

That Burger King is on Route 901 in the Spring Mills area of Falling Waters, W. Va.

Police are using K-9 units and a helicopter to track him down and the U.S. Marshal service is now involved. According to U.S. Marshal Gary Gaskins, officials should be on alert this evening. He suggests they follow a few precautions to protect themselves from a man who should be considered dangerous. "Any extra lighting, definitely lock all doors and windows, be aware," Gaskins said, "Be conscious of the fact that we have a subject who is out on the loose that should not be."

The Berkeley County school system sent out an alert to parents Tuesday morning and is warning them to be on alert. Voute was wearing an orange t-shirt and orange pants. If you have any information at all, call 911 or get in touch with the U.S. Marshal's Office in Martinsburg at 304-267-7179 or West Virginia State Police at 304-258-0000.
Couldn't they say orange prison garb? lol

Stay safe!

My DH pointed out last nite that by now he has most likely found a clothesline or managed to break in somewhere and ditched the orange.

What bothers me is that he was arrested for Armed Robbery which means he is not afraid to use force. DH does own guns, but I have the worst gun phobia around. I am not even sure how to load it or what bullets go to what gun...I'm thinking it might be time to learn, though.

Im down near the Children's home, on the back of the court there, they had k9 units this morning up in the maintenance buildings parking lot there. Been texting all day to my wife what I can hear on the scanner. They have been all over this area last night and today.

They just put my the three schools by my house(all within 5 block radius) on total lockdown. Thank goodness, DS is already home with me:scared1:

You should definitely learn! And I say this as an urban Canadian who won't even keep guns in the house. For me personally, I think guns belong at the range, in a locker.

But I'm glad I learned how to use them, regardless. There's really nothing scary about them, especially once you've taken them apart a billion times, and scrubbed each bit clean, and reassembled it, and then then had to show that you can practically do it in your sleep. Firing it, you learn pretty fast that a) it's a lot harder to hit anything than it looks on TV, and b) a rifle can give you a pretty good bruise (even a black eye!) if you don't hold it right.

And most importantly, you learn that it's just a machine. It doesn't do a darn thing without someone holding it.

I think everyone should know how to handle a gun. And if your husband is going to have them in the house - YOU need to know all about them, especially how to make them safe.

Not sure why they stopped at BK, btw. The McDs at this exit is open, but not the BK that early I believe. And the fact that the one employee was asleep while the other one was driving and not keeping an eye on the prisoner? Comon!
I keep on hearing stuff on the police scanner I have at the house. Its a throwback to when I was a volunteer firefighter. Always pops up when Im moving stuff. Never thought I would be glued to it like I am now. They had dogs go through my yard late last night, and down the railroad tracks towards your area, DB. I'll keep ya updated, but I think they have lost him. They were up near hedgesville this morning, no way that guy got that far barefooted.

Mag, I had relatives in Ontario when I was a kid. My father always taught me, being a Canadian himself, that you all were more civilized anyhow so you didnt need guns.

My neighbor's daughter just came home and said the police were in North Middle. She overheard the police say that he was spotted behind the school. My DH came home early. He didn't want me here alone with our DS. DH said from what you are describing he followed the RR tracks and then veered off by one of the paths near here. DH knows this area like the back of his hands and is already placing bets on where he "could" find shelter form the rain. Needless to say, DH is on the lookout.

if they find the guy in a pair of flip flops, I think they are mine... I can't find mine on the back deck... lol

Well, that and we wield a mean hockey stick. ;)

Thanks for the updates, I'm glad you guys are all safe.

Fortunately we live in the digital age, and with the wonder of Google Maps, we can follow along.

North Middle seems to be in a fairly "open" area. He's either getting bolder, getting scared, or running out of resources. I'm surprised he'd venture into that area, knowing that he'd be spotted.

Continue to stay safe and keep us updated. I like following along with my aerial maps. :thumbsup2

naw, my dad was a curling champ, so I know how to throw stones if this guy comes around. Think I got a crate of those next to where the police scanner was! LOL

Apparently, he was spotted in the Opequon Meadows Subdivision trying to break into a man's garage. That subdivision bumps up to the fields across from our lane...close to WRNR radio station.

My wife just said that area is out of the question now for buying a house! LOL shes so critical of the lil things.

Herald Mail is reporting that he left his shoes behind. They also said ANYTHING even minor like missing hoes should be reported to the police...

Heigh ho! Heigh ho! It's off to freedom he goes? :scared1:

I don't see where he has been caught yet. Any activity still going on?
