Ernesto Is Getting More Interesting...

Holly....where is Orlampo Florida?

:) Annegal, Orlampa is a joke. I live in Auburndale, Florida, which is exactly half-way between Orlando and Tampa (off I4). On I-4 at the Auburndale Exit, someone has set up "fake" oil rigs for a fake town called "Orlampa." (Orlando and Tampa mixed together)

:sunny:

I love Magnolia Springs......we pass through going to Gulf Shores. It is a small town where everybody knows your name.....well kinda everybody. I have relatives in Bon Secor which is stone throw from Magnolia Springs.

Holly,

I'm with you on the hurricane kit-need to get that stuff together, just in case. Freezer's got a lot of grillable stuff, too. ;)

Anne, Orlampa is the area between Orlando and Tampa. Both cities are experiencing tons of growth and are spreading towards each other. I'm on the west side, Holly's on the east side of Orlampa!

Hi Suzanne!

We're planning this week's meals based on the non-grillables. We can save the grill stuff to eat if the power goes out. It's too early to tell with Ernesto, but I don't want to be caught off-guard, and I certainly don't any of my delicious frozen meals to go bad! By the way, my chocolate croissants are baking and almost done! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the explanations on Orlampa. BTW, this area is a GREAT place to live for anyone thinking about moving to Florida!

This morning they have Ernesto going more to the East. From Alabama to all of Florida.
Whew for LA and MS ....((Hugs)) for all of you in his path.

This time of year we keep frozen stuff to a minimum as well as refrigerator foods. DW picked up a couple of Heater Meals that are self heating and not too bad tasting. She will be picking up some more.

I always get a little chuckle when individuals start getting upset with the projected path reports at 6 and 7 days out. Look at the latest reports as of this AM and those areas that 2 days ago had concerns are not even within the cone now. One of the projections even have Ernesto making a Charley maneuver and heading over our house.

Funniy thing is that last year we had a trip to FW when Wilma came through and now we will be back to FW later this week, maybe in time for Ernesto.

Good luck all.

We lived on both for about 3-4 weeks after Katrina last year and the Heater Meals are far superior. The raisins in them are the biggest, plumpest, juciest raisins I have ever had! I'm not a big raisin fan because usually they are just dried up and hard, but these were great! Wish I could find some of the raisin packs.

Prayers for all in Ernesto's path.

P.S. Wonder how WDW will fare? Path now has Tropical storm force winds over Orlando, of course, that could change

I would bet that storm related preparations will be activated now that the path shows a greater chance of hitting us.

When we left FW on a Sunday morning last year they were having everyone evacuate. We will see what happens this time since the weekend looks like zero hour right now.

At least our refrigerator in the RV will be nice and cold and the fridge at home will be nice and empty.

Here's praying for who ever's area it is heading to.

I was telling DS10 last night, when it was looking like still the LA/TX area, that we will still be in the cone. He said, "Mom, I know it's going to shift and come to Florida". I think he meant more towards us (we're in Palm Beach County on the east coast), but he was right.

Those in the Gulf seem the hardest for them to predict where it will go (Wilma being one of the few I think they got right), so we will be watching it even closer now.

We have plans for today which we will keep, but looks like yard work tomorrow, and if it shifts anymore east-shutters late Tuesday and Wednesday. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Not sure when I'll re-stock the few hurricance supplies.

Good luck everyone-we are praying for us all.

Interesting... maybe for you. Scary with the possibility of horror for us. Too many of us in trailers. Homes just being repaired. Some of us just moving back into our homes. We're just getting back on our feet. Nuf said.

I agree with you, and I live not far from where Charley, Frances, and Jeanne passed through central Florida.

There is nothing "interesting" about sitting in your master bedroom closet with your family (which includes your 9 month old DD) and hearing the winds from Charley causing your garage door to creak and moan, praying that it holds up. Then, when Frances and Jeanne came through a few weeks later, hoping that your boarded up windows are able to withstand the winds. :sad2:

I used to think hurricanes were neat, since we used to only get a lot of rain. After getting hit with 3 within a few weeks, it's not so neat.

Look at the latest reports as of this AM and those areas that 2 days ago had concerns are not even within the cone now. One of the projections even have Ernesto making a Charley maneuver and heading posted by John VN........sorry I don't know how to paste quotes in! I NEVER give a little chuckle when people get a little upset with the projected paths 6-7 days out.......I would much rather start preparing and have stuff and not need it! After watching this mornings news I went out and picked up 4 more bags of ice, 5 more cases of water and topped off the tank along with the gas cans.....so chuckle all you want, I do not want to be one of the ones standing outside my door wondering where the government is with my water and food. Storms can change at any time and I will rest easy and be thankful if it turns away from me, no one can predict exactly until it is on your doorstep. I learned that with Charlie, it was supposed to be a direct hit here in Tampa, thankfully it was not, but the people further south and the Orlando are had little or no advance warning that it was coming their way.........so anytime there is a hurricane brewing "close" I will prepare and became concerned!

Exactly.

Better to be safe than sorry. I have yet to be sorry after Wilma, Jeanne or Frances (food and water wise) for our family. But I felt bad for some neighbors who thought Wilma wouldn't do anything.

Me and a few neighbors were getting those "looks" from neighbors like we were crazy for putting up shutters, and carrying in bags full of canned products.

I lost a window, but that was nothing compared to the folks who did nothing. And while we were being invented with canned foods and cooking them on the grill, they were hunting at stores for a can of Chef Boy R Dee.

I did do a run for ice and water after the storm at a dist. center. I kept one bag of ice, gave the other to my sister.

The water I gave to different neighbors. They didn't give me any "looks" when they were getting water from me.

Here in Miami, and I see a few clouds starting to form, but nothng to worry about. I haven't really listened to the weather too much, did see the "cone" and saw it was skimming the Keys and South Dade last night so maybe we won't get it that much. :confused3

glad you get a chuckle.

Watching, waiting and worrying a bit here in Sarasota.

Regardless of where it ends up.... it will put many in harm's way. I can't imagine living with this type of "unknown" but those who do have my respect for their courage!

Considering the path of hurricane prediction is still not a perfect science. Some of us in the state of Florida, tend to go into worry/panic mode. There are so many variables that deal with the path of a storm. Years ago, Hurricane Hugo was headed straight for Jacksonville. Then a pressure system came out of nowhere and sent him to Charleston. Considering one the paths shows him passing either over us or just to the south of us, I will probably be a wee bit nervous. So please don't chuckle at those of us who are worried.

Chuckle? Believe me, I would have said the same thing one year ago today, but Katrina has forever silenced my chuckles. We thought hurricanes were annoying and disruptive, but we were always okay. We had to repair and clean up, wait for our electricity to come back on, and make up some school days. We will never again take such a light attitude!

Oh and, by the way, look up (Google) Hurricane Elena 1985 for a real scream.

Thank you! We need as many prayers as possible! At least we have the technology that gives us enough warning to try to evacuate. Continue to pray for those without the means to evacuate. So many people believe that you can just jump in a car and go, but that's simply not true for so many. Some folks can't depend on a car that's prone to overheating (it may be the only car they've got) and then afford the cost of a motel (assuming they can find one). Evacuation is much more complex than people believe, but we DO have warning. We'll hope people heed those warnings however difficult it may be.
