End of May...Good time to go?

We have recently moved to Georgia and school lets out here end of May instead of end of June like Long Island does. I was thinking of going 5/28-6/3. Anyone know how crowds will be? Just realized Memorial Day is during that time. I was hoping to at least beat the "northerners" and enjoy smaller crowds.

Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest -- it's really the first big travel weekend of the summer. You won't "beat the Northerners" -- you'll be competing with both tourists AND locals. If you're looking to travel with smaller crowds, this probably isnt' the weekend to go.

Year before last it wasn't too bad. If I'm not mistaken, Gay Days is that weekend as well. It was more heavily crowded than, say, November. But not nearly as bad as Spring break or farther into summer break.

We have visited a few times right after Memorial Day - driving to WDW on the holiday. Each year it got busier, but never really bad. Try to avoid being in the parks on the long weekend, and you should be fine.

We started our vacation on Memorial weekend (Friday) in May 2003 AND May 2004. We did not find it to be as bad as we thought it would be. Our previous visits had been either in September or early December. We always avoid MK on a Saturday (any Saturday). The crowd level drops quite a bit after the weekend. It's a good time to go!

I don't think it is as busy then as some of the other holiday periods. Certainly busy, but not overwhelming.

I found the crowds quite heavy at times...especially on the weekends

memorial day weekend brought crowds and the next weekend was gay days which also seemed to bring crowds

we opted to go a couple weeks earlier this year

My DH and I went for a whirlwind trip the Thursday - Saturday following Memorial Day weekend in 2003, and it wasn't too bad. If you plan and do the EMH's, you'll be fine. It was never too crowded to do anything. And, the weather was not as hot as it will become - and believe it or not, NO RAIN!! I wouldn't be adverse to going that time again.
