Ending of the Caskbill Software programs

Thank you Peg for trying and thank you to those who volunteered to help with the updates. No doubt I will miss using his wonderful programs but I miss his frequent insightful posts and selfless contributions to this board even more. I wish you only the best.

These are my sentiments exactly. I couldn't have said it better.

Good bye Bill, thanks for your insight and help. Thank you Peg for sharing your husband with us.

Peg

Thank you and the team for trying. I know it isn't easy to take over software, especially at a time when Disney is making so many changes in how they administer the program.

I continue to miss Bill the programmer, the Moderator, and frequent contributor to these boards. But mostly the man who gave selflessly to all us strangers and always with decorum and dignity.

Peg...we certainly understand your decision and wish you all the best this life has to offer. :)

What he said.....

Peg, as a former programmer myself, I fully understand the difficulty in trying to decipher someone else's program. It is with great admiration that I commend you and your wonderful team of volunteers for giving it the old college try:surfweb: Thank you for sharing with us:love:

It seem like ages ago finding out about the program and speaking to other DVCers about it. Thanks for evrything

Your efforts are truly appreciated by our family as well as all the efforts & time CaskBill generously shared over so many years. What special people both of you ! Blessings to you & your family and may your trip in May bring comfort to your heart knowing that your DH is smiling from above as you return to wdw.

Peace :flower3:

Our thoughts as well, couldn't have said it any better. :grouphug:

As you may remember: we began with all WDW theme parks with our annual pass. We had to walk around the park and ride its most noteable ride...Once done with WDW...it was on to Seaworld, then to the two Universal parks both Universal and Islands of Adventure. We began at 9 a.m. and ended around 10 p.m. that night. Thank goodness for free parking and annual passes or it wouldn't have been possible. But although very tired that night it was "one for the books" according to Bill.

See you in May....your DW has confirmed place already...its just time to figure out!

a BIG thank you for all you and Bill have done! Bill is certainly missed on the boards and I hope that you are doing as well as you can! Bill's software was very helpful to us when we were new members.

Peg,

Thank you for trying to keep Bill's program going! It is appreciated. I hope you continue to find joy in your life. Bill will always be missed here. Thank you for sharing him with us!

Peg thank you for posting this. Please know how much we appreciate you, and how much we will miss Bill as well. I hope that your visit in May will hold many dear memories, and that Bill's spirit will walk with you as you traverse Walt's 47 square miles.

Hugs and prayers,
Steph

Very well said!!

Since the Caskbill program is written in Visual Basic I believe that somewhere, down the road, someone will take a look at the notes and discover that answer is hiding in plain sight. But, since its Visual Basic, and Windows is inherently unstable anyway, it will be a challenge for anyone that can't see beyond the idiosyncrasies of Visual Basic. I know I'm not one of them. The Caskbill program is not dead. It is just on an extended hiatus. :thumbsup2

After years of doing only very simple DVC reservations, I'm in a period of balancing multiple trips, across multiple accounts and sharing points with my brother's family... I came on to see what was up with Caskbill's planner... I knew that he had passed away, but was hoping someone was able to maintain the code.

I'm saddened to hear of Peg's decision, and respect it, but being that I am a Visual Basic programmer by trade (13 years experience - including a lot of maintenance and revision of other peoples code that was not well documented), I'd like to offer another pair of eyes to look at the code if there is a chance of keeping the program going.

Is the source code publicly available? If not, Peg I'm willing to take a look and see if there is anything I can do to help.

Ted

Thank you Peg - just making your husband's work available for others to look into must have been hard. Bill's designs have obviously influenced other software I'm seeing out there... but his innovation still reigns supreme. :goodvibes I wish the Member website would take a hint... using their point calculator is a headache.

I'm also a programmer and can appreciate the challenges posed by digging into, debugging and modifying undocumented code as part of my job. (visualize tons of hair pulling :rotfl:) I also want to say thanks to all those who took a crack at Bill's work.

I have yet to plan a single DVC trip without Bill's program. Thanks to him and to you ... for everything!
