Cheeringmom I hope you had fun at the beach, I wish we lived so close to a beach!!

Well I have had a great shopping day, I got some pins from the Disney store which they have just started to sell. Because of my DLRP shareholders card I got 10% off so really I got a pin free! Then I got a top and some shoes to wear when I go to Gordon Ramseys restaurant, they were in the 50% sale. Also I have been looking at a lens I want for my DSLR camera for a while, but it costs £320 so I hadn't got one as it was a little too expensive to justify, but I saw that in a 50% off sale aswell so I got that too!! It will be a perfect every day lens for my camera in the parks!! Pete and I have also been chatting about a WDW trip in a few years time by ourselves. We are going with our friends again next Christmas which I am so looking forward to, but we have decided we also want to do a trip at some point on our own (all our WDW trips have been with our friends and they have been 3 times without us so they won't mind.) I think we will be at teh Beach Club Villas for the christmas trip as that is where our friends own DVC and we love that resort. We had thought about booking the YC or BC for when we go by ourselves as we love the Epcot resort location. But I have been researching club level at AKL and as we will have a car anyway I think we might opt for that for a change as it looks really nice. We have been to AKL before and liked it and the club level there seems better than the YC and BC.

Greetings,, well today has been busy.. got Eric packed and off to the Marching Band Hawaii trip.. he should have a blast.. he left Chi at 3 pm CST and got to LA at 5:30 PT.. then change planes and off to Hawaii.. He is landing in Honolulu about 9:30 LC which is 5 hours earlier than CT..

Meanwhile back at the ranch my dryer stopped working.. wouldn't turn on at all.. so I checked the website for appliance samurai .. and Geoff research this issue, took the dryer apart and tested various things.. he concluded that I needed a thermofuse.. so they left to Sears appliance and got one.. installed it and NOTHING HAPPENED>>he researched some more, did some more taking apart of the dryer, testing things and concluded that he didn't have the expertise to determine the causes..

So DH and I researched new dryers.. we went to Sears..where no one would wait one us at all.. just too busy chatting with each other.. then we went to Lowes, SAMs - where DH still had his card but our memebership expired but if they had the dryer at the right price we would have renewed - to Costco - where they let us in because we had an expired SAMs membership and wanted to look at Costco..The Costco n schaumberg had a dryer that was many levels above what we had looked at for a really cheap price.. we left, i went online to research the dryers.. and the one at Costco was the cheapest and the best by $200...So I called a friend to get her referral number so she would get a free pizza. and we went to the Costco in Lake Zurich.. why?? the tax in Cook County is much higher than the tax in Lake County.. so we wanted to save some $$$.. Well Lake Zurich didn't have the dryer.. so back to Schaumberg we went..joined Costco.. we got a $20 gc for joining plus the free pizza and additional $$ off the dryer as we got the floor model..

so we are home and DH and Geoff are going to install.. I am gonna miss Geoff so much when he is gone...:sad1:
Tomorrow we are going to Cornell for Scholarship Recognition Day for Geoff..This will be the first time that DH has visited Cornell..

anyway back to helping with the dryer install...

Stephanie has begun her spring break with a stomach virus:guilty:
The poor thing was sick most of the day yesterday, and her plans with my mom can no longer happen today - she's not happy :sad2: Luckily she slept all night (I didn't, because I was listening for her), and now she just woke up like a grizzly bear:eek: Crabby, crabby, crabby!!! It's going to be a long day with her at work with me :headache:

Well, I need to run and take Sophie out and get ready for my fun day with Stephanie at work. I sure hope she cheers up, because it's going to be a long day if she doesn't:rolleyes:

Have a good day!!

Good morning Taglikins. Looks like it's been quiet here for a few days. I guess everyone is busy, busy, busy.

The kids are back in school now, after a very busy spring break. Yeah!!! We had fun, but I need the break. Well not really a break because I spent all yesterday working on class projects for the upcoming school auction. Got Ian's class' finished up around 2:30am. They came out really cute - water colors that the kids did, picture of them "holding" their artwork (took pictures of them holding a posterboard, printed them, Xacto knifed them out, mounted together with their artwork, framed). I hope all the parents/families buy them.

Got some good news to share - GREAT news really. Ian got into the school we applied to for next year. Competition was really stiff. There were only 14 spots for boys and he got one. I know of at least 7 other boys at his current school that applied, plus who knows how many others. And I heard there were lots of teachers kids and siblings in the mix which get preference. Let's just say OF is extatic - he went to this school from kindergarten through high school so he has some major ties there.

Oops, mommy duty is calling. Have a great day everyone. :)

Not to much new around here :upsidedow

RRBB - Congrats on Ian getting into that school :cheer2:

It's time to get ready for work
Have a great day everyone!!

Hi everyone,

Slo How is Stephanie doing? Sorry to hear she was sick for her break.

RRBB Congratulations on Ian getting into the school you wanted him to go to.

Geffric How is the new dryer doing? I hate it when appliances break down. Our old freezer decided to pack up 2 days before we flew to America once, we decided to beg our friends to store our stuff until we got home and then we sorted it out!

Well this week for me has been crazy, on Tuesday I had possible the most sureal and bizare event in my life happen. It was also extremily sad. It is an extremily long and complicated story but it made me thankful for the basic things I have such as my family and a roof over my head in a safe place to live.

So does anyone have any nice plans for the weekend? Pete and I are going to Alton Towers on Saturday to renew our annual passes. The park opens for the new season this weekend so it will be nice to see the changes they have made, plus ride some of my favourite coasters!!

I am totally not knowledgeable about computers, but I am getting better with age. Last week I realized I could put my CD's on itunes (yes it took me over a year to figure this out), and all this past week I've been putting songs and CD's on my ipod (when I eat lunch and sit at my desk at work). Now I have 967 songs on there - I love it!!!! When I take the girls to library tomorrow, I'm going to check out their CD's and add more. I made an easy listening section, and I played that at work yesterday - it was nice to listen to something different. When my 18 year old employee walked in the door she said to me, "What radio station is this?(her making this face)" When I told her it was my ipod she said to me, "Why is this on your ipod?" She didn't like it at all:sad2:I told her I was going to burn a CD of it, and secretly put it on her ipod:laughing:

Danauk - What happened to you???
**Have fun at Alton Towers:cool1:Isn't it going to be cold? :cold: Or has it warmed up by you?

geffric - :wave2:

I'm off to eat my grapefruit and get ready for work

Eric flys tonight and arrives 1:30 pm tomorrow.. I know he has had a great time..but gotta get in his room while I can.. tee hee

OK, I'll explain what happend. I apologise as this might be long and might be hard to follow!

After school on Tuesday one of the other teachers and I do after school revision classes for the children who are taking their exams this year. After the class on Tuesday I went in to her room just to see how she had got on and to return some materials I had borrowed from her room. She was on the phone to her dad at the time and she seemed a little upset so once she was off the phone I went to check that she was OK. Her dad was asking her to help out with a family crisis that had happened that day. Her uncle (her dads brother) is mentally disabled and lived with a family as part of a shared lives scheme. In this scheme families are paid by social services to have mentally disabled adults living with them and they care for them and share their lives with them. They get $600 a week for this to cover living costs, their time etc. Her uncle had been living with a family for a while and they knew the family had a Kenyan girl also living with them. They had introduced her a few months ago as a family friend who was visiting and staying with them. However on Monday the Kenyan girl had contacted my friends dad to say that she was not a family friend and basically the family had moved out of the house, the woman was still getting the $600 a week but had left the Kenyan girl to care for my friends uncle. However she was not getting any money to do this (the woman was paying wages into this girls bank account one day and removing it all the next.) So basically this girl and my friends uncle were living in a house that had no equipment in it and were living off the money my friends uncle got each week. So my friends dad had to report this to social services. They got in contact with the woman who straight away threw the Kenyan girl out of the house. So now this poor girl literally had no where to live (the woman had made her pack all her belongings into suitcases and bags and had thrown them out of the house.) The girl was over here legally on a working visa but is not a British citizen (she has been here for 4 years, she has no family as they were all killed in a church masacre in Kenya.)

So, as the girl was wondering the streets near our school my friend was asked by her dad to go and find her as he felt responsible for her being made homeless. So I asked my friend if she wanted me to come with her to help her find her. We eventually found her and had to go and help her get her belongings. So we did that (it is very hard to fit 3 adults, 2 childrens car seats, teachers boxes of books, 4 large suitcases and 6 bin liners of clothes and belongings into one car!!) So once we had done this we did not know what to do next, my friends dad wanted to see her but she couldn't really go to any of our houses and she had no where to go. So my friend paid for her to stay the night in a local hotel. Then the next day she had to go to London to the imigration place as her visa was technically not longer valid as she had no employement so she was an illigal imigrant.

But we all felt so bad for her, she could have stayed in the house and not said anything and allowed my friends uncle to be left uncared for, but she choose to do the right thing. My friend contacted out local MP (senator I guess) and told the story and he said he would try to help out. In the mean time we knew she would have to go to London to the imigration cantre and explain her case. She did this any they told her that her visa was no longer valid and they were putting her on the next flight back to Kenya. Luckily as my friends family had contacted the MP and the social worker who was dealing with my friends uncle also tried to help out they managed to stop her from being sent back. The imigration people said that has her visa was valid until June then if she could find employement she could stay. So yesterday she came back to our town to stay with the social worker for a few days. Today we found out that the social worker had managed to find her a job with a Kenyan family who needed a child minder so she will be OK.

I just couldn't believe that some one could treat a fellow human being like that, not caring for someone in need and then conning someone else to do then job for them. Then making them homeless when they had been caught out. Also I could not believe that in our society someones life possessions could be reduced to a few suitcases. When we went to check her in to the hotel my friend told her to take what she needed for a few days and that she would look after the rest of her things for her. So she took a few clothes out of her case and her bible to keep with her along with her passport and documents.

So, long story short after school on Tuesday I popped into my friends room to see if her class had mastered working out the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages and then 30 minutes later I was trying to rescue and help re house a refugee who had been made homeless when she had tried to help someone whose needs she considered greater than hers. Not what you really expect to be doing after the average day teaching 8 year olds I guess!!

I hope you all managed to follow that story!! I am still counting my bessings for my family, friends and the belongings I have and the roof over my head.

I am glad she is okay.. but what about the woman that started this mess and still gets the money?? Is she going to court?

Morning..

Eric comes home today!! Geoff and Scott are going to an Eagle project this morning.. gotta walk the dog.

Aparently the woman was very clever, she made it look like the Kenyan girl was being paid and then she was taking money back off her for rent, household bills etc. Aparently as they woman never told anyone she had moved out of the house it was still her home residence so on paper she was still living there, although she was quite clearly not. Social services just said they would not use her again on the future. I can't believe she can get away with what she did, but it looks like she might.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Today it is really sunny here in the middle of England but it is still really cold. Yesterday we went to Alton Towers to renew our AP's. It was the 1st day of the season and got quite crowded, but we got there early, did the rides we wanted to before the crowds hit and then we spent some time in the gardens trying out the new camera lens I bought last week.
Today I have just been doing housework and putting off the school work I need to do (although it is 3:30pm so I can't put off doing it for much longer!!) I have been sorting out my pin collection too. I am doing the dis pin exchange and have bought some pins that the UK disney stores have just started selling, so my pin bags needed re arranging!

we have SNOW!! Lots of wet SNOW!! Yuck!

Then I won't mention that I'm about to go out and have lunch on the patio!:goodvibes

HI TAGLIKINS! I've had my nose burried in a book or two (OK...ELEVEN) over the past couple of weeks, that's why I haven't been around much.

Yesterday, Kevin accidentally put a steak knife in the dishwasher pointed up, and it stabbed the palm of my hand - Ouch!!!! It hurt yesterday, but it hurts alot worse today, and it's in a place that is always going to split open, and it's in a bad place for a band-aide. I'm not to happy about it:sad2:

Spring break is now over, which means Stephanie will not be happy this morning:mad:(her face). She was already starting to complain about going back to school on Saturday:rolleyes: She should be a real joy this morning
