End of February from Chicago- Struggling with decisions

DH and I are scheduled on a nonstop from Midway (Chicago) to MCO at 6:20 AM on 2/24.

I just checked the Southwest site, and I found a flight on 2/23 for the same price, but it has a layover in Nashville. Leaving Chicago at 7:40 AM, with a 1 hour 20 minute layover in Nashville. We'd be getting in to MCO around 1:00 PM. We're going down for a short 4 day/3 night trip.

If you were me, what would you do? Would you risk a plane change (and delays) in February knowing where we are coming from?

I would do it. Remember that if you get delayed out of Chicago they can put you on another flight that connects in Nashville. Or on a flight from Chicago to Baltimore. Since you are flying early in the day chances of you get out of Chicago on another flight are pretty good. And remember if the weather is too bad, airlines will allow you to change your schedule. I

I did a trip from MCO to Cle and got to Nashville and the weather was bad so they booked me on the first flight in the morning since I had arrived on the last flight of the night to CLE.

You should be fine.

There are 13 additional flights out of Chicago that day if we get delayed due to weather, and there are 7 additional flights out of Nashville if we miss our connection.


I guess those are pretty good odds

You should be fine then.

I looked at your flight options and I would not worry. If something terrible happens be kind to your customer service person and be flexible. Even if flexible means that you and your family are split up and put on two different flights because of seat availabilty. It might also be a good idea to buy the trip insurance you never know what Mother Nature has in store for next year.
