***Epcot Food And Wine Festival Info 2008***

For those following this thread, I am planning to unstick it (probably on Thursday) and start a food and wine reviews thread (that I will probably make a sticky thread) on the Restaurant Reviews Board for reviews of the festival food and events. This thread will still be here, it'll just be unstuck.

Found this!

for the Louisiana Booth stuff…..yipee!

Each week the "My Louisiana" experience will feature a different region of the state focused on the state's newly launched Culinary Trails program:

Week 1: Creole Fusion region in the New Orleans area, including St. Tammany and Jefferson parishes
Week 2: The Delta Delights region, covering northeast Louisiana including Ruston and Monroe, in partnership with the Prairie Home Cooking region in the center of the state, including Alexandria
Week 3: Seafood Sensation region, including Lake Charles and the surrounding area
Week 4: Red River Riches region in the northwest corner of Louisiana, including Shreveport
Week 5: Cajun/Bayou Bounty region in Acadiana, including Lafayette
Week 6: Capital Cuisine region in southeast Louisiana including Baton Rouge and the surrounding area

This question may have allready been asked and answered, its such a long thread.

I remember hearing or reading somewhere about a FWF card that one could buy to use to pay at the booths. My sister and I would like to buy one for our Dad, since he was kind enough to pay for the rooms. Also would like one for myself as dealing with a bunch of small bills and change as I booth hop is not appealling. My questions are:

Where can I get this card?
Does it come in specific increments or can I put any amount on it?
Is it only good at Epcot? And for that matter, is it only good at the food booths or can one use it in an Epcot restaurant?
Is it easy to use, or have people had trouble with the card swipe machine?
If you have money left over, how easy is it to get it refunded?
Does it have your name on it? For instance, if one can use it in a restaurant and one has the DDE in their name and the FWF card in their spouses name, is that a problem?

Thanks for your advice in advance and a special thank you to the person who volunteered to post the daily schedule on Thrus or Friday, that will be SOOOO helpful in our planning! Can't wait!

Is it easy to use, or have people had trouble with the card swipe machine? I've had no problems. But sure it could happen.
If you have money left over, how easy is it to get it refunded? I don't think refunds are given... but I could be wrong on this!
Does it have your name on it? For instance, if one can use it in a restaurant and one has the DDE in their name and the FWF card in their spouses name, is that a problem? There are no names on the Gift Cards Unless you write one on it. There are names on the Visa Reward Card and on your room key, however.

Hi! What a sweet thing to do for your Dad! There are several cards you can use. A Disney Gift card is probably the most common and easiest to buy. You can get them at any cash register in Disney and put any amount on it that you want. A second option, is to use a Disney Visa "Rewards" card. People that have the Disney Visa card earn points that they can trade for a cash value "Reward" card. And of course, some of us like to use our Room Keys to charge back to our room. So enjoy! Hope you have a blast! We'll be there in a couple of weeks ourselves!:woohoo:

You can purchase a disney gift card, put the amount on it that you want to. It can be used anywhere. There is a special one, food/wine fest detail but you can still use it anywhere. I am guessing no refunds or credits on a gift card so caluculate carefully.

Keep in mind, a little cash in the pocket is always good as sometimes the credit machines at the booths go down and the only people that can be processed are those with cash.

Thanks for posting the updated list. I'm too tired right now to compare, but it almost looks like there's more repeats than usual? And I'm kind of disappointed that the France sorbets are back, I thought they were pretty bland and icy.

Roasted beet salad sounds terrific though, I love roasted beets.

Day after tomorrow for us! I only have to cook dinner one more night this week. :woohoo:

Thanks for the update Chip&Dale&fun i can't wait but luckily i only have to wait another couple of days

In the DDE brochure I got there is information about a special edition Disney Gift Card available at the Festival Welcome Center (the old Wonders of Life Pavilion). It is supposed to be themed for the F&W Festival.

You are welcome!

I am curious to know what they look like. But I think they would make a terrific souvenir. I will know in just three days!!!!!!! (not that I am counting, or anything....)

This is my first fest and I was wondering about how much the bottles of wine cost .. I am sure there is a large range but I guess I was just trying to figure out if some of them are reasonable. We are going prior to our cruise on the Magic so I figured maybe I would buy some wine for on the cruise...thanks for any help I can get :):goodvibes :lovestruc

I was going to say don't bother, as unless there's a particular wine that you can't find back home, the prices are all higher than what you'll pay in stores, but then I saw that you're going on your cruise afterward.

Will you have a car or other mode of transportation to the port? If so, I'd recommend that you find a bottle you like at Epcot, then pick it up at an ABC on the way to the port if you have time. The bottles tend to be about 25% higher than you'll pay in a liquor store, and the ABCs around here have good selections and reasonable prices.

Edit:

also, here's what's new this year from that list. Still looks like a LOT of repeats :( 34 more hours to go!

I think it depends on what you're buying. We try to limit ourselves to items that we can't find anywhere else.

We found a bottle of Disney's Iron Horse Cuvee (their exclusive champagne) for about $29, which is a great deal because you'd pay twice that on the cruise.

But we also saw wines that we've purchased here at home that had been marked up by as much as 50%. We don't buy those. ;)

I'd say the price ranges are probably anywhere between $15 - $200 depending on what you're looking at.

I disagree with the pricing issue.

Maybe they are higher then what you find in the Florida stores, but they aren't really higher then what my stores charge! There is one wine I found at the Festival I drink quite often Price at Disney and price at my local wine shop. EXACTLY the same! LOL!

As for the food list. I kind of feel for Disney.

When they don't put on new things people complain "It's the same stuff"
When they do put on new things people complain "My favorite is gone"

And sometimes it's the SAME people who want ALL new things except for THIER favorites LOL!

Check the list carefully...I found some of the earlier food suggestions have been changed, inlcuding a mushroom dish from Germany I was looking forward to...but are taste buds are ready come what may, it is still yummy!!!!!
