EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, Sept. 25 - Nov 16 2015

If the slushies in France you are referring to are the ones you can get year round that kiosk is not a F & W booth so you wouldn't be able to use the Sampler entitlements at that drink kiosk.

No, it was the La Passion Martini Slush (vodka, Grey Goose Le Citron, cranberry and passion fruit juice) from the F&W booth that I was referring to. I was also looking at the MaiTai in Hawaii, the tequila flight in Mexico and the Reisling flight in Germany. Those are all on my "must try" list and if they are included in the package, I would purchase it without hesitation.

I wouldn't expect any of the flights to be included either. But, the Reisling flight was rather inexpensive compared to other drinks last year. Even the beer flights aren't that pricey. Based on how they did the entitlements for the Late Night Live Party last year anything that was less than $13 seemed to be included but we had limited booths that were open and they didn't even offer the two most expensive champagnes during the party. We won't know anything thing for sure until the Festival starts & people report what actually is or isn't excluded.

I think trying the sampler on your arrival day is a good idea to taste maybe some of the more expensive "headliner" food items with the entitlements. Honestly, Disney is so unpredictable I wouldn't bank on any alcoholic beverages being included (just because I am a conservative planner). I 100% understand the premise of treating your mom and not wanting her to look at every nickel - I did that with my mom our first few trips and now I may have a monster on my hands :) but you could always load $50 on a gift card and tell her it HAS to be spent at Disney anyway and to enjoy herself!

As previously mentioned, France has those yummy slushes at the permanent kiosk as well and I like one of those a little better than the special f&w one anyway. We always mix the permanent drink offerings in with our f&w or flower and garden touring (not in small part due to the ability to get a normal sized pour of beer, a full size mixed drink, or whatever. Man those cucumber martinis were small! Not that I wanted more of it anyway...)

I'm always shy of a sunk cost and so many of the super great selections are only a few dollars, I'd probably go with the gift card. You might also consider taking your mom to a "real world" tapas restaurant before you guys go down to f&w, if you live in the same city or it'd be reasonable to do so. I think compared with my neighborhood tapas restaurant, the prices at kiosks in Epcot are pretty reasonable. Of course the atmosphere is very different and you don't have a table, but it kinda helps me justify those sticker prices at Epcot.

You will have a wonderful time either way! Good luck deciding!!

Opinions please:flower3:!

We arrive on a Thursday morning and plan to be at Epcot between noon and 1pm. Our flight lands at 10am and we are taking DME to Pop Century, dropping our bags and heading to Epcot. Mom is a bit...shall we say..."frugal":D, but she has been to Disney and understands that it is pricey. That being said, I really want her to enjoy her first F&W Festival without experiencing too much "sticker shock". Dad has arranged all the financial stuff and has allowed for a very generous food budget ($400 for 5 days...just mom!) and mom has not looked at it yet. She just says, "Whatever you guys want to do" when we try to explain it to her:lmao:.

Here's what I am thinking...even though it may not be the best financial value, I was thinking about purchasing ONE Sampler Package for our arrival day (Thursday) and then share the 8 entitlements (and cost) between the two of us. This would let mom have an introduction to the Festival offerings without having to concern herself with the prices on the menu. We have no interest in the concert so that is a moot point. The pin is a nice touch, but it's probably not something I would be buying anyways.

I talked to my dad about it and he said it was "not a bad idea". He also suggested that since we will also be there on Monday, perhaps we should buy a second, single package for that day too. His only hesitation, which is also my main hang up, is that FINANCIALLY, it is probably going to actually cost us a little more to book the packages. I figure $62 (incl tax) for 8 selections means that each item has to average $7.75. I know that the mushroom filet in Canada is about that much, but we aren't going to eat EIGHT of them:crazy:. I will be curious to see the prices of the alcoholic beverages that are included. We are not beer drinkers at all. Mom will drink some wine and I prefer the mixed drinks. I know the slushies at the booth in France are usually around $10 so if they are included, I would buy this package without hesitation:drinking1.

So, without knowing what items will be included, and what the list price will be, would you advise me to buy this package now? Since we aren't going until the middle of October, do you think I should wait until the Festival opens and prices/exclusions are "official"? And along that line, do you think if I wait, the packages may sell out? What about the idea of buying it for the two days? Any thoughts?:disrocks:

ADDITIONAL:

I went through last year's booths and compared them to the items announced for this year and came up with some selections.
Canada: Mushroom Filet ($7.25)
China: Kung Fu Punch ($8.50)
France: La Passion Slush ($9.95)
Greece: Tzatziki Martini ($7.75)
Hawaii: Aulani Sunset *2014* ($6.75) ...assuming Mai Tai will replace this
Mexico: Mango Strawberry Margarita ($8.50)
Poland: Frozen Szarlotka ($8.75)
Puerto Rico: Mango Rum ($7.25)

TOTAL: $64.70 (assuming these prices include tax)
So, with these prices presumably going up, and the price of the package being $62.84, I would, in fact, come out ahead if all of these items are available and included.

No, I agree with most this is NOT a good value. Even though your Dad says he doesn't think this is a "bad" idea, it is certainly not a good one either. If you are paying more money to avoid sticker shock at each booth, I find that to be false economy. Just go with the flow, find a booth with something you like and order it. Put your money on a gift card if you don't want to exchange cash for each item. I personally just cannot see spending more for something and feeling the need to order the higher priced items in order to get "value", IYKWIM?

Hi guys,

We've just booked the Premium and Sampler packages for our trip this year, it's our 4th time visiting during F&W but the first year we've really wanted to be involved.

I was planning on giving the demo a miss but now I'm thinking maybe I'm being too hasty. I am teetotal so if we do attend it will be a Culinary Demonstration. Can someone fill me in on how these work!? How long do they take?! How the seating works!?

It is such a pain that we have to ring to book these; they should email you a voucher code when you book your PP that you can then enter when you book your demo/seminar online. Disney's systems are so antiqued.

Thanks all, very excited.

For anyone who booked one of the three Disney Visa cardholder events, does the event show in your MDE? We booked The Creation of Food and Wine Marketplaces but it's not showing up for either of us. My fiancee, who did the booking, thinks she was told they would mail us the tickets, which sounds strange since I don't recall ever getting hard tickets for any F&W event in recent years. I wouldn't be concerned but the event has a start time of 8am when the park opens at 9am so I would hate to show up at the wrong entrance or lacking some ticket or other credential we needed.

Thanks for all of the suggestions:thanks:. Since we are planning a large family trip to WDW next fall, mom and dad have already started accumulating gift cards. They buy them from the school's TRIP program so the "use it or lose it" really won't apply. In fact, I fear it would backfire since mom may feel like keeping the purse strings tight on this trip so that she can splurge on all the kids and grandkids on the next one. That was one reason I thought about the sampler package...it would REALLY be a "use it or lose it" proposition...and I don't think we would really "lose" that much money. I think the worst-case scenario is a break even, but again, I can't thoroughly evaluate it until the Festival begins, and by then, it may be too late to get it. Decisions...decisions....

(Honestly, I think "fretting" over this decision is merely my mind's way of passing time until we leave:bored:...)

This one is going to be tougher to pull off, but.... what about buying one of the special food and wine gift cards and telling her it's "different" It certainly looks different so she might go for it :) But you can't buy it in advance which is a problem

Has there been any more info regarding the F&W gift card? I thought I'd read a rumor they'd only be available in a $200 denomination? Any confirmation on that?

I believe that was a special 20th anniversary card. I imagine there will be generic food and wine cards for purchase also.

Yes, I believe someone posted earlier that a CM had told them about that card, and it comes with a special lanyard maybe. Sadly, that's the only information I've seen, so it's very much up in the air if even that's correct since things change so quickly.

My apologies ahead of time if this has already been asked. Sadly, I don't get to read the Disboards every day.

Is there a difference in the seating and/or lines between the Festival Tasting Sampler concert passes and the Eat to the Beat dining passes?

I don't think that information has been released. There is also a tier 1 FP+ option for Eat To The Beat available too.
