what happened to Tapestry of Dreams? (or Tapestry of Nations?)
I heard the name got changed... then when I went to the WDW offiical website for park schedules/times... I saw NO parades listed for Epcot. What gives? Has it been discontinued?

Yes, it's been gone for a few years now. I'm disappointed, too...I really liked that one. The music is so lovely!

Epcot currently doesn't have a parade.

Yes it has been gone for a while now. Sadly I never got to see it. From what I heard it blocked up the walkways in the world showcase too much.

Tapestry of Nations was scheduled for a short finite time period to go with the turn of the century. Apparently it was popular enough to be continued, renamed Tapestry of Dreams and with slightly changed costumes, but again was scheduled for a short finite time period.

There were two parade units, one emerging at the "beginning" of the parade route and the other emerging "from the middle" of the parade route around the time the first unit got there.

We loved that parade. We have the cd with the music from that parade and listen to it a lot. Wish they'd bring it back. ::yes::

:lmao: Sorry, you brought back some memories. I was in the WDWCP during the Tapestry of Nations.. I will always remember those CM that were in the parade as kind of snotty.

the parade was costly , not only in desing but in the medical expensis it had to pay its injured performers. those puppets did some major spinal damage to many performers. they were very heavy.

You can by the music of that parade and the current Illuminations on a CD called Epcot: Tapestry of Dreams.

Actually, the original Tapestry of Nations had 3 parade units, each led by a Sage of Time character. First unit traveled from Mexico to Germany, second unit Germany to Morocco and third unit from Morocco to UK. For the 2nd parade of the night, the order was reversed. At the midpoint of the parade (about 10 minutes in) the characters and drum clock floats stretched from Mexico to UK which was really beautiful. Due to safety and show concerns, the segment between Morocco and UK was discontinued as even light winds made the bridge between France and UK treacherous.

When the Millennium Celebration ended, Tapestry of Nations was reworked into Tapestry of Dreams which was just a scary shadow of the original with freakish new characters replacing the Sage of Time. The parade ended in either 2001 or 2002.

They still show clips on the ball during illuminations, and play the music at the end while you leave the park.

We absolutely loved Tapestry of Nations and mourned its passing, but I had heard about the medical issues for the performers, so I totally understand why they had to discontinue it. And it's true they still play the music after Illuminations. One of my favorite memories from a short trip my oldest son (then 18) and I took in 2003 revolved around that music. We always take our time leaving after Illuminations, strolling leisurely the long way around WS, shopping in Mousegears, maybe sitting for a while -- I highly recommend this tactic to avoid the stress of fighting the crowds. Anyway, it was a cold February night when we were passing in front of American Adventure while the Tapestry music was playing, and we encountered a group of maybe half a dozen CM's, probably relaxing a little after a long day of making guests happy, who were dancing to the music as if they were the parade puppets! We joined right in, had a laugh, and wished them a good evening before continuing our stroll. Yay -- 16 more days and we get to stroll again!!

thanks for all the info. i'm bummed. i think my mom really would have like the parade. but that's okay. i sure don't want any performers in pain. :wizard:

Really? I must've lucked out - one of my really good friends during my program was in the parade and one of the sweetest guys I've ever known. The kind of polite, chivalrous guys you don't run into much anymore, LOL. A few of his friends from work that I'd met were also always so nice.

I saw Tapestry so many times that semester, LOL. We were constantly heading over when he had a new puppet, or just for the heck of it. I still remember the first time we went, he came by and we all started cheering and yelling for him and the woman next to me started laughing and I overheard her tell her husband, "Do you think they know him?" It was always fun though - he truly loved his job. He was always the most animated person out there and really played to the little kids, making his puppet give hugs or wave. So much fun to watch.

I'm sure some people had problems, but judging from my friend that was in the parade, they make sure that each performer is up to the challenge of those puppets. They worked a full day, even though the parade doesn't last long. The majority of the time was spent weight training and working out to make sure that the performers were in the physical condition that is needed to carry those puppets, as well as practicing carrying the puppets. And they didnt allow them to move to heavier puppets until they were physically ready to handle the demand.

"Way-la, oh way-la, way-la."

Now that you're all singing along with me... :teeth:

We loved that parade, also. Got to see it three times in our trip in '02, got good video of it on that trip, also. So, it lives on every so often on our TV.

You could almost not get out of the World Showcase near Germany...it was horrible. I never did really like this parade....
