My friend just sent me a text from AK saying that her mom had "erased all the vacation pics" from the digital camera. I called her and told her that I thought there was a way to get them back. Can anyone tell me how? :confused3

Thanks!

Here's one good program....

She would just need to download the program to her computer and use it when she gets home. She should not use the memory card until then.

Hope she can get them back. It's so disheartening to lose pics!

here's the one that i use: photo rescue . it has a demo mode that shows thumbnails of the photos that can be rescued before you have to pay $29 or whatever for the software.

the chance of recovery depends on whether the original photos have been overwritten on the card. some cameras blank out the space where the photo used to be and some don't. so it is a crapshoot. and definitely don't use the card!

Any "unerase" program should do the trick - as long as nothing has been overwritten.

As far as your computer is concerned, your memory card (whether attached via a memory card reader or the camera via USB or however) is just a "removable drive", like a big floppy disk, and any tools to fix those should work on memory cards.

I'd be wondering, though, what was really meant by "erased all the pictures" - surely they didn't go in intentionally and delete them all one by one?

If they accidentally reformatted the card, then a good recovery tool could still get the pics back, but a simple unerase program might not be able to.

I sure hope not! If its like my camera, it gives you an option to "delete all photos" and if you hit YES, then it deletes all the pics on the card. I assume that's what happened...just an accident.

Thank you all for the help! She gets back today, so I'll let her know!

I used Image Recall 3. It was great!!! More than 90% of my photos were restored.

I bought software, from StompSoft I think, that recovers deleted files. Works like a charm.....I got to test it for the first time earlier this month when ds hit delete all on my camera and dumped 200 pics.
