I am looking to do England next August 2007 before the Med Repo. Where are the best hotels to stay (not overpriced) for a mom and 2 ds 12 and 15 I will not be renting a car and hope to stay where some of the sights are. London Bridge, Changing of the Guards, London Eye, Wax Museum I think I covered a few. If there are any other sights worth seeing please let me know. First timer to England. What area would be the safest and best to stay in. Please help

Sounds like you'll be doing London then? Anywhere else?

Those places you mention are not within a stone's throw of each other. I'm presuming you mean Tower Bridge as opposed to London Bridge (the latter is not much of a sight really). You just need a central London hotel - driving ain't really an option, but don't worry, the Tube connects most of what you'd need and is easy enough.

I stayed off Oxford Street last month, but have stayed in the Euston area, the Gt Portland Street area and the Bayswater area before when in London.... The other thing I've been told is that the old London City Council building across from Parliament and next to the Eye, had been converted to a hotel, and a colleague of mine stayed there with his family and was impressed at its location and price.

Hopefully I can keep it under $100 a night. So when I look for a hotel which area of London do I specify???

Think you'll be pushing it to get it less than $100 per night. Even the travel-lodges/travel inns are about £75 per night the last I recalled.... i.e. $125+. It's not an inexpensive place unfortunately. :(

No, London isn't inexpensive, by any stretch of the imagination but, if you try the link I suggested, you will probably come up trumps :sunny:

We've stayed in some great hotels, which should have cost well over £100, for around £50 - £60 (2 ad and 1 child) :thumbsup2
You can book up to 3 months in advance so it's not usually too 'last minute' :)

It's also worth remembering that staying in London over the weekend is often less expensive than in the week as the hotels lose their business customers who tend to stay Mon - Thurs ;)
