Now that it's torn down, I'm glad I snapped this one back in November:

When did they tear this down? Do they have any plans for this space?

I'm not sure of the exact date of when it was torn down- but I was in EPCOT on Tuesday and the space had been filled in with various plants and topiaries. A couple benches were added, as well.
