Epcot Food and Wine festival...

Looking at our son's school calender. I think we are going to end up arriving at Disney on the first day of the Food and Wine festival. I have read the books and they say that this is a very busy day, but I can't figure out if this is a busy day for EVERY park or just Epcot. In addition, I need to know if Disney Traditionally has promotions during this period? I am willing to change our dates a few days either way AND I understand that none of you have a crystal ball and we are all speculating, but a good indicator of the future is the past. So could someone please help me out?? Or a lot of someones

The festival runs for almost 1.5 months and is the best time of the year at Epcot,food booths to sample food and drinks from dozens of countries,daily concerts and a great atmosphere.With that said avoid the weekend as it gets ridiculously crowded,the first day of the festival should also be very crowded.The other parks shouldn't be as too bad but I've gone plenty of days expecting lighter crowds and have been amazed by the crowds,the truth is that there's probably only 3-4 weeks all year at Disney with low crowds.

We were there during the festival in October of 2010, and my mom was shocked at the crowds. She had never been around that many people at WDW. All the parks were crazy packed b/c of free dining. That being said, as long as you utilize the fastpass system to its fullest, you can manage any size crowds. The weather is lovely that time of year, and we are going back in October of 2012, so it didn't dissuade us.

Looking at my plans, I'll likely be there on the last Sat of F&W. On another board, one person mentioned this shouldn't be a big issue since we're not going to do the World Showcase that day. I was wondering what others experiences were.
