Escape From Craziness Part II to Fireworks, Food and A DVC Tour - A June 2018 Trip Report - Completed 3/30

This has become one of our go to places to eat in MK. This past trip (December) they had a cauliflower Tacos that were soooo good! I hope they are still there next week.

What!!! I never knew that. I hope they are there this summer. DW will love that!!

And this one. Sometimes these are the best moments, the ones that can't be planned at all! And kids love playing in the rain.

I know. Over all of our trips the moments like this are certainly the ones you remember.

Isn't it! Night swimming might be the best time to swim there!

Without a doubt! We love it...well, I love it because we don't have to spend 15 minutes getting all lathered up in sunscreen...but hey, that's not the only reason!

This is a picture to save for when they are older! I love how DS6 is looking in the backround. Show them this when they are older and hate each other! ha!

So true! Ok, I many have to do that tomorrow when they start fighting!

I know! DW and I had a nice laugh about it though!

My girls aren't dying to meet characters but I think they do like it once they are doing it.

That's how DS7 is now. I don't know if he ever asks to meet them, but when we do he is all in on it!

Strange. But at least he made up for it. Your pics make me want to give it a try.

It is very good! Yeah, I think the waiter got confused and probably had a few too many tables. I don't know, but he was super nice and apologetic. Those things happen!

Day 9 - Part 3 - Welcome Home...For the Next 50 Years

After our rides on Soarin’ we headed out of the Land.

We had a fastpass that we were going to, but first a walk through Mexico.

Then we made it to Norway for our Fastpass at Frozen Ever After.

We had a great ride and I went a bit here without taking pictures. The pouch fell off of my lanyard at some point on the ride or getting on/off. The ride people didn’t find it yet and so we went by guest services. After a quick wait they just printed me a new one and we went on our way. I guess this was the quickest way, especially since there wasn’t anything else valuable in the pouch except my AP and TiW card, which they reprinted.

I came back out of guest services to see this:

I guess it was nap time. So, we headed out of the front of the park at 1:30 because we were catching a special ride...to the DVC preview center at Saratoga Springs. It took us a good 15 minutes to find the van that was picking us up. They gave us kind of confusing directions, but eventually we found it.

We have known for a few years DVC was something we wanted, but up until now we were getting to a point financially where we could do it without going into debt. We still weren’t sure going in here if Copper Creek was what we wanted and that was what they were currently selling, but we thought we’d give it a look. We were incentivized to go by a card in our room for a $200 gift card and three FP’s per person. That was pretty good.

Anyways, after talking it over, looking at the models, and remembering how much we loved Wilderness Lodge….

WE BOUGHT A DVC CONTRACT!!

We are super excited about it. They gave us a full contract, plus points for the year that would be ending only a month after this and they let us bank those to the next year, so basically we started with double points!

Also, we got free ice cream after...well, not sure we can call it free anymore!

The boys actually loved the train above the ice cream shop at the DVC center!

We were back at the Yacht Club in our private van by 4:00, so overall the process took about 2 hours and obviously took longer for us than some because we did decide to purchase a contract.

Anyways, we were going to swim, but there was lightning in the area so everyone took a nap but me. I just went for a little walk around the resort while they slept. From the pictures I went over to the Beach Club Marketplace, probably for a snack, before coming back and helping DW decide what the plan was for the rest of the day.

Congratulations on DVC ! I finally tried Garden Grill a couple of trips ago for breakfast ( I had dinner once and was disappointed) and loved it.

Day 9 - Part 4 - This Has “Meltdown” Written All Over It

Earlier today we had decided to not go to a park this evening and that we would try and eat around the resort. I was able to get a reservation for Beaches and Cream that evening! It would be our first time eating here:

After our rest time we headed over and we had a 10 minute wait or so for a table. While we were waiting it started storming and so the pool got cleared out. While all that was going on DS2 was playing with a car that DS6 had brought from the room to play with. Well, DS2 thought it would be great to throw the car over the fence into the pool area. Only bad part was the pool was now closed. There was a lifeguard waiting by the gate and she indeed confirmed she couldn’t go in to get it since the pool area was closed! DS6 was not happy and you could just see a meltdown about to happen. Here was the car over the fence:

At about this point, when the meltdown was going to head to another level, a hostess from Beaches and Cream noticed DS6 was not happy. Ashley was her name and she tried to go plead with the lifeguard to let her get the toy, but they couldn’t do it, which we understood. Let’s just say I ended up filling out a compliment card for her later that day at the resort. Anyways, once she couldn’t get the car she went back inside and came back with a drink for DS6 and she had put one of those light up ice cubes in it for him. He loved it!!

DS2 got a light up toy too, but it was so nice and thoughtful of her. And...a little later in our meal she brought the car back after they were able to open the pool back up. We all loved our meal here after that!

How cool is this place?

We got the bacon cheese fries as an appetizer. These were really good!!

DW got the grilled cheese and tomato bisque meal and absolutely loved it. This is one of her favorite meals and it did not disappoint her here!

I got the chicken fried steak and it was phenomenal. I’m a connoisseur of chicken fried steak as I get it at a lot of places we go eat, but this one was really good! A great batter and cooked really well!

DW got this sundae and I think DS6 ended up sharing with her:

I got the No Way Jose as I love peanut butter and it was incredible!

I told DW after dessert that we have to come back here again on this trip so I can get that again! Our waitress also offered to take our picture, unfortunately the boys were not interested in looking at the camera!

We couldn’t finish all of the desserts!

We finished dinner at about 6:45 and I took DS6 down to swim a bit.

Unfortunately, we only got to swim for about 15 minutes before weather forced the pool to close again! It was still a fun evening and I had to convince DS6 we could swim again tomorrow! I went back by later in the evening...this place is so picturesque at night!

I also stopped for a few minutes to fill my cup and there was no one at the Ale and Compass Market. But it was time to get off to bed so we were ready for tomorrow!

Day 10 - Part 1 - A Whole Day at Stormalong Bay

Today was a day we had been looking forward to...a morning and afternoon at Stormalong Bay!

Let’s just say we were excited!! Our only plan for this whole day was a dinner reservation at ‘Ohana! One of our favorite places. We were headed to the pool by about 9:15 this morning after eating a couple of ham, egg, & cheese sandwiches from the Ale & Compass Marketplace. They were really good, although I left my phone and camera in the room since we would be at the pool for so long. I didn’t want to get them wet or leave them sitting on a beach chair or anything. We just took DW’s phone to grab a few pictures. So, we got on our way:

We were at the pool by 9:30 and it was awesome! The boys loved the sand bottom area and it was nice because DW and I could sit in chairs and watch them without worrying about them going to the deep end or anything because there is no deep end in that part. They loved playing here! At about noon DS2 was getting hungry so I took him to Beach Club Marketplace to look for a snack and he ended up deciding on one of those little apple sauce packets that come with kids meals. He loves those things. The rest of us didn’t want to fill up with much lunch as we were saving valuable stomach space for ‘Ohana later today!

We checked on DW and DS6 and we decided I would take DS2 inside for a nap before it was time for us to leave to head to dinner later that afternoon. I put him down at about 12:30 and he went to sleep quickly. DW and DS6 got back from swimming at about 1:00. I had promised DS6 I would take him to the arcade this afternoon on our pool day so he reminded me of that, so off we went. He was ready to get to that arcade!

We made it over there by about 1:15 and had a good time flushing money down the toilet...err...I mean playing games!

By 2:00 we had blown through out spending cash for the arcade and headed to find DS6 a snack as he was having trouble waiting until ‘Ohana! So, here is what he picked at Beach Club Marketplace:

Umm...son, you want an entire box of donuts. You do understand we are eating dinner at ‘Ohana, right? I told him that was fine though, but said he could just have one or two right now. He seemed happy with that so we headed back to the Yacht Club.

On our way I texted DW and DS2 was still sleeping so we stopped in the lobby for a few minutes and DS5 enjoyed watching some cartoons while eating his donut.

And I just sat here...does it get any better than this?

We went back to the room at about 2:40 and spent 20 minutes or so getting read to head to dinner. We had an early dinner ADR, 4:10 or something and so our plan was to go do that and then come back and swim for a couple more hours since this was our pool day!

We headed to the bus stop at 3:00 in route to the Poly.

The board read 3:10 that a bus would arrive and one ended up coming at 3:12. We stopped at the Beach Club and were at the Magic Kingdom by 3:30.

DS6 was acting sad because we weren’t going into the Magic Kingdom...he doesn’t fully understand ‘Ohana yet, so we’ll forgive him!

DW grabbed him though and got some pictures before jumping on the monorail!

Day 10 - Part 2 - My Favorite Meal of All Time

We got up to the monorail station at about 3:40 and only waited about 2 minutes before it showed up:

We had a nice and easy ride around on the monorail and it wasn’t too crowded which is always nice.

We arrived here by 3:50:

We stopped for just a couple of minutes in one of our favorite gift shops and found some stuff we liked, especially some new DVC merchandise!

I loved the Rescuer's Down Under show when I was a kid!!

By 4:00 I was checking us in here for our 4:05 reservation.

We waited only about 3-4 minutes with this view!

We were called up and sent to our table at 4:05!!! I was so hungry...which is a great way to show up at ‘Ohana!

Those things are so awesome! I mean all three of those things are some of our favorite items at any Disney restaurant and this time was no different! I’m going to have to continue this in another post because we got so many pictures.

Day 10 - Part 3 - We Had to Be Parents Again

We were still in the middle of our dinner and now the meat was starting to arrive!

27 - CHICKEN!!

And DS6 was still eating noodles...see kid, that’s what I was trying to tell you earlier when you just wanted donuts!

DS6 finally finished and we were all so full at this point.

But....never too full for this stuff:

That bread pudding is so good. I could eat the entire thing by myself! Overall we had another fantastic meal at ‘Ohana and all of the food was so good. The service wasn’t anything special, but they kept our glasses and plates full and we didn’t feel rushed at all, which is sometimes an issue here. We headed back down to the lobby after dinner to look in the shop one more time.

We perused the DVC stuff again and DS2 had fun looking at the Moana stuff.

It was about 5:15 at this point and DS6 really wanted to go swimming and did not like that we were shopping first. He was having a little bit of a bad attitude about it and so DW and I had to become parents again and deal with his little tantrum. We all know it happens and we wish our trips were all perfect, but none of them ever are. We ended up heading to the monorail at 5:20 and were back at the Yacht Club, by way of the Magic Kingdom busses by 6:10.

Of course, knowing he was in trouble, DS6 was being a super sweep brother on our way back! haha

We made it back and we decided DS6 had lost his night of swimming due to his actions and that DW would take DS2 out to the pool for a bit. Unfortunately sometimes you still have to teach your kids lessons at Disney World and this night was one of those. DS6 basically played with some toys in the room until bedtime at about 8:15. DW and DS2 went swimming and for some ice cream before coming back to bed. They all fell asleep by 8:45, including DW, and I went out to grab a little snack before bed. First this gorgeous lobby:

I also walked out by the lake and looked at some of the great nighttime views!

I ended up over at Beach Club Marketplace to try the chocolate caramel cheesecake.

It was really good! I would definitely eat it again, but at this point it was time for bed. I think I made it until about 9:30, but that was it! This was a great rest day though and we even made it through our major temper tantrum of the trip from DS6, or so we hoped! Stay tuned to see what the next day would hold.

Day 11 - Part 1 - Animal Kingdom EMH are the Best

It was time for another great Disney day and this one would be an early one as we were hitting EMH at Animal Kingdom. Only thing was they were doing 8 AM openings at this point at this park, so that meant getting out of the room by 7:30 was our goal. We made it out on time, filled up the water bottle, and settled in at the bus stop at 7:32. DS2 and I were ready!

We only waited about 4 minutes for a bus and we pulled into Animal Kingdom at 7:56. We made it here shortly thereafter and entered the gate at 8:02.

We were just a couple of minutes after 8:00, but that was by design. We wanted to miss the craziness of rope drop because we weren’t going to Pandora this morning as we had Flight of Passage FP’s later on in the day. What a great walk this is down towards the tree of life!

We then swung around to the right to head to our first ride of the day. Look how non-existent the crowds are over here. Of course people were pouring into Pandora! We ended up loving morning EMH here since we weren't doing Flight of Passage!

DS6 and I ended up getting two rides on Everest, both with less than a five minute wait! How awesome!

After that DW and DS6 went on at 8:25 and it took them only about 10 minutes total. While they were riding DS2 and I headed over here:

We were going to take a quick spin on the dinosaur themed Dumbo ride while we waited on DW and DS6. I did manage to coax him into putting his hands up!

DW and DS6 met up with us in Dinoland at about 8:45 and next on the agenda was for me and DS6 to get on this torture device...I mean, Primeval Whirl!

Day 11 - Part 2 - NOOOOO...Well Son, That was an Impressive Throw!

We left off with DS6 and I about to take a “spin” on Primeval Whirl! Hopefully we make it!! While we did that DW and DS2 took another ride on Triceratop Spin.

It was about 8:45 at this point and DS6 was ready for his next coaster of the day:

We had an enjoyable ride...despite getting spun around in circles at a million miles per hour. Next we headed over to ride on Dinosaur.

DW and DS2 played in this area while DS6 and I rode.

DW doesn’t do Dinosaur, but I enjoy it and DS6 really likes it, so we always make it a point to get over here at least once. It was a fun ride and afterwards DS6 had a reward built up because he had been good and he wanted to pick out a new dinosaur. I think we ended up getting smaller (a.k.a. cheaper) ones than the one in this picture!

So we let him pick something out before heading off to see what else we could do. We found some big dinos on the way that DS6 wanted to look at!

And of course he wanted to play with his new toys and act out what he saw happening on this sign:

We eventually made it back to DW and DS2 and we had gotten him a little toy as well for about $5.

We were heading back to ride Kali River Rapids with a FP, but not before a stop in the store over by Chester and Hester’s. I’ve never noticed all of the detail hanging from the ceiling here:

We headed back to Asia from here and DW and DS6 were going to take the first ride on Kali and then DS6 and I would go back through with a child swap pass.

I did what any non-riding parent would do, go up to the bridge to wait on DW and DS6 to come by so I could get their picture. DS2, being the active little boy he is wanted out of the stroller to run around. I told him now, like a good parent, because I didn’t want him running around on a bridge and falling over the side into the rapids. I know that probably wasn’t going to happen, but just go with it. I told him no and he didn’t like that answer very much. So...what does he do...I see him rare back like he is going to throw the new dinosaur toy over the side of the bridge into the river. I yell, “Noooooo” and about then he releases the toy and throws it from inside the stroller, over the side of the bridge and into the water at Kali River Rapids. I say to him as if talking to a 15 year old, “Well son, I guess your dinosaur is gone...but that was a super impressive throw!” I mean to get it out of the stroller and up over the side of the bridge...impressive! Of course he immediately burst into tears because his toy was gone...I mean what did you expect son? Anyways, it was down their somewhere, probably never to be found again!

After a few minutes we did indeed spot DW and DS6 coming our way on Kali and they appeared to be having a fun ride!

Day 11 - Part 3 - That Is a Good Hot Dog

After riding Kali and losing a new toy we headed back towards Africa for our next FP at Kilimanjaro Safari. We got back there at about 10:10 and it did take about 15 minutes to get through the FP line, but we were onboard by 10:25. I’m just going to insert some safari pictures here. I know we’ve all seen these numerous times, but hey, I’ve got them so I’ll put them here:

DS7 needed a little shopping after our safari.

After the ride we headed over to have lunch at Satu’li Canteen in Pandora.

What a great place this is! DW loves the chicken bowl with the creamy herb sweet potatoes. It is good, but I also think she likes it because it is just different from what you get most places! The sweet potatoes as the base was awesome she said.

I wanted to try the Cheeseburger pods for my meal. They were tasty, but I had a little problem that they were not served very hot. I could barely even say they were lukewarm. We did do mobile order so that might have affected, but I would still expect our food to be hot. Other than that the flavors were pretty good and the chips they make are excellent.

We got the wrapped hot dogs for the boys and they loved them! I tried a bite of DS3’s when we finished and it was actually pretty good. The bread wrapped around them was very tasty.

Overall this is a great meal. I like how they control the seating area indoors so you have to order food before you can go in. It makes it so much easier and more pleasant to find a seat as opposed to a place like Pecos Bills or Cosmic Rays. With lunch over, what would we do next? We had a FP left and we were in Pandora, so I’ll let you take a guess.

Congrats on being DVC owners!!! My sister and cousin are both DVC owners at AKL... When they have points they can't use, instead of banking them, they rent them to me and I get to pretend I'm DVC too...

Ohana bread pudding... OMG!!! Did you know you can go to the bar right next to Ohana and you can order just the bread pudding??? We do that every trip... Life is short, eat dessert first!!!

Man, I was behind but all caught up.

Oh that is so sad. That car is just sitting there taunting you!

At about this point, when the meltdown was going to head to another level, a hostess from Beaches and Cream noticed DS6 was not happy. Ashley was her name and she tried to go plead with the lifeguard to let her get the toy, but they couldn’t do it, which we understood. Let’s just say I ended up filling out a compliment card for her later that day at the resort. Anyways, once she couldn’t get the car she went back inside and came back with a drink for DS6 and she had put one of those light up ice cubes in it for him. He loved it!!

The lifeguards at Disney are rule followers for sure!

And...a little later in our meal she brought the car back after they were able to open the pool back up. We all loved our meal here after that!

What a great CM!!!

DW got the grilled cheese and tomato bisque meal and absolutely loved it. This is one of her favorite meals and it did not disappoint her here!

Morgan and Gwen have ordered this the last 2 times and split it. It works out perfectly.

I also stopped for a few minutes to fill my cup and there was no one at the Ale and Compass Market. But it was time to get off to bed so we were ready for tomorrow!

I don't know why they have all of that seating, there is barely anything to order to eat here.

Those things are so awesome! I mean all three of those things are some of our favorite items at any Disney restaurant and this time was no different! I’m going to have to continue this in another post because we got so many pictures.

I literally go just for this platter! Sooooo good.

yell, “Noooooo” and about then he releases the toy and throws it from inside the stroller, over the side of the bridge and into the water at Kali River Rapids. I say to him as if talking to a 15 year old, “Well son, I guess your dinosaur is gone...but that was a super impressive throw!” I mean to get it out of the stroller and up over the side of the bridge...impressive! Of course he immediately burst into tears because his toy was gone...I mean what did you expect son? Anyways, it was down their somewhere, probably never to be found again!

Oh man! That is quiet the story! Kids...

Congrats on being DVC owners!!! My sister and cousin are both DVC owners at AKL... When they have points they can't use, instead of banking them, they rent them to me and I get to pretend I'm DVC too...

Yes! We are so excited. It was just the right time for us since we love Wilderness Lodge so much!

What?????? How did I not know this??? On second thought it may be a good thing because I would have to buy DVC at the Polynesian! I may be stopping there every day of our trips now!

Yes! Glad to read about you guys having a great trip, although a little sad it's the last one for a bit!! You'll find other things to enjoy though! I can't wait to read about it.

I joked that if I'd have had my golf bag I could have gotten it with my driver. Although probably not the best idea either to stick a big long metal stick out there in that weather!

I can definitely see how that would be great for kids! We may have to try that. I made a reservation again for this summer. I didn't originally have it down, but after writing this update on our trip report I went back and worked it in! haha

I know. There are like two sandwich options and some pastry's. We stayed there for eight nights and I think I only sat here once doing a little work on my computer after everyone had gone to bed. Usually I went out and sat in that great lobby!

I'm pretty much the same way. I also love the shrimp. I mean the chicken and steak are definitely good and I will eat some, but if they just brought us this platter and had the shrimp I would certainly still go to 'Ohana. Well...and of course the bread pudding!

Day 11 - Part 4 - Best Disney Shirt Ever

After a great lunch at Satu’li we had one FP left for the day and it required us to travel up into the floating mountains.

DW and DS6 went first at about 11:35. DS2 and I meandered around Pandora a bit and spent a little time in the exit shop for Flight of Passage.

They finished their ride at 12:05 and DS6 and I went back in with the child swap pass.

We had another great ride. DS6 really loves “the dragon ride”. I’ve missed this one over the last couple of years and can’t wait to go again this summer. We got out of the ride at about 12:40 and DS2 had decided it was nap time!

We headed towards the front of the park at 12:45 so we could go enjoy some more time at Stormalong Bay, but not without a little shopping first. And...we found the best Disney shirt ever. This one would be perfect for DS2 and so true! We did end up getting it for him!

We ended up at the bos stop at 1:10 and a bus was there waiting so we didn’t have to wait at all.

Yes, the boys somehow moved over by me during the ride...not sure how that happened! And yes, DW and I sometimes sit apart on the bus. Not because we don't like each other though! Probably because the boys like to sit at the back for some reason and I usually sit somewhere that is a little easier to sit with the big double stroller.

Before long we were back here at the Yacht Club and ready to have a little more resort time! DS6 and I were headed off to the pool!
