We are considering getting a pup, but during all my research one thing came up that concerns me... I read they all snore loudly, like a train.

Does anyone know if this is a fact for "all" of them... or could it have been this one persons experience?

Thanks!

We have a bull mastiff and he snores. It is not so bad that I would say it is like a train though. It is loud sometimes but for the most part it is not that loud.

Hi there, we did have 2 english mastiffs, both got to 200 lbs, wonderful dogs with our family. They both did snore now that I think about it...but so did our rotties and currently our Newfoundlands do as well. So I don't know if it is specific to the breed.

They are absolutely wonderful dogs! Beautiful big beasts! They did have a shorter life span, one lived to 8 the other only 6 (she went due to bone cancer).

Good luck if you get one! Any questions feel free to PM me.

Don't know about the snooring, but are you ready for the drool? My friend's English mastiff drooled on everyhing and everyone. He was the nicest dog, he passed away 2 weeks ago at 10 years, ancient for the breed.

My friend has cut back on her cleaning person's hours, she hadn't realized how much of the cleaning time was spent cleaning up dog drool.

I so need to stop DISing and go to bed...I just opened this thread expecting to read about english MUFFINS....It took me a few re-reads to figure out why english muffins snore!!! Forgive me I just got off work and it has been a long day!!

In my experience, most of the "bully" breeds snore, since they have been bred to have the rather pushed-in faces. I know English Bulldogs snore like the dickens, as do lots of pugs. I think their poor little mashed-in noses just don't work so well.

I can handle the drool.
I already have one drooler ;)

The hardest part will be the 10 years for me... that time will fly by so fast.

Thanks for all the info everyone!!

My daughter had an english mastiff. I called him my grandson. He was a gigantic baby. I loved him to death.
the drool was a big problem.

I currently have two English Mastiffs. They snore so loud I can hear them on the third floor when I'm in the basement! Don't let anyone tell you different. They drool and they are prone to passing gas. That part can be controled by proper diet and Brewers Yeast. You'll have to order that on line because you'll find most pet stores even the big chains rarely carry anything for XX large dogs. With all that being said, you will never have a more loyal companion. English Mastiffs are known as gentle giants for a reason. My 2 year old grandchildren climb on them, hide stuff in their jawls while they're sleeping, ride them like horses when they are laying down. they even love our cats, they cuddle together. They are eager to please. They do not make good outside dogs for guarding because they bond so strongly to their humans that they have to shadow you when your together. They actually can die of a lonely heart if they don't have enough love and attention. They are lazy if you let them, but love to be active when given the oppertunity. Yes they eat alot, but really not as much as you might think. Also everything is more expensive due to their size. Shots, heart worm meds, flea/tick control, meds when sick. Dosages are larger then average. I know that's alot to take in, but please do your homework before you commit. If an English Mastifff is the right fit for you, you won't be disapointed.
I can't begin to imagine my life without Bubba & Matilda.

Not sure if this applies to Mastiffs, but do they get the twist like Danes? If so it's something to be watchful of when you get one.
