As often happens, the eneloop line has split into three versions: standard; lite; and XX. Lite is probably not of much interest to us but XX with improved high current operation looks like a good choice for flash units.

I have not used any that get the advertised 1500 charge cycles but even if we get only 100 they still cost far less than disposables!

I picked up a couple of packs at Costco which came with 8 AA, 2 AAA and charger and a coupe of C and D adapters for around $20 each package and have been very pleased with them. I use them in all of our devices around the house as well as in my Speedlite. They seem to hold their charge well.

I also bought a Powerex MH-C9000 charger to recharge them but I do use the charger that came with the batteries when I travel.

The key to enloops (or any high quality rechargeable battery) is getting a good charger. One that can charge each battery independently and has other functions like refresh, break-in, etc.

I have the Powerex MH-C9000 and love it.
