Epicuriouser & Curiouser: A Dining Review ~ 10/19-10/28/07

I would LOVE to visit during F&WF... just that is during my termtime - do you think my students would miss me

Is it sad that when we get married at WDW, I secretly want our wedding start of November so we can go to the F&WF :rotfl:

Great report though :)

Edited to add: I think Day 4 of your trip is October 22nd, no? If that's the case it's a Monday and had my DH not been a sickie we might have actually seen the two of you at CA Grill because we had a ressie there that night.

In retrospect it's probably better that we didn't go because he might have been contagious and because meeting us in person is far less interesting than meeting us on-line. :rotfl2:

& he WAS contagious...they would have remembered you for life!!! :lmao: (and documented it in this report...) :rolleyes1

Weather update: We have about an inch on the ground right now. I am in Holly Springs, but it is suppose to get icy tomorrow.

Being from Jersey, it still amazes me that 2-3 inches here is like Jersey people react if there is 12-15 in. :-)

Loving your reviews. Say hi to Mickey!!

Sorry, I've been gone so long! I haven't forgotten about you. It has just taken me a couple of weeks to get back into the swing of things.

Our January trip to the World was a comedy of errors. Pop was a harsh reality after our gorgeous stay at AKL, and the parks were seriously packed every single day! To make matters worse, we both had bad chest colds for much of the time. But we soldiered on, enjoyed the parks in a cough syrup daze, and had a great time! The dining was fab as usual. We were even granted several wishes! :wizard: We were given a free bag of Kenyan coffee at AKL. We were Soarin’ family of the day. We were seated front and center for an amazing fireworks view at Cali Grill. And best of all, we got dream fast passes! I was a staunch poo-pooer of YoMD, but in the immortal words of the Monkey’s, “Now I’m a believer.”

Thanks for all your well-wishes. I will get back on this dining report stat. (I may even add some food pics from last month, if you want…)

:yay: :yay: :yay: I'm so glad you're back!!!!! Can't wait to hear all about the trip and you sure did have some magic, didn't you? Can't wait to see the pics and read all about your dining adventures!!!!:goodvibes

Have I been living under a rock for the past month? How in the world did I miss your review thread? Well I just read the entire thing and now I'm hungry and cranky because we have lame crapola food in the house right now. Curse you food porn. *punches fist into air*:rotfl:

Anywho, I loved your reviews and your witty commentary. The pics were great, even the frightening one of the deep fried side of whale that they serve at the R&C.

Ahhh. It's nice to be missed!

I've got to catch up on your food trippee, too. Looks like you may have finished it even! :thumbsup2

If it's any consolation, we just had the post-Disney poor man's feast for dinner - raman noodles and grilled cheese sandwiches. :sad2: Now I'm shaking my fist at my own food review!

:lmao: Frightening and delicious! Thanks for reading!

Glad to see that you are back and ready to share the food love with us again! And it sounds like you had a great trip despite being under the weather; I'm looking forward to reading all about it. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: OOH, the raman noodles reminds me of a relatively cheap Thai inspired meal I like to make. Since you mentioned that you and GF like to cook this may be good for you two. It's simple and you can throw whatever you like in. If you are interested let me know. Dang, I'm getting a craving again!:rotfl:

LOVING your report ... I got halfway through and duty called (nope, not "doodie", but rather the necessity of caring for my hungry offspring). I was hooked when drinks tasted like "vacation" and you were gettin' pimped out Lobster ... Brilliant!! :worship:

So glad that you're back! Can't wait to read about your dining experiences and see your pics.:yay:

I know you are probably wicked busy catching up with everything but I'm handing you a glass (or a bottle if need be) of champers and tying you to your computer so I can get a little more food porn from ya!:lmao: My poor husband has been wondering what I'm ooohhhing and ahhhing about whilst at the computer and just has to keep checking to see that I'm really looking at lovely pics of food! :rotfl2:
I'm so glad to see that you have alcohol sprinkled thru out your trip! A girl after my own heart. While planning our upcoming trip Hubs said "make sure you figure in daily booze money!!" What a guy!
Subscribing and drooling at the same time. If I get electrocuted it's all your fault! :rotfl:
PS..do I see in your sig that you are going back to the World in 14 months??? Well done!:thumbsup2

I've really enjoyed reading your review.....and I love the pictures!!

To the PP that offered a recipe for ramen noodles with a Thai twist, I would love to see it!

DGF campaigned hard for dinner at Bistro de Paris. Believe me, she can be downright Napoleonic when she wants to be. I was hesitant because although I love French cheese and French bread and French pastries and other carby contributions to cuisine made by the French, I’m not much for meat Jell-O or buttered garden animals. :crazy2: I was also unconvinced that we belonged upstairs at the fancy-pants French restaurant, when Chefs de France seemed good enough for us proletariats.

Why I felt intimidated by the waiters in monkey suits? :groom: I don’t know because once we were seated at a table by the window with a view of the lake and the France Pavilion below, I felt quite at ease. This is a very romantic restaurant, and the service is excellent.

To drink, we both began with a favorite champagne cocktail of ours, Kir Royale, which is bubbly with a little current liquor added to sweeten it up. A girl came around with a basket of bread and offered us some mini-baguettes, and then we ordered appetizers.

I had the Wild Smoked Salmon Dome with blue crab, lemon grass vinaigrette, and curry biscuits.

I love smoked salmon, so this dish was a hit with me. The domes were mounds of crab covered with smoked salmon. It was very good with the vinaigrette, which was more balsamic than lemongrass, in my opinion. I also liked the sprinkling of pine nuts, but the curry biscuits were sort of pointless.

DGF had the Sautéed Tiger Shrimp, with tandoori spices, fennel, and micro greens salad.

She enjoyed the tandoori preparation of the shrimp as well as the little salad that was served in a crunchy cheese shell.

For the main course, we both had the Chicken Breast stuffed with porcini mushrooms and prosciutto, macaroni with black truffle au gratin, and baby onions. Neither of us orders chicken very often at restaurants, but we’re both suckers for the truffles! It was essentially a sliced chicken roulade with a small ramekin of macaroni. Not too bad, and for a smallish looking portion, surprisingly filling. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of this dish. Just about the time we were served our entrees, Illuminations started, and the newlyweds seated at the aisle table next to ours had suddenly joined us at our table for two. No, I don’t mind. Have a bite of my chicken while you’re at it.

We both ordered the chocolate soufflé for dessert. Sorry, no picture. We had to dig in before they fell!

This was a lovely meal. The plating was especially appealing. A great choice for a special occasion. I wouldn’t mind returning to Bistro to try the tasting menu with wine pairing.

Up next: Day 7 ~ Flame Tree Barbecue & Jiko

I'm so glad you're back, your reviews are so entertaining!!!! I can't wait to see what your thoughts are on JIKO and Bistro is definitely on my list. My list for the next trip is unbelievably high-end...it'll take years to save enough for just the food!:lmao:

Thanks, Brenda. We did have fun. If only this ridiculous cold would go away!

I'd love the recipe. :goodvibes I'm always looking for something quick, and we love Thai.

I hope you review your January trip as well!

Great reviews.

Thanks! I did take lots of food pictures in January... I've just got to finish this one first. These reviews take a suprisingly long time to write, but they are a lot of fun, too!

LOVING your report ... I got halfway through and duty called (nope, not "doodie", but rather the necessity of caring for my hungry offspring). I was hooked when drinks tasted like "vacation" and you were gettin' pimped out Lobster ... Brilliant!! :worship:

:lmao: Thanks for reading. It's nice to be gotten, so to speak.

So glad that you're back! Can't wait to read about your dining experiences and see your pics.:yay:

Thanks for sticking with me!

Believe me, I'd love to be tied to my laptop with a bottle of champagne and nothing to do but surf the DIS. If you can swing it, let me know!

I'm so glad to see that you have alcohol sprinkled thru out your trip! A girl after my own heart. While planning our upcoming trip Hubs said "make sure you figure in daily booze money!!" What a guy!

I won't even tell you our alcohol budget for our WDW trips. It's embarrassing and possibly incriminating. ;)

PS..do I see in your sig that you are going back to the World in 14 months??? Well done!:thumbsup2

14 months is a long time to wait, but we've gone so much in the last year, and I really want to stay at the Poly. That means we'll be saving our pennies for a while!

Great report cant wait for the next installment and your January trip!

Thanks for reading and for the nice comments! :)

Glad you've enjoyed it so far! :cutie: I agree bring on the Thai noodles!

I hear ya. I'm thinking DxDP for May '08 (barring more changes by the Disney gods), which would cover all the signature restaurants. But even with the DxDP, we'll have to pay OOP for bluezoo and Shula's (a must do next time). And I'm considering V&A's, which Heather is very jazzed about. How we will afford it all? :confused3 I guess it doesn't hurt to dream!
