EPCOT Energy Adventure-Days May be Numbered

That's kind of old news. Months ago that rumor surfaced that it would probably be replaced by a GotG type attraction. It was a pretty strong rumor for awhile, but, has since gone quiet. What that means is unsure, but, not much movement has been heard lately. It might bubble up to the top tomorrow for all we know, but, right now... not really active.

We did the World Destinations tour a couple weeks back(really enjoyed it BTW) and our guide advised us to go see Ellen's energy ride and see France's movie one more time. He told us that something was going to be going on with both - he said once they see the guys with all the measuring tapes, taking notes, the type of personnel, enignering,imagineers..,.that something definitely will be happening to both of those in the not to distant future.

Not at all opposed to getting rid of it. I worked at Disney for a few months, had unlimited chances to enter the park....and never rode it once. It's just not that great.

Hmmmm, I wonder what would be put in it's place?

Rumor was that a Guardians of the Galaxy ride was planned to replace it, but recently that has become less certain. It sounds like Energy is going to be replaced by something but Disney has not 100% made up their mind what. The language of this permit supports this since it uses very vague language about how the land will be used, more vague then is normal for these permits. Also, the permit does not show any work on the pavilion itself, it's contained in the construction area of the permit because it's rainwater discharge goes into the cancel that is going to be modified.

The days of Future World as we know it may be numbered.

Yes, they are numbered as Bob Chapek announced on oct 1 during the mk anniversary "ceremony".

It was starting to look like some of the retention pond moving near HS was coming to an end so time to move the crew to epcot and get that area prepped for changes. I wonder what will be announced this oct 1 on epcots anniversary.

rumor was also that it just cost to much...

i'm still trying to figure out what they need 2 new ponds for. at HS, they needed to move some water to use the land, change the entrance and put in the fireworks launch site but I can't think of anything at epcot where they might want to shift the water from.. The "ponds" aren't ecological and more like fountains. The only thing I can think of is the water closer to the entrance to world showcase like they plan to fill that in and pull world showcase further down into future world or complete the circle as there isn't really anything on the north shore.

No it wasn't just cost, there was more into it than that.

The ponds are retention, they have them all over property.

Yeah but it's because your moving water some from somewhere else, they aren't just randomly placed and made for no reason. The reason is what I'm trying to guess :)

They've been there for ever so it's likely something that was long ago. They are now moving the ones currently there for construction in the area for Epcot expansion.

Where were they originally (genuine question). That's what I'm kind of searching for as this looks like new ponds, not ponds moving.

They are planning to add more impervious surfaces (buildings, parking lots, paths, etc) to that area in Epcot. The canal cannot remove the water from a heavy rain fast enough so retention ponds are built to buffer the runoff and give it time to drain. This type of things is done almost any time new impervious surfaces are added on property.

I love that ride. I know its old and cheesy and slow. But I love it and my kids love it...it's part of their childhood. I'd love to see it just get revamped, but I know that won't happen. :(
