Hi all, I have a couple of questions regarding the entertainment on the seatback TVs. We are flying from Manchester in economy.

Are the movies, documentaries, tv programs shown on Virgin flights 'on-demand'? i.e Can we watch what we want, when we want?

What is the chances that we will get a plane that junior can play games on? My understanding is this is limited on Virgin flights, Manchester being most so. Is there any MAN flights that have this capability?

Thanks :thumbsup2

Unfortunately unless you have a change of aircraft for technical/maintainence reasons you won't get the on demand or games these are only on the Heathrow planes :(

Claire ;)

There are three planes that sometimes do the Gatwick/Manchester - Orlando run that have games on them. They are Virginia Plain, Ruby Tuesday and Ladybird. Unfortunately even those three don't have on demand video though.

There are 3 entertainment systems on the Virgin planes:Nova, Odyssey and V-Port.

V-Port is only on LHR planes and has the the on demand functions plus the best games.

Odyssey is on 3 of the LGW/MAN planes is has more channels than Nova and has some older games.

Nova was the orginal entertainment system and just has six TV channels plus some music. It is the most basic and is fitted to 5 of the LGW/MAN.

Have a look at V-flyer for more info. :thumbsup2

Unfortunatley the chances are not good of getting one of the better planes so plane accordingly ;)

Plane we had going out from Man at Easter had games system and about 8-10 films to choose from.
The return flight had about 8-10 films again but no games system, worst plane I have ever been on transatlantic, and that includes the TCD plane.
Take some snacks with you also the food was disgusting. Glad we took some sarnies with us.

Wow, we must have been lucky then! We had the plane with the games system on our flight out last year. The flight was so empty, that we all spread out a bit and I ended up playing chess against my mum who was a couple of seats away! That was pretty entertaining, for 10-minutes anyway! Still no films on demand, but with each cycle you could chose any of the films, rather than having only 3 or 4 to chose from for each cycle.

November 2005 we got a virgin plane from Gatwick this included the games entertainement system which was a surprise and it was great fun, spent most of the journey playing on it. Sadly on the way home we just had the Movies but they had some great films.

We've only had the games once in twelve trans-atlantic flights so I would presume you won't have them. (And if you are lucky enough to get them it will be a nice bonus!)

My kids have Gameboys and Ninetendo DS's so I usually buy them a new game for the flight to keep them quiet! (Worth every penny!:thumbsup2)

Thanks everyone for all the info. I guess we can live in hope :)

Xavier: Junior has his PSP, so I was thinking about buying him a new game and giving him it on the plane. Think I definitely will do it now :thumbsup2

Make sure you take Junior to buy new games at Virgin megastore whilst you're there-games are about the same price in dollars as they are in pounds here!

We had Ruby Tuesday, and so the games also, on our flight to Barbados last month.

I thought I read somewhere that games bought in the US are not compatible on UK machines?

Anyone know if this is the case with the PSP?

Would be interesting to see if that trend continues through May and June. We fly out on the Thursday, so right now i'd say we have zero chance :headache:

Thanks for digging out the info Obi :thumbsup2

Depends what games console you are talking about. I believe with the psp the games are compatible but to play against another psp you would both need the same brand of game ie PAL or the American version. I think it is just the umds that are region coded.

Playstation and xbox games are region coded I believe but any games for portable consoles are definately okay.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the replies wicker and Xavier :)

Junior is gonna have a field day when he finds that out :lmao:

Obi,
where do you find out what planes are flying on certain days? when can I find out about August from gatwick?

I think that sort of info would only come out after the event Debbie, so August's would be given out in September (Obi posted April - which I assume became available in May).

I doubt they would schedule specific planes for specific days. I might be wrong though (wouldn't be the first time ;) )

That makes sense given the flying situation at present, no harm in hoping though, don't know why i'm pants at video games:rotfl:
