Engagement Ring Question

I totally helped in picking out the ring. Although, we didn't have a "traditional" engagement either. We've been living together for 5 1/2 years and were talking about our future one day and decided that we should start moving toward the next step. Since my DH2B knows I'm very picky about jewelry he wanted me to have a say, which I didn't mind at all. Although, I'm sure I would've loved it if he had picked it on his own, but buying an E-Ring is a lot of pressure and I didn't think it was something that *had* to be a surprise.

Each couple is different, though. I think there is a general idea of what a couple is "supposed" to do, but I don't necessarily agree with that. Couples should do what is best for them.

I was very involved in the decision process of the ring. We picked the one I absolutely love!

I MAJORLY helped pick it out.....drug him to all the stores i could. We made a deal that i could help pick it out but final decision was up to him....and of course when i was getting it. The one i picked out he ended up getting a BIGGER version of and surprised me a lot earlier than i was expecting.

Well...I sent lots of pictures via email of rings I liked so DF would have a clue :rotfl:

He ended up buying something TOTALLY different. I was showing him diamond solitaires (round/brilliant cut) and he got me a heart shaped ruby solitaire.

When I asked him why he picked this particular ring, he said "the ruby was because it's your birthstone and the heart is because we love each other"

Was it the ring I "wanted"? It certainly wasn't what I was expecting!

Do I love it? After hearing WHY he chose it? OF COURSE!!!

I think it can go either way. I think the way cycyk did it is the best!

My proposal was a total shock to me. He purchased the ring and asked me without me knowing, prior. I loved the ring, because he picked it out of love for me. I cannot replace it. (I'm a really softy).

Follow-up to above thread.

If I did pick it out it would be minimum 1.5 carat (two is my personal favorite) with a platnium setting.

I know of a great diamond jeweler in NYC if you are interested. You can email me. :flower:

He had an idea of my taste, but he picked it out on his own, and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I definitely had a hand in what ring I got. I had very specific requirements for what I wanted, and he wanted me to help. He said 'You have to wear it... So you can help, I want you to have the PERFECT ring.' I chose 2 or 3 I liked, but was very fixated on one, and that's the one I have!

We went shopping together, and I showed him the rings that I liked, but he made the final decision, and the actual proposal was a complete surprise (even though I knew it was coming!) He did a great job deciding which ring to get me.

:)

My fiance and I had stopped in a local jewelry store and she showed me the style of ring that she liked. That was about a year ago and we got engaged this past April, so she was certainly surprised.

Not only did I help "pick out" the ring, I also helped design it as well. We had a friend design and make our rings and they are very unique. I would have hated it if my DH had picked out a ring for me and surprised me. Plus, we had a blast shopping for loose diamonds :).

My DH picked out my ring and the proposal was a total surprise. Every time I look at my ring I think about him and how he picked it out and how much he loves me. I always wanted my engagement to be a surprise.

My DH asked what sort of ring I liked and had it made specially as he didn't like any of the ones in the shops (he's connected to the trade and said they were overpriced for the size of stones)

He since bought me a bigger one but I'll stick with my original :lovestruc

DW and I went to one jewelry store, and only to get suggestions from her and her ring size. Then, my best-friend and I went ring shopping, as he had had some gemology courses in college.

DH had a specific design in mind. I went with him to jewelry stores...tried on ones he wanted me to try on...pointed out ones I liked, but I wanted him to decide. He had me try on so many that I wasn't sure what I would end up with! In the end, I had sent him a link to one online. Even before seeing it in person, we both knew it was the "one". I love my ring and wouldn't trade it for anything!

Proposal was a suprise and the ring was picked out by him and I wouldnt change either for the world!

I was completely surprised when he proposed. I would always go to the store and visit my favorite ring(so I guess I picked it), but I had no idea he actually bought it for me. I love it!!

I "tricked" my fiance by having her Mom take her to help her look for anniversary rings, and then DF found "the" ring while helping Mom. It was perfect, she got the ring she wanted, yet it was still a suprise.

After dating for 11 1/2 years and having a daughter together ( 9years old now), we decided it was time to take the next step. We do not live together and I will not until we are engaged. So, the night before my b'day he drove up from Six Flags Great Adventure (he's the Stunt Director for the Batman show) and asked me to marry him... he had been telling me for 2 weeks prior to this that he wouldn't be able to be there for my birthday (when he promised I'd have my ring) and I was really upset... but then, he showed up and the ring was soooooooooooooo beautiful!! It's not like anything I would have picked out but it has 3 beautiful diamonds. One large one in the middle and 1 smaller one on each side in a strong but beautiful mounting of white gold. We say the stones are for the past, present and future... I wouldn't trade this for anything... I will wear it forever... :-)
