We got up bright and early Wednesday morning and headed out to Sea World. Our drive over was uneventful and we parked right in front at about 8:30 for a 9am opening time. We did the prerequisite bag check, and then got in line. There was only a few people ahead of us and they seemed to be having trouble with their finger scanner. When it was our turn, we presented our tickets I printed at home, scanned our fingers and we were in. All before the park officially opened!
Our first order of business was to track down a
scooter for me and then to see about the all day dining deal. I was not too sure if the dining would be a deal but with two days, we didnt have to get it for our second day. The way it works is that you pay a set price and wear wristbands. You get unlimited items but can only use it in the restaurants, not in the convenient kiosks/carts. It was nice to think we had some options. If we didnt like the lunch item we chose, we could just get back in line and get something else. My thought was that we would eat all three meals here and then it might be a deal. We shall see!
So scooter and wrist bands done we see Shamu hanging out and we get a quick photo.
Then we have our picture taken in front of the light house.
Please note what we are wearing. Yes. Those are jackets. And the date for these photos? April 6. It was really chilly. Please note my older child and her lack of jacket. She seems to have premature hot flashes and is NEVER cold.
Trip report side note: We went skiing in February. She wore short sleeves.
Okay. Where were we? Oh yes. Shamu. Jackets. Spring in Florida.
After we got a few pictures, we went over to the only restaurant that was serving breakfast. The girls got waffles and bacon. I think I had eggs, bacon and a biscuit. We all got bottled water. And then before we left, we went back through and got more water. Our first stop for the day was not Manta. Much to the girls chagrin. Our first stop was to feed some dolphins.
And to feed dolphins, we each had to purchase fish to feed. I couldnt come through the gates as just a photographer. Twenty-one dollars gone just that quickly. We were first in line and when we were let in, we walked all the way to the end of the rail and were then lectured about the aggressive birds and to try and keep the fish away from them. When we stepped forward to feed the dolphins, the girls were actually quite hesitant. I guess they were so close to those teeth, they just werent too sure about feeding them anymore!
But, they were won over quickly. How could you not be with a face like that?!
And then, this dolphin just --- ummmm --- beached itself right in front of us and demanded some back rubs! It didnt want any fish. Just a good massage.
With dolphins fed. Massaged. And photographed. We moseyed over to see the Manatees.
And then over to see our first show of the day Blue Horizons in the whale and dolphin theatre. The girls really liked the show. I thought it had more emphasis on birds than whales or dolphins. But. It was pretty.
After the show, we checked on the wait for Manta, and the girls decided that it was too long so we went over to the Atlantis ride. Jackpot! Hardly any wait at all. (Probably because it was chilly!) And they rode. And rode. And rode again. Till they were drippy wet.
We grabbed some lunch. Which was not so great. I kept reading here on the DIS boards about how yucky the food is at Sea World. They were not exaggerating! It is yuck. Disney counter service is fine cuisine in comparison. And at this point I knew that I would not do the all day dining again.
We wandered over to see the penguins.
The sea lions. Which were very loud and there was much barking for food.
And then we went to see the Clyde and Seamore show. I really think this is the exact same show. With the exact same jokes. That I saw as a child. I couldnt decide if it made me nostalgic. Or cynical. The girls got a huge kick out of the mime that entertains before the show. And they LOVED the lame puns and silly jokes of the show itself.
We managed to fill the remainder of our afternoon with more rides on Atlantis.
Checking out and most importantly, putting back various stuffed animals.
We finally made our way over to Manta. Which the girls instantly fell in love. I on the other hand, had fun checking out the little aquarium right next to the ride.
We also went to the shark encounter.
And then finally made our way to Shamu stadium for the last show of the day.
