Entertainment CP Auditions

I am entering college this fall as an acting major at Oklahoma City University. It has always been a dream of mine to be a CP, especially in entertainment. I know you have to be an equity member to be in the shows, but I was wondering about getting into the cp program. I would love to do character work, but I was wondering what all you have to do to audition. I have dance experience and I sing too. What are some tips that you all could offer about getting into the program and the audition process?

I'm doing the program this fall, and I graduated from college last month. I don't know what it's like to do the program while you are still in school, but I know there are others who could share their experience. I'm glad that I won't have to worry about school again once January rolls around.

The application/interview/audition process was not bad at all, as long as you had an enthusiastic attitude about it and meet all the requirements for the CP. The waiting is the hardest though! I interviewed on January 26th, the audition was on March 28th, and then I got my acceptance letter on April 9th.

For the audition, there are two things to remember - 1) have fun, and 2) SMILE! Just go into it with a happy attitude and it will be fun! I had a lot of fun at my audition. I was very nervous at first, but I eased up towards the end and enjoyed it. They say that you don't need any prior dancing experience, but if you do, it definitely doesn't hurt.

You can get credit for the CP - you will need to contact someone at your academic advising office at school.

i thought the character auditions were going to be hard, but it ended up being a long line in which you went to different stations to be measured (height and then shoe size) and then to be weighed. Then they took us in groups of 30 and lined us up. I was taken out of the line with about 20 other people and put into a room that looked like a dance studio. We all spread out and stood straight with our heads forward while a woman walked around looking at us. After a while they took 5 people into another room and told the rest of us to go home. I couldn't have really "tried" any harder because I wasn't doing anything!

^sounds to me you went to a face audition rather than a character audition. In the character audition, you learn a dance combination and perform it.

I think one thing worth mentioning is that it isnt always as it seems.

My roommates girlfriend tried out for face charecter and got it. She auditioned for the role of Ariel and was told that was what she was going to do on her CP.

What she was promised and what actually ended up happening was 2 different things though. Out of the 6 months she was here, she probably did less than 15 Ariel shifts.

The majority of her time was spent being Pluto, Mrs Incredible , and some unknown dinosaur in AK.

just because you learn a new role does not guarantee you will actually do it. It's all up to scheduling.
