What's the difference between the Fish n Chip served in the Rose and Crown (the Pub side, just the bar) and the Yorkshire County Fish Shoppe? Is one better than the other? Are they the same price? Do you get the same amount? Just wondering if it's worth popping into the Pub for a drink to go with it or just getting them to go outside. Thanks!

I've been told they are the same fish. I don't know about hte portion sizes.

We always get the fish from Yorkshire County and drinks from the bar and go and eat in the garden where the bandstand is. We have never been able to get seats in the pub, too crowded and too small. We love us some fish from Yorkshire. Cheers!!!!!!

There was a big debate here a while back and someone made a compelling argument that there are two different kinds of fish served at these venues. Having said that, I had the F&C inside R&C a couple of times, and from the Yorkshire window several times. The fish served inside was one long piece, the fish from the window was two smaller pieces. I thought the F&C served at the window were fresher, hotter, and crispier than what I had experienced indoors. If you don't mind the possibility that it might be difficult to find a place to sit outdoors, I'd recommend it.

Here's a little tip I discovered more recently: It was right at 11AM, we entered R&C through the pub and asked to be seated for lunch. They explained that the pub was open to serve drinks, but the restaurant section didn't open till 11:30AM. I asked if they minded if I ordered at the window and brought it in and they were completely fine with that (of course we ordered drinks from the bar.) The pub had only one other table occupied so it was very comfortable in there, and the service from the bar was outstanding. It was the best of both worlds. :earsboy:

They are 2 different fish.

The restaurant (Rose and Crown), uses a 6oz beer battered Cod, whilst the Yorkshire County quick service uses a Japanese Cat Fish (beer battered, and is 2 small strips, sometimes 3 if the strips are smaller). The restaurant fish and chips cost $19.99 and quick service is $10.11 (including tax).

The cat fish used is very similar to cod, just slightly sweeter.
