Epcot ... England ... "new band"

I saw them twice last week and thought they were a bit over the top for Walt Disney World.

And can you say LOUD! Holy cow. I heard them one evening when we were strolling the Boardwalk by ESPN.

As a band, they are very good. But IMHO, they just seem a bit out of place in WDW. Maybe it is I am so used to the British Invasion.

I probably won't go to see them again.

If you thought that Baba O'Riley was well done, go check out a piano player named Daniel at Jellyrolls play it........

Absolutely amazing!!!!!

Off topic but Dh and I LOVE Daniel at Jellyrolls. We saw him last week and he was superb as usual!! :worship:

On the positive side ... the sample to Baba O'Riley was well done

Are you serious? It was HORRIBLE!!! They were off almost the entire song, and didn't even do the entire thing! Keith and John would be rolling in their graves if they heard that! :headache: :sad2:

Saw them in person, must have been there second day, and they were different but I don't think bad. They aren't like the old act, but they aren't trying to be I think. The you tube doesn't show them very well. They aren't polished yet, but having a Boddingtons and hanging out in the evening time was nice. They had decent energy and were engaging the crowd. Most people seemed to be having fun. What else can you want? I think them trying to emulate the old act would have been disaster. They weren't polished yet, but considering I saw thier second show or so I thought they were not bad. Of course I love the rose and crown and maybe my bar bill made me enjoy them:)

I saw them 3 or 4 times when I was there earlier this month. They were great!! As was the BI. The new BA group filled the courtyard with each set. Many were singing along, including me and the DIS folks I was with. A good number of people were dancing in front of the gazebo area as well as back closer to the rowhouses. And quite cool, I was able to get video of Pooh and Tigger both out and dancing, along with air guitar, for half of one set. And a lot of the English CM's were out of the various buildings also, watching, singing, dancing.

A nice fresh change for the UK. :thumbsup2

I liked the British Invasion very much however when they started to play less Beatle songs that was it for me. The whole allure (for me) was to see them play Beatle songs in the UK Pavilion. They dressed like the beatles, played like them so don't try and play other UK hits. It just didn't work.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing this new act live after I've had the chance to travel the WS and throw a few back. The music they play is more in line with my age so I'll probably enjoy hearing Zeppelin, the Who etc.

Not being a big Beatles fan, I expected to like these guys more than I do but I find that right now they seem like just another band. The music isn't bad at all, but they lack the special something that BI had with their costumes, look, accents, etc. I'd like these guys just fine if they were playing the local pub on a Saturday night but at Disney I think the way BI presented their act fit in better with Disney's attention to detail and atmosphere of believable fantasy.

Well stated!:wizard:

I find it odd that people are so put off by their look. They are playing the music of groups like Queen, Elton John, The Who. They look like those groups. Toward the end, the Beatles didn't wear identical costumes. The hair and dress reminds me of the way most rock band members dressed in the 70s and 80s.

I attended live concerts by the groups you listed. I was there in the 60's, 70's, & 80's. I hate to disappoint you but the groups did not look like this. This group is channeling Van Halen appearancewise. Musically their just a bar band. Nothing special. Why spend premium $$$ to hear a group I could hear anywhere for a lot less $$$$? If you've led a sheltered life then this is adequate. I have higher expectations of Disney.

You'd have to think Disney will help them round their entire package into "Disney" fashion. I'm hoping to see a much better all around product when we're there in August. The music does not sound bad on youtube.

These guys are union, The American Federation of
Musicians. For what their getting paid as professionals they shouldn't need assistance in "rounding" out their performance by Disney.

Disney must see something in them or else they wouldn't be there.

Oh, I'm not certain ($$$) what Disney sees in them ($$$)...perhaps it's something we'll understand, given time ($$$$$$).

In all seriousness, I wonder what this change is saving them? It could be a nice chunk o' change!

I was there for their first two sets - not impressed - sounded like any garage band - not terrible just not wow! I hope they get better - they played a few songs that weren't really familiar to most - sorta lost the crowd - did some Beatles and Clash then drew people back - need to find their niche - hard to compete with a favorite that is gone

They did a Clash song? Wow.

Since they must be union, hence getting paid union scale, the savings is questionable. Unless they are not doing as many shows per day/week as BI did.

I did not get that impression at all. They sounded great. The did several Beatles songs in the two sets I watched.

People, maybe you should wait to see them in person before you start judging how bad they are. I liked the BI, but these guys are, IMHO, more talented musicians.

I never said they were BAD, I just said they look out of place. Look at Off Kilter, Mo' Rockin, what was once the British Invasion. They all look like they have a place in Disney. As PP have stated, these guys LOOK like a garage band. I never said anything about their talents. But in my most humble opinion the garage band look in the forum that they are playing in takes away from the overall show.

I agree with your assessment 99.9%. Their musicianship is adequate for a stereotypical garage/bar band. At this point they're not in a position to quit their day jobs. Perhaps the old Pleasure Island would have been a more appropriate venue.

Elton John and Freddie Mercury would be appalled.

Disney should not be looking for talented musicians to fill British Invasions spot. They should be looking for talented acts.

I have yet to meet anyone from Newtown without GREAT taste. :thumbsup2

Have you even seen them in person yet? I happen to be a huge Queen fan and I don't share the same opinon. We'll have to disagree on this one.

This will be unpopular, but I didn't think the British Invasion was all that and I grew up loving the Beatles. I saw the Beatles in concert. Each to their own.

I saw the Beatles in concert.

What year? Which concert? Perhaps we were at the same one. I saw them at Busch Stadium on August 21, 1966. I had a perfect seat right behind home plate. In spite of the lousy sound system they sounded fantastic. Unbelievable harmonies! They opened with Chuck Berry's "Rock n Roll Music" and ended with Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally."

I thought they were pretty good, the lead had a great voice, but I didn't like that they spoke in their american accents.
