Epcot on New Year's Day??

We're arriving at MCO 12:21 on New Year's Day so I figure we'll be hitting the International Gateway shortly before 2 after checking in at Swan. Any chance the park will be closed due to attendance figures? How are crowds generally 'In the World' on that day? I'd like to hit Epcot, the ESPN Club for some college bowl action and PI that night but I don't know what to expect, never having been to WDW on any holiday. Any advice?

Last New Year's Day, no problem gettin into any of the parks at that time of day.

You won't have any problems getting into Epcot, but ESPN will be packed to the rafters with college bowl fans who have been camping out for hours to get in. You might be able to snag some standing room in back, but don't count on getting a seat or a place at the bar. PI will be crowded, but not packed.

My experience is that you'll be fine. I've gone to WDW several times that very first week in January, and although I've never spent January 1 in Epcot, I've spent a January 2nd and plan to be there (at Epcot) the day after you. I always remember what a CM in Epcot once told me on January 2 after the Millenium celebration-"I think everyone parties so much New Year's eve that they don't have any more money or energy on New Year's Day for anything but getting home." Between Texas A&M and UTexas each in a Bowl game, I'll bet you'll meet alot of Texans at ESPN on the first!

I think PI has a special "ticketed event" that night. So does City Walk at Universal. I know they have David Lee Roth in concert and a buffett. They both cost around $100pp. Oops.. saw you were going New Years Day it it the eve for the parties
