I always try to give verbal recognition especially in front of others.

I never made a negative comment in front of others.

I approach all issues from a solution focused approach.

I have an open door approach and provide support.

I give clear realisitic expectations and the support to be successful.

Speaking as a small business owner......I always feel the best way to keep morale high is for the paychecks to clear! I mean, if I bought pizza every Friday and patted everyone on the head, would it matter if the checks bounced?

Seriously, as a small, small business (so small, Rhode Island could kick the crap out of me in a war), I can't afford to raise someone's morale if they simply aren't cutting the mustard, as one weak link could kill me. As for those that are, If I have twenty bucks for a pizza party, I'd rather toss a five on everyone's desk and say "go buy a pitcher on me." And I treat people how I'd like to be treated. When one does that, what else can they do in bad economic times?

Pat-I understand that the size of your business definately does make a difference in the types of things you are able to do for your employees. I think that treating your employees with respect is a huge morale booster for a company of any size and it sounds like you do that.

These are such good qualities for an employer to have!!
