Hello all! Welcome to my very first attempt at a PTR here on the DIS!

TRIP DAYS: May 24 - June 2 (2013)

DISNEY DAYS: May 27 - June 1

STAYING AT: Boardwalk Villas!!!!!!

For those of you who haven't met me, I'm Jaimie. I'm a college math professor, and yes I am just as geeky as that sounds. I love trivia, Broadway, movies, literature, and of course I am a crazy Disney-obsessed trip planner.

As you might be able to tell, I haven't quite figured out how to shrink photos on here yet!

As for the other people crazy enough to go on the trip with me, well here are some introductions for you.

First, there's Manda, my DGF:

You might guess from the photos that we've been on a trip to Disney together before. You are a very good guesser! See, that's how we reel people into the trip reports - positive reinforcement! Our last trip together was September of 2011, which was Manda's very first trip to the World! We dressed as Huey, Dewey, and Louie with another friend of ours, and had a great time at MNSSHP.

Next up, we have Ari:

Ari and I were roommates when I first moved to Massachusetts about 8 years ago. One of the main reasons we became roommates was because of our shared love of Disney. Ari participated in the DCP years and years ago and has not been back since! He has been wanting to go back for a long time, and just hasn't gotten around to it. So he is very excited to be returning.

Finally, we have James:

James is Ari's current roommate, and it will be his birthday while we're at Disney! James was last in Disney a few years ago, but has never experienced it through the mind of a psychotic Disney-lover such as myself. I am looking forward to showing James some of the true Disney magic that he has yet to see!

So now that you've met the cast, you can find out what our plans are so far! Well, you can find out shortly! I will post the plans a little later on today, and many questions will be answered... Questions like...

  • Did Jaimie and Manda have their duck bills surgically removed? Or enhanced???
  • What exactly is this Scavenger Hunt they have planned?!?
  • Will Captain Link Hogthrob finally tell Dr. Strangepork the horrible truth about that night with First Mate Piggy?

Stay Tuned to find out!

The Plan So Far!

Friday 5/24 through Sunday 5/26
We'll be driving the whole way! We'll make a couple of stops with family and friends, as well as a special lunch at Outta Philly in Voorhees, New Jersey. Why is it so special, you ask? Well they have the most delicious Philly Cheesesteaks ever! If you live in the Philadelphia area and you've never been there before, GO!::yes::

Monday 5/27
We'll head to Disney from South Carolina around 7 AM and try to get checked in sometime around noon.
We have a lunch ADR for Biergarten where we will start to celebrate James' birthday! This will be my first time at Biergarten and I'm very much looking forward to it!
The rest of the day will likely be spent drinking around the world in Epcot and ending our first day the only way we know how - Illuminations!

Tuesday 5/28
We'll start off the day by heading to rope-drop at Studios.
No plans for lunch yet, but we'll probably do something light, or just grab a cupcake at Starring Rolls.
Once we've had our fill of Studios, we'll start the Scavenger Hunt! I'll eventually post plenty of details on how I'm running it, but for now, just know it's going to require multiple days, otherwise we'll wear ourselves out very quickly!
For dinner we have an ADR at Boma. We've been to Boma before and loved it!
After dinner we'll head to Jellyrolls for some late night sing-along action!

Wednesday 5/29
We may choose to rope-drop at the Magic Kingdom, or if we had a late night at Jellyrolls on Tuesday, we could choose to sleep in before heading over there. Either way, we'll be at the MK long into the afternoon.
We then will probably continue the Scavenger Hunt for a little while before dinner.
Dinner is not yet reserved, but we are thinking of heading to Whispering Canyon. Never been there, but it seems like the perfect place for nutty people like us!
After dinner, we are pretty open. We could spend some time at the Boardwalk, or head back to Epcot, or maybe head to bed a bit early if we decided to rope drop it in the morning!

Thursday 5/30
We'll certainly be starting this day by relaxing. This whole trip we're going to try and keep a less-than-hectic pace, and Thursday morning is certainly a point on my schedule that I have open for a cool down if we need it.
We have a lunch ADR at Le Cellier which I've had before and am super-psyched to head back to again! That mushroom filet has been calling my name for a looooong time!
After lunch we will complete the Scavenger Hunt before heading off to dinner.
For dinner we have a late ADR at OHana. We've never been there before and again, I'm really looking forward to it. At that dinner we will determine who the winners are of the Scavenger Hunt so that prizes and punishments can be handed out for the next day (muhuhuhahahahaha)! It'll be a late dinner, and I really doubt we'll be doing much of anything afterwards.

Friday 5/31
Based on EMH and Gay Days schedules this week, Friday seemed like the best day to head to Animal Kingdom to spend some quality time there. I'm not a big fan of the AK, but Ari worked there during his DCP, so I'm sure he'll want to hang out there for a while.
We have no plans for lunch, so we may very well end up at my old reliable QS lunch spot, Flame Tree Barbecue! Can't go wrong there!
The afternoon is left open for relaxing, or possibly for punishing the losing Scavenger Hunt team. We're still contemplating that one.
For dinner, we'll probably go with Tutto Italia but that isn't a final decision yet either.
I would not be surprised if we returned to Jellyrolls for our final night there!

Saturday, 6/1
Ahhh, the last day is always so difficult. So I always leave it completely open for favorites, and last minute shopping! I can't imagine having plans on the last day. Seems crazy to me!

So those are the plans so far!

Stay tuned, and eventually you just might find answers to questions like:

  • Seriously, what is up with this Scavenger Hunt?
  • How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?
  • How can they possibly survive all that driving without beef jerky?

The Scavenger Hunt!

So let me tell you about the Scavenger Hunt! Keep in mind that I am still working on details of this, and I'm very much appreciative of suggestions from you guys!

Rules and Regulations: There will be 2 teams of 2 players each. For three days (likely 3 hours each day, but this may change), we will separate and try to take as many pictures of items on the Scavenger Hunt list as possible (you cannot get points for any item more than once). Each item on the list will have a point value which will be determined within the next few weeks. The goal is to have the most points by the end of the 3 days. Teams will have a chance to meet up before the trip to discuss possible strategies (though you'll probably find this will be minimal at best). There is no limit as to how many times you can visit each park (we do have park hoppers). The only important thing is that the two teams start in different parks each day, which will be determined by a random drawing. If you want to know why we have to start in different parks, there is a high point bonus if you can snap a picture of the other team at some point without the other team knowing. Stealth mode: activate. :cool2:

Prizes and Punishments: This is something that is definitely in the early discussion stage. As of right now we know the first punishment for the losing team is going to be that the winning team gets to choose what the losing team gets painted on their faces for the final day (or night... we'll see) at WDW. Feel free to chime in if you think you have a good idea here! Just note that we are not going to make the losers pay any money of any kind.

The List! The list is broken down into 5 categories for the moment - the four parks, plus a "general" category in which pictures can come from any park. List items can be added pretty much up until the day we leave for the trip. It should also be noted that I am not including a ridiculous number of ride ones, since those would be extremely time consuming.

  • Riding a ride considered to be a "kids" ride

  • A view of the castle from the top of Splash Mountain

  • A picture of a yeti in the queue of Everest
  • 3 different animals on the tree of life
  • Someone (not necessarily you) soaked from Kalli River Rapids
  • Someone in a safari hat (bonus points if it's not a cast member)
  • 5 different living birds

General (Can be taken anywhere)
  • A Disney tattoo (no, I will not give bonus points if you get one yourself)
  • 3 Hidden Mickeys
  • A child crying (cannot be staged)
  • The signature of a character
  • You getting that signature of the character
  • You and a random stranger (non-cast-member) doing the llama sign in ASL
  • You getting wet from any water ride (must be able to see the ride)

  • A parade (yes, any parade)
  • 3 warning signs you see before you get on a ride
  • A view from the front seat of a ride
  • 3 different boats
  • Cranking a pressed penny machine
  • Dancing in the rain (must be REAL rain)
  • A ride with no more fast passes available for the day
  • An international tour group
  • Cooling off at a cooling station
  • A group of people singing
  • Touching something you're clearly not supposed to touch (not a human)
  • Licking something you're clearly not supposed to lick (or pretending to)
  • Someone wearing a Goofy hat
  • Someone wearing Pluto ears
  • Someone wearing a Goofy hat AND Pluto ears (bonus if it's a stranger)
  • A couple wearing wedding ears (not your team)
  • Socks that don't match (must be a stranger or cast member)
  • Having a conversation with an inanimate object (non-Muppet)
  • Sleeping somewhere inappropriate
  • A picture of you taking a picture of the picture-taking camera on a ride.
  • SUPER BONUS: A picture of the other team without them knowing you're taking a picture of them

So that's it for the moment. Eventually I'll update this list with point values, but for right now I'm more focused on expanding the list. Remember that there is no real limit to how many items can be on the list, as I don't want anyone to be able to get EVERY item on the list.

Suggestions?

The Scavenger Hunt is INCREDIBLE! I'm really jealous that I'm not nearly as creative...This sounds like SO. MUCH. FUN!

following along. Boardwalk is our favorite resort. You will love the convenience to EPCOT WS. The scavenger hunts sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks! I've been trying to get to stay at the Boardwalk for quite some time... WS is my favorite place to be in all of Disney, so it'll be great!

Just a quick update:

My friends decided they really want to do Disney Quest on the trip (the two free tickets that come with the package were too much to pass up, I guess), so the Scavenger Hunt has now become a two day event. Each of the two days we'll allot 4 hours. Trophies came in the mail and as soon as I can, I will post pictures of them. They are pretty awesome!

We also made a lunch reservation for Liberty Tree Tavern after seeing some drool-inducing photos on here of the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. Mmm.

The Scavenger Hunt List is now officially complete, as I promised everyone I'd give them 1 month to strategize before we head out (what do you mean "strategize" isn't a word??? Someone make that a word!!!). This is being cut from an excel file, so if the formatting looks a bit odd, that's why. The numbers on the left are the point values assigned to each item, which are based on amount of time I expect each one to take to complete and also the difficulty. The asterisks imply at least one of the team members has to be in the photo. We are still debating if we should add in one extra "item" which would be for a lot of bonus points - each team would purchase an absolutely ridiculous hat, and we would have to find someone in the parks willing to trade the hat they're wearing for the one we are. It would be interesting, but we'd be investing more money into the trip at that point.

Anyway, here's the final list! Enjoy!
