envelope colors next to thread??

What do the different evelope colors and symbols mean next to each thread?

I get the lock one, but that's about it. Some are red, some blue, some w/arrows, some opened?????

HOT means that the thread has been viewed by a large number of people but not necessarily that there are a lot of posts to it.
