Enough time for Fantasmic Dinner Package?

We only have one day to spend in MGM. There will only be one Fantasmic show when we are there, and it will be at 6:30. Will we have time to do the Fantasmic dinner package where we would eat dinner first? According to another link here, the last seating for the dinner package that night would be 4:40. We would do the Hollywood & Vine buffet to cut down on time, but am still wondering if a sit down dinner will cut in to our already short time at MGM. Would it be better to take the kids (10 & 14) to Sci-Fi earlier and then just munch on concession fare while waiting for Fantasmic?

Depending upon the time you get to the park in the morning and the date you are visiting, you should be able to do everything you want to do in one day at MGM, including having dinner at HV and taking in the Fantasmic show. If you are staying on site then you may be able to take advantage of an MGM Early Entry day. (If you are going when its Super Soap weekend November 13 and 14th you will not be able to do to much as the crowd will be like a summer weekend, Jammed). Dinner at HV should take less than one hour or you can stay for as long as you want. With the Fantasmic package ticket you can go to the Fantasmic Package entrance by Oscars (Remember with the Fantsmic package you enter the show by the MGM main Park entrance Just to the left of Oscars. Do not go to the show gates past ToT) and you can get there about 20 minutes before show time. You will have reserved seats on the right hand side of the stage but you can always sit anywhere you want to if there is room. One day of touring at MGM is fine to see the majority of the attractions. Do not forget about using Fast Pass for TofT and RnR.

Personally, if youre not going at a busy time of year, Id skip the dinner plan. We did it once (Brown Derby) and the view from the far right wasnt worth it. Some of the boats that come out from the sides dont get illuminated until theyre closer to center stage, making it hard to see any of the characters. Plus you cant see the characters that are on the backside of the boats. And then there are support poles throughout, which might block more views. What we did was to head to Fantasmic to get seats about 45 min-1 hr before the show (this was in Feb-Presidents Week). We picked up some dinner at the vendors right before you get to the seats and ate while waiting for the show to start. I was worried my 2 yr old son would be bored, but he enjoyed watching the people and looking at all the equipment on stage.

Remember the one reason you're doing it to begin with. To see Fantasmic which is truly awesome! Do it! We did and the deal is wonderful and doesn't cost you anything. If you feel you're really pressed for time, then tell everyone to grab their food, eat quick and get on with your next thing to do. But I doubt you will. The H&V is a great restaurant with great food. By the way, when you're there, go back by the washrooms and through to the 50's cage and check out the theming there with the bar and living rooms, kitchens, etc. So many people miss this that are just 50 feet from another Disney moment!

take the fantamis dinner package, you will not regret it. In the long run it will save you time. I have done the the H&V package twice (since it is the least expensive) and found it to be well worth the price. Also you are guaranted seating in a section---sure it is the far right hand side, but you can see everything plus it is a spot that is extremely easy to leave from at the end of the evening.
Best thing is not having to wait 90 minutes in line and getting there to find you are in the extreme left hand seating area.
