Epcot--Chefs de France--good food? good for kids?

We are traveling with 5 adults and four kids aged 10, 7, 4, and 2. The eldest is big-time into France and all things French--we thought it would be fun to have dinner at Chefs de France, however, I have a few questions:

The unofficial guide said the food was mediocre and overpriced. Any opinions on that? We are used to good food (New York City), how will this compare?

Will there be offerings on the menu for the picky younger kids?

Any other advice appreciated, thank you!

We were there for lunch recently, and although we just had soup and sandwiches, I thought it was quite good. Be aware, if you get the "pain bagnat" sandwich, it is definitely big enough for two people to share. I didn't think the prices were too out of line.

Our kids were not with us, but they did have a kids menu available. Maybe you could try it out for a late lunch, the prices are a little lower.

I forgot to mention - there was a little girl at the table next to us, and the mother mentioned that she was studying France in school. The waitress was very friendly, trying to teach her some French words and telling her about the area where she lives in France.

Hi there. We're from NYC as well, and do enjoy fine dining. We stopped at Chefs de France Tuesday for lunch. It was our first time and we both loved it! It is not super gourmet food like you might find at another WDW restaurant, however it is very, very good and tastey food. The creme brulee has started us on a creme brulee kick now! I still can't get over how good my lobster bisque was!! Fantastic! Also, we don't have children, but did see many younger children eating there. I think they were eating mac & cheese (there is an au gratin version of it on the adult menu). And their staple is a ham & cheese sandwich. As for your child who loves french stuff - the staff are all from France and we enjoyed hearing how our server was from Nice and listening to her beautiful french accent! We had heard about the mediocre food ratings in some books as well, so avoided it last year, but are glad that we ventioned in this year! You might want to get a PS - I'm sure they fill up as it is a prime viewing area for Illuminations!!

Hi micmacmissy,

The most recent Chefs de France review (from the 2005 edition) does not include mention of the previous issues with consistency or value. Also, the readers' "thumbs up" ratings improved to 81% this year, so I think you're safe.

Having dined there in the past year, I thought it was an enjoyable meal. A brief description of that meal can be found here: http://allearsnet.com/btp/authors_sehl4.htm.

Hope this helps!
