epcot lakes dry

Looking at the photos, I see (and remember) that the bottom of these pools were covered in rocks, but I also remember them being tiled. Or am I just losing my mind? :rotfl:

We used to like to look in them to see the creatures that found their way in, like ducks, turtles, and frogs.

I'm so glad to hear they were just being drained!

We were there for the first time, in the begining of July. We saw this area, without water, and were wondering..

"will there be no water in the future? Is that what Epcot is predicting?"

And a "Plantlady" with no water...
would soon become a...
"Sticklady".

I think they are tiled around the sides, but you STILL could be losing your mind, tiles or not.

well i mainly missed them because without them the upside down waterfall was not functioning when we were there last week.

They are not "connected" in any physical relationship (one could easily run without the others) and that goes for the "leaping" waters as well.

But it IS likely that if they were doing "pool maintenance" ;) on that side of Epcot, they chose to do most of the water features all at once.

Waterfall was working today, the ponds were all still dry. No tile on the ones I saw, they were just concrete.

That can only mean one thing...
Tile Poachers!

(Oh, I hope they didn't get hold of the 'little red" tile, it was my favorite.)

Now, it could be that Thomas, the custodian of the "ponds," is just cleaning them.
(Nobody really calls him "Thomas"... he is "Tommy", "TOM-mie!")

I understand the the ponds are scheduled for a TWO WEEK shut-down (safaris I know), but it may be CUT SHORT if the Tile Poachers are caught.

But at any rate, kwaherini, everyone, kwaherini !

Make that a 2 week vacation AT Disney, and you've got a DEAL!

They drained the lake (river?) of the MK years ago and found thousands for turkey leg bones !!!

:rolleyes1

OK, OK, I know what happened to the tiles - those crazy scrap-booking nuts that save every bit and speck of WDW have been taking them, and putting them in their dreaded scrapbooks...

HEY HEY HEY!! I resemble that remark!! :rotfl:

Robo - I'm not so much interested in the "triumphant return" of the "puddles" as I am interested in the upkeep of the parks. We actually had a really interesting conversation with a couple of workers who were painting some wrought iron fences in epcot last time we were there and I find it fascinating to hear about how often regular maintenance has to be done to keep everything looking good as new. That being said, I also hope all the FW fountains will be up and running for our kids 1st trip to WDW in Sept. We've told them all about them and they are really looking forward to seeing them. We knew enough not to get them too excited about any rides or shows because you never know when they are going to change or get shut down, but we sure never thought that would be a problem with the Epcot fountains!!!

They run virtually every day, but I have seen them "down" more than once.

And I'm talking about them not operating the BIG fountain in the center of FW (one of my favorite things to see is that fountain "performng" to the music) and not running the "jumping" fountains and/or the "up-hill" fountain over at the Imagination Pavillion.
That's disappointing, and fortunately it does not happen often.

But this thread is actually about small pools that do not "pump" water.
And to pay much attention to a few "puddles" that surround a couple of the monorail pylons is just not a big deal to me (these are NOT fountains, just pools).
The thread title that says Epcot "lakes" is a bit misleading, to say the least.
Again, I LOVE how everything is SO well-kept, but I will gladly ignore a few "dry puddles" as long as the major attractions are up and healthy!

Amen to that, Robo. Like I said, I'm more interested in the maintenance aspect. There is so much stuff like this that has to go on to keep everything ship shape and you just don't think about it unless you see them painting, or the ponds drained. Whenever I see Main Street or WS all lit up at night I remember hearing about a crew whose entire job is just going in every night and replacing burned out light bulbs so they will look beautiful every single night. The people who do all this upkeep are amazing!! The fence painters we spoke to said the fences get painted every couple of months and they get scraped and re-painted once a year! Can you even imagine?!!?!
