I am in the market for an Ereader and just wanted some feed back from others before I purchase. I don't know much about any of the brands. Anyone have a particular brand they like? Why do you like it? TTA

When they came out with the free Kindle app for the iPhone and iPod touch, I bought an iPod touch. Much cheaper (well...at the time, anyway...e-readers have dropped in price quite a bit lately) and it was backlit. A lot of people don't want that, and prefer the e-ink type of displays, but I like to read in bed and HATE messing with booklights, so it was perfect for me.

Well, I can't give you an opinion yet but give me a week. I snagged a Kindle this morning on Woot. I've been researching ereaders for a while but the price ($149) helped me decide!

I have the SOny ereader and I absolutely love it!!! My library participates in the ereader program but I have yet to set that up, will soon. Books download in a snap, the selection is great, always a few good books on clearance or a super sale (so like $1.99) . No complaints at all! My friend just got the Nook from Barnes and Noble and I much prefer the Sony. The size of it is perfect, small enough to read in bed but you can enlarge the text a LOT! I am addicted to mine

First ask yourself a couple of questions

1. How do you want to buy your books? Purchase on your computer and transfer over via a cable? Connect to a router (like a home wireless) and download? Or ... are you interested in 3G where you can shop anywhere you can get a cell connection?

2. What kind of books do you buy? Mostly current release bestsellers? A specialized genre? Look at the various bookstore and see who has the best prices for what you buy. Do you like to have the ability to pre-order new releases and just have them automatically sent to your device on release day?

3. What size do you prefer? 5", 6", or 8 to 10"?

4. Is an eInk screen important or are you okay with reading off an LCD?

5. Is a Public Library download service like Overdrive something you are interested in?

6. Do you have other types of files that you'll want to use (like PDF)

7. Are you interested in an integrated bookstore/online experience?

Then after you consider all that go to MobileRead.com and start reading about the different devices and price ranges in the "Which Should I Buy" forum.

But, I picked up a Nook about 2 weeks ago and love it. I did research vs the Kindle and I went with the Nook

1. Ability to lend books to others
2. Ability to get library books
3. Touch screen on bottom for much better control of info
4. Android based OS, so more flexiblity for future growth
5. Ability to put on my own screensaver, wallpaper etc. Small thing, I know

Overall they are both solid choices. I find the e-ink and these readers (sony, nook, kindle etc) a huge leap over using the apps on say a laptop or phone. The e-ink makes reading outside or direct light super easy, vs the lcd that gets washed out

I just got the Nook and am in love. The free library books is what sold me. I never buy books, always use the library. I was able to get 4 books I'd been waiting months for at the library instantly on the Nook.

The price seems fair for what you get. I didn't bother getting the 3g one, wifi is plenty and I only plan to use it as an ereader. I can only see out of one eye and was limited by the large print selection at the library. I can read small print, it's just harder. The Nook allows me to make the font as large as I need.

I like how you can use the touchscreen to turn pages, much easier than using the buttons. I like that you can use it in bright sunlight. It's lightweight. No negatives so far.

All the ereaders sounded good, it's just the library thing that convinced me on the Nook

I suggest trying one for a while before buying a case. I bought a silicone grippy thing that I'm bringing back, collects dust and dog hair like crazy and feels awful. Some peole like a case that makes it like you're reading a book, you keep the ereader in it while you read. I prefer reading the Nook "naked", esp in bed, so I'm getting a protective pouch type case for when I take it out and about.

Yeah, I got the sleeve that you put it in that is hard sided and use that for lugging it around (lugging is relative, as it is very light). I like the feel of the nook as is without any case. The side grips feel great.

I've had my nook for about three weeks and I love it. I was one of those people that swore up and down I would never ever buy an ereader.

I love mine!!

If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to try and answer them. I'm still learning myself.

I have the Nook and love, love, love it.

I went with the Nook for a bunch of reasons, not least of which is proprietary issues with the Kindle, the ability to change the battery myself and the ability to expand the memory. Which given that most of them hold 1,000+ books may not sound like a big deal, but given I read at least a book a day for me it was.

There is definitely, the try it before you buy it factor. I was going to buy the Sony but when I looked and held and manipulated the Sony vs the Nook I much preferred the Nook.

I would highly, highly recommend getting a good solid case and keeping it in it all the time. Normally, I'm not much of a put things in cases person, but with the e-reader I'm so, so, so glad I invested in a good case. I bought a cover from Oberon designs and it was the best $80 I ever spent, especially when I dropped my Nook and the case protected it from a 4 foot fall. Not a scratch, dent or crack

I'll second the nook, got it for Father's day and love it. Besides buying from B&N, I can get books in ePub format from the library (using Adobe Digital Editions)

I haven't tried books that are free from other sites, but I have bought books from other sites and for the most part they work fine. You just download them to your computer then sideload them onto the Nook. It's very easy. Every so often I have one that will send my nook all wonky and I have to run it thru calibre to fix the meta-details. Some of the pdf documents are a little weird for reading styles (will split after each paragraph or page break in the middle of a page) but the epub documents have been great.

I have the Sony Pocket ereader and really like it. What sold me on it was the size (small) and the ability to borrow books from the library.

My library has a really good selection of ebooks and its getting better all the time. There is also the Free Libraray of Philadelphia and the DC Public Library, both of which offer non-resident cards for a small fee. They have a great selection of books.

I have a nook and am totally in love with it. As for public domain books, my first stop is usually Feedbooks. They've been the ones I've had the most luck looking nice on the nook. My second stop, if Feedbooks doesn't have what I'm looking for, is Project Gutenberg.

I got a Nook for my bday in May. I love love love it!!!!!!!!!!!! DBF gave it to me along with a great case that's hard sided. It has a slot in the front for a photo and it looks like a journal with the Nook inside it. He also bought me a small clip light which is great for reading in the dark, not that I do that often but when we were driving home from Vegas we took the long way thru Yosemite and stayed so long it was dark on the way. Once we got out of the winding roads I pulled out my Nook and started reading it. I love the Nook because it's bigger then the Touch (we have 2 iTouches here) and it's easy to read. You can change your font style and size, you can put books or music on an SD card and plug it into the Nook and listen to music through the Nook. I haven't checked my library to see if I can get books through them yet but that would be too cool. I've also got a B&N really close to home so I can go there and read for free while the girls are on vacation. I'm picturing myself hitting Chipotle for lunch and then walking next door to B&N for some free reading.
