Errie Site at OKW - K-9 Dogs, security....

This AM walked to pool and saw quite a mass of security at the Buildings near Penusular Bus Stop. There were at least six K-9 Dogs searching around the outside of building 23-26. Many, many security vehicles etc. Not sure what it was. We took the first boat to Downtown Disney and helicopters were going round and round, they passed us six times during that short ride. I think security is reacting to everything and it makes us feel safe. Everyyhng seems back to normal here. It was unsettling to see this activity at OKW. Maybe a maid found something in a room. Who knows, The crowds and traffic are really something. This town is sold out for the holiday.

No matter what they were there for, I bet you "WON'T" see anything in the local paper(Orlando Sentinel)..............nothing bad is suppose to happen in WDW.

Well, I'm glad to see they are on their tip-e-toes when it comes to security!
I would rather have an over reaction, than an under reaction.

Someone reported a similar incident a few months ago. It may be security responding to a report or it may be part of preparations for a "special guest" who was staying or visiting at OKW.

I work for a Fire Dept and knowing what goes on in my own community and knowing what is happening in the world today you can expect to see a lot of public safety agencies out investigating anything and everything. Many, Many US Communities have had countless, Anthrax, Bomb and other threats from idiots, pranksters and mentally unstable people since 9/11. Fortunately they almost always prove to be false calls with no basis. Public safety agencies have to investigate everything that is reported these days. Always be cautious but always remember just because you see activity does not mean an actual emergency has already ocurred it may be an investigation being conducted as a precaution.

could you tell where the dogs looking for people or drugs or explosives?

I can see making sure that it is safe before a VIP comes - but in those cases I just can't see using dogs????

Spiceycat, they use dogs all the time to secure areas for VIPs. I used to walk by the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC on my way to work and every September when all the dignitaries from around the world would come to attend the UN Sessions the place would be crawling with the dogs. I think they use them to "sweep" for explosives and to check-out the autos as well. Same thing when the President would come to the Waldorf -- lots of Secret Service, police and nice doggies.

Actually, I read on www.thesmokinggun.com today that security cameras at the OKW spotted a short, balding, caucasian man carrying a tall, white, bundled-looking stack of an unknown origin. They finally tracked him down.

The gentleman from Nikalona, Neb. was apprehended and found in the possession of 18 pool towels. Upon further search of his room, the Police search dogs were able to locate 75 Equal packets, 123 mixed salt-n-pepepr packets and 9 souvenier mugs from WDW. (Sidenote: There was no visible dating on the mugs, but through carbon dating and DNA they were traced back to their original date of sale in 1998.)

When asked about the crime, he began muttering something about not wanting to pay trash and towel for his 17 family members staying in Room #1648, a designated studio lock-off, and begged police to take him to jail so he could have less roommates and more privacy.

My son works at the Magic Kingdom. He called us last night and told us that Jimmy Carter was there and rode Splash Mountain (where my son works).

Perhaps he was staying at OKW?
