disneycrazzzy said:I was at Long's Drugs in Silverdale, WA today looking for stuff for my upcoming Disney vacation (DL for 4 days, DCL for 14 days, and WDW for 3 days) including looking for batteries on sale. I see the Energizer packs with the Disney pins for $7.xx (ouch!). Not knowing anything about this promotion I buy one of each, Goofy and Peter Pan, that they had in stock. I did note that the SKU for the package without the pin was the same as the SKU for the package with the pin.
After I got back to my computer I did a search on "Energizer" and "pin" and found this thread and found out there are 5 different pins and I shouldn't be paying more than $3.99 a pack.
After I picked up my boys from Basketball camp I hit the local Target (no pins), Toys R Us (no pins), and Walgreens (pins!). I found enough for four sets except missing two Mickey Minnie pins for $6.49 each. Again, I am thinking since the SKUs are the same I can find 20 packages at $3.99 or better and return them to the stores where I paid $6+. Not very ethical, but I'll pretty much do anything to save $40.
I visited Walmart and noted that they had the same packages (same SKU) without the pens for $4.87 so I knew I could at least get some of my money back. My next stop was the next Walgreens in East Bremerton, WA near Safeway. Amazingly, I walk in and they only have two packages with pins....two Mickey Minnie pins. Awesome! I am set and think this adventure is over but no.........
When they ring up my 2 packages, the total is less $4.19. What???!!! The packages are on sale for $2 each. I immediately go back to the display and buy 18 packages without pins to use to return to the other stores. I get back to my van and discuss with my sister (she's on vacation in Oregon, I bought 2 sets for her 2 kids and 2 sets for my 2 kids) what I've done and she suggests I buy all the remaining packages at $2 each and use the same strategy to buy at $6.49 where they have the pins and then return the packages for 2. I haven't been able to find $2 pins on ebay anymore! I feel so devious. I have never done anything like this before. Interestingly, after I cleared the dispaly of 8 more packs of AA batteries, the cashier calls a manager as I am leaving the store. As I leave, I verify that I can return something I bought at one Walgreens to any other Walgreens.
I go back to my van and find the receipts I have for the 16 pins I bought at the Walgreens in Silverdale and return to the store with 16 packages without pins and ask to return them. The cashier immediately leaves his post and heads to the back of the store to talk to the manager. They instruct me to go to the the Photo counter and I hear them talking loudly to each other in the back. Shortly (or maybe not so shortly) afterwards, the cashier comes back out and tries to tell me that the Duracell batteries are on sale and implies he can't help me. I explain that I found the batteries in his store for $2 a package and I paid $6.49 an hour before in Silverdale and I prefered the $2 price. After some additional explaining with the Manager, I got my money. Whew! What an adventure.
So in the end I found 18 pins for $36 and 2 pins for $15. I plan on returning the two pins to Longs Drugs later and then I'll have gotten 20 pins for $40. Not bad. Please don't flame me for grabbing more than my share of pins. If you live in the area and are looking for pins, there are still more at Longs and Walgreens and we all know how many Walgreens are around....every other block.
Thanks for reading....
