I was in WDW last October and on the day we returned I learned my mother's cancer had come back. A couple weeks later I threw some clothes and my ol' cat in the car and moved in with my parents to help take care of Mom. It was just awful watching Mom deteriorate and not being able to "fix it" just keep her out of pain & keep her comfortable. To keep my sanity, I secretly planned another trip back to WDW...just the planning helped..even if I wasn't actually going to go.
Mom gave my brother and I a gift before she died and I used mine to buy into DVC....I even booked a trip. My brother bought a new truck, a new prop for his boat and some beer. Yep, he's a good ol' Kentucky boy.
Mom passed away May 3rd...on Kentucky Derby Day... When they play My Old Kentucky Home right before the race now it will have a whole new meaning. Think about me if you're ever watch the most famous 2 minutes in sports, okay.
I wanted Dad to move in with me, he wanted me to move in with him...he won. I spent three weeks painting/cleaning/fixing up my house and got it on the market. It sold in three days! Too many changes.....Too much reality it's time to get outta here!
Who's going? Me, Skye my DGD8, and a friend/coworker who's never been. This is a little strange because we've never spent much time together away from the office. I knew she's a fun person and talked with her about our touring style, earlybirds, etc. and decided it would work. She'd always wanted to go to WDW but doesn't have kids, yada, yada. Oh, and for a little gal, she's an adventurous eater which would give me someone to try some of the restaurants in WDW the girls won't try. For those of you who remember my last trip report, you'll be happy to hear I left DD29 home this time.
We flew out of Lexington and had an hour's delay in Atlanta (of course) and arrived at MCO around 3:00pm. Our guy from Yourride was there with his pink sign with our name on it as we decended the escalator. I keep forgetting this guys name and kept calling him the wrong name and still can't remember his name. I don't know why. He took us on a grocery stop and we got snacks, cokes, & a case of Bud Light that we only drank about 10 of.
I'd been wanting to stay at the Poly for some time now and to save points we stayed the first two nights at the Poly and the next five at BWV. We arrived at the Poly and I got us checked in. We were in Touvelu longhouse which was fine. It ended up that we weren't there much anyway. I wasn't awed like I was at AKL in October...the Poly just didn't draw me in and make me want to settle in. Since we were only going to be there two nights we didn't even unpack.
It wasn't long before it was time for our dinner PS at Ohana so off we went to the GCH & checked in. At the bar Lynn & I got a Lapu Lapu served in a pineapple with the left over drink that wouldn't fit the pineapple on the side...and just so Skye wouldn't feel slighted, we got her a virgin fruity thing in a pineapple too. Dinner was great. Skye had a great time with the coconut races, but that poor kid can't hoolahoop to save her life. She kept trying, but the hoop just fell to the ground every time. How in the world did I let her get to be 8 years old without learning the fine art of hoolahooping? I don't know, but as soon as she gets back from her 2nd trip to Florida, I'm going to teach her how to hoolahoop.
During dinner it started to rain and was still raining when we sloshed back to the room. Lynn & I were feeling a bit loopy from the Lapu Lapu's and Skye wanted to give that Volcano Slide a go but it was raining. Since me, Nana, promised her we'd go swimming after dinner we went swimming in the rain. There wasn't going to be any "Sorry Skye, it's raining." because she could plainly see that kids were still swimming when we walked by the pool on the way to the room. So swim we did. The rain had actually slowed down by the time we got our suits on and it wasn't too bad at all. Sort of sobered us up from the Lapu Lapu. We watched the water parade from the beach too which was pretty neat.
When we got back from the pool I introduced Lynn to the Zippa Dee Doo Da tip for the day channel and informed her that would be the channel we'd be watching throughout the trip. I wish you could see that look she got on her face! Oh, and she sort of made fun of my "Mary Poppins Bag" of stuff that we know is very important to take on a trip in case you need it...you know the one...the stuff from the packing list! That's where the Moleskin is kept........
