enclosed golf cart trailer and dogs?

We now have a golf cart. I may get an enclosed trailer for it, about a 5' by 10'. If I ad a small ac unit, a light and sound insulation, I could use it as a dog kennel for when we are away from camp. Would this be allowed?

Not sure, this is a new one. But, why not just leave him/her in the RV loose or crated?

Measure carefully. When we bought a GC, it would not fit in our 5x10 trailer. We had to buy a 6x12. Then we added a long top which does not fit in the 6x12, so I have to remove it and hang it on an inside wall. Now we're considering a 7x14 to be able to carry all our decoration stuff. A "never ending story".

The "rules" about where you can keep your pets on a campsite are hard to find.

The official Disney website says that pets cannot be kept in vehicles without air conditioning.

The waiver that you are supposed to sign at check-in says no pets in tents or pop-up campers.

If you have a hard-sided utility trailer with air conditioning, I would say there is no published rule that says you can't keep your dog in it.

Denise, I was planning on crating them in the rv. They are both house trained but the huskies do shed a lot of hair, no amount of brushing will stop it. We are probably renting a class A for this trip in June. I would like to keep the hair down to minimum, I will have to clean it before returning it. Plus, 2 large collapsable crates will take up a lot of room in the rv and I will have to remove the dogs on leashes then the crates. While this is going on the women and children will have to wait out of the way. Thats doable but will be a hassle with us staying 2 weeks and coming and going a lot. So i thought about the trailer doubling as a kennel. Surely "the man" won't object.

I wouldn’t keep any pet in an A/C utility trailer. If the is an electrical problem your beloved pet will heat up fast. Most dogs’ temps are around 101 degrees. When I bought my new TT we added two safety features for our dogs. 1 is two temp control fans that run on the house batteries for about 3 days if we lose power. Second is an outside alarm when temps get to high.

Well, that is something I haven't thought of.

I don't see a problem with leaving them in a trailer locked up with AC. While there are many scenarios, if left in the RV and there was an electrical problem, you'd cook them in there too.

Both are just flimsy boxes on wheels, some with better accomodations.

Respectfully disagree. Most/all RVs have windows that can be vented in case of power outages. The trailer probably not. Plus the RV will probably have better circuits than the utility trailer.

If you are at the trailer then none of this is an issue. But if you are talking about RVs having windows that can be "vented", who's going to do that when the power goes out? If you are off at the park and the power goes off and it's hot enough that you left the windows closed, you are going to have roasted dog no matter what.

Lots of trailers have those crank open vents in the roof. It would be very easy to add a few windows for venting too. But then you will have the people come along and say "but someone could cut the screen and run off with fluffy" (I've got a four legger named fluffy by the way).

Point is, if you are leaving the fur baby at the rig, you have to have them locked up with AC. Don't I recall a TCD post with rules stating they have to have AC and can't be in a popup? I assume that's so they don't escape or have someone mess with them. That can be accomplished in an RV or a trailer. You could run extension cords to the trailer if you don't trust your wiring. "But someone could unplug the cord". Yup, someone could unplug the WHOLE CAMPSITE too.

Either way, there is just as much risk. And if they are crated the crappy view is probably the same either way.

We leave the four leggers at home or with family. We have our hands full with the two leggers.

One potentially big difference is space. A utlity trailer with no a/c or ventilation is going to heat up to dangerous temps a lot faster than many RVs.

Personally this scenario would make me nervous - moreso certain times of year, if I wasn't 100% parked in the shade and/or planned to be away from my site for more than a couple of hours at a time.

I know DH would never go for it. He was already on edge with the dogs in a 19' hybrid with extra sun shades over the tent ends and 2 fans going in addition to the A/C.

The new TT is way more spacious and has high ceilings to boot. I'm pretty sure it could bake in the sun for the better part of an afternoon and still not be dangerously hot inside. Uncomfortable, sure - but not deadly.

But um... DH still leaves the "backup fan" on for the dogs. ;)

Everyone is making good points for and against my idea. I am thinking 2 small windows for cross ventilation opened slightly, a small ac, insulated walls and ceiling. I am 100 % confident in my wiring. The power cord going to the supply outlet could be anchored to the box to prevent someone from accidently kicking it out. I could rig a tarp above it for shade if needed. The longest time we will be away is about 5 hours. Here is a good question for the Fort veterans; Is a power outage in the Fort very common?

Not sure about common, but it does happen. It actually happened in the 500 loop back in November.

Why I added my safety futures to the new RV is because one of our long trips to the Fort when I still had my MH. We lost power to the 500 loop every day for most of the day. Many of people went out and bought generator because you couldn’t count on Disney power. We ran our generator all day when we were in the parks and almost ran it the whole trip.

It sounds like you are putting together a towable guest room:thumbsup2 Thats what we have.
Since you are going to this much trouble you may want to look into a thermostat controlled Fantastic vent fan that would run off your battery incase of a power outtage. I had one on my trailer before I put the roof air on it.
One question for you since you are renting a motorhome.
The company I worked for didn't allow towing with rental units. We removed the factory installed hitch and various other things before they went into the rental fleet. So you might want to be sure about that.

By the time you fix up the kennel you could have bought a pop up.

Tigger1966, I love the idea of the Fantastic fan. I found a place in Dallas where I can rent a 32' class A, 3 slide outs, and its ok to tow a trailer.

Sounds like you have a plan :thumbsup2
If you haven't allready purchased a trailer I would opt for a 6X12. And make sure about the celing heigth as some of them are to low for a top on the cart.
I installed a small window in the door to let air in and if you plan on keeping it you may want to look into an awning for the side.
