Endgame

I probably won't read it, even if the library gets a copy. I used to be a huge royal family geek around the time of the wedding in 1981. Like a lot of young teenage girls I was very taken with the idea of royalty and Princess Diana. As an adult I can see it for the dysfunctional crapshow it really is.
Well lots of Heads of States are dysfunctional crapshows....

TBH, as a Brit, I'm quite taken with King Charles. He built, legitimately, a business empire around him - the Prince's Trust, and the Duchy. A fine eye for all things organic, he even built his own community, Poundbury. And apparently he's a caring and compassionate landlord - can't make the rent? Pay next month, no biggie. I must confess though, he doesn't seem to be enjoying the Top Job, now that he has it! And many people have issues with Queen Camilla, although she's ok by me really.

I dunno. Maybe I'm too forgiving for HRH. As for Harry and Meghan, whoops-ee-doodle. They don't sit so well with me. That interview with Oprah was ill advised and his jetting off when he should have stayed and been supportive just cries foul.

I miss Queen Elizabeth II. She was amazing. Kept everything together, never seemed to give up. I think we'll all miss her.

As a Canadian I’m quite accepting of our King Charles.

Oh, indeed. I never stated that the royal family are the only dysfunctional crapshow...or should I say that I didn't mean to infer by my post that I thought that. I was really enamored of the BRF for many years; you could say that I put them on pedestals where nobody should have to stand. One inevitably gets knocked off.

I didn't mean to offend anybody. I should have chosen my words better.

No offense taken. But yes they are just humans - even Diana.

To be fair, Prince Charles was born on third base.

Impossible to really know much of who any of them are as human beings. Like the rest of us I'd imagine they all have their positive attributes along with their less desirable traits.

Queen Elizabeth essentially became something like a landmark, always there, always steady. That unflinching insistence to always be monarch first probably wasn't particularly healthy for her humanity.

Charles notably struggles at times to keep his frustration and impatience in check and I'd imagine behind the scenes he may be quite a pill when displeased. He also did not win the parent lottery and suffered for it.

Diana was ill-equipped (and unsupported) for her role within the family unit. She developed unhealthy coping mechanisms and acted out. She also did good in many ways for a lot of causes that didn't have much support at the time, particularly in the royal orbit.

Princess Anne has notably been notching up the most royal appearances for many years, but she also has quite the reputation for behaving in very imperious and entitled ways as well.

Prince Andrew -- yeah, that speaks for itself.
