EPCOT rumors

Didn't we read later that Project Gemini was a task given to new (or even inspiring) imagineers to remake Future World? And wasn't this map just one of the efforts submitted by one of them?

Haven't there, at various times, been thoughts of a water ride for Japan, based on Mt. Fuji, and a boat ride in Italy (perhaps more comparable to Mexico's ride than a flume), based on Venice?
The rumours I've read were for a roller coaster like the Matterhorn for Japan, and a boat ride "down the Rhine" for Germany. The German pavilion actually has a large show building that could contain a boat ride.

Is it just me or does that map look like a giant plant or animal cell? It reminds me of high school biology, ick!

There is also a show building in back of Germany which was originally supposed to be a boat ride down the Rhine river. Of course, that never panned out, and the building was used at different times for different things like show practice and storage. There is in fact a "Gemini" project. The map may not be to scale, but it was only one of several plans. The original cost was around $500 billion for the whole project, which management did not want to spend at the time. You will notice, however, that things are starting to change slowly at Epcot, and it will probably be a number of years before most of it is done, although not necessarily the way that map shows, or with exactly the same ideas as originally drawn up. One of the other things was that MS was supposed to have a lot more to it then it finally wound up with.

I think you mean $500 million. And they would never spend that much all at once on Epcot. It is more like the amount they would spend on a new park. So perhaps they WILL split it into two separate parks.

A "typo". I should have typed million. Also, that was the approximate cost to re-do Epcot future world. That is why it is being done a little at a time.

I'm glad to hear rumors of new attractions in Epcot, but why put in a raft ride that will probably just be a differently-themed version of Kali River? I hate when they have duplicate attractions at different parks.

Also, does anybody really want to walk around World Showcase, shopping, dining and watching shows, soaked to the skin from a raft ride? Kali is nice, but you sort of have to plan your day around it. Either you wear a poncho (why bother going on a wet ride if you're not going to get wet?), bring a change of clothes or leave the park right after riding.

This is one rumor I hope is wrong.
