Employee discounts

Anyone have any good ones? Once my employer had a special discount on a retail product that used our part. It had to be ordered through the manufacturer's website using a code. One place we could get one free retail product, but most of our sales were to manufacturers. Other than that, I've never worked with a company that had any retail products.

I'd interviewed with Raytheon once, and I remember the candidate benefits packet mentioned only one discount. I thought maybe they might have discounts on appliances since they owned Amana, but they had Beechcraft airplanes, which seemed a bit impractical for most employees to take advantage. I was mentioning employee discounts, and someone asked if maybe an employee could get a discount on a Patriot missile.

I guess the best overall discounts I've seen are corporate discount cards. When I visited friends in the Seattle area who worked for Microsoft, a lot of places we went to had Passport Unlimited discounts. They also got some killer deals on hardware and games. They gave us an Xbox 360 that had a sticker saying it came from their employee purchase plan. Over the years we've gotten stuff like computer mice and games for the Xbox. Microsoft calls their Passport Unlimited card the Prime Card, although there were other companies in the area with cards. I knew a few people working at Intel, and their version was called Intel Vault, although it looks like it's been scrapped.

There are no official ones. I work for a group of doctors. The three that I work with are ENT/Allergy specialists and I definitely lucked out as someone who suffers from and is treated for season allergies, atypical reflux (no burning sensation, just a year-round cough), and chronic post nasal drip. Even with insurance, I have never paid less than $190 for an itty-bitty bottle of Dymista, the only nasal spray that works for me. Its two components, in their stand-alone form, don't even help. When the one doctor I work with heard me talking with another nurse about the medications I was on, he started to give me my staples (Prilosec, Nexium, Dymista) by the case (literally) whenever our rep comes in. Can't ask for anything cheaper than free!

Our company will custom-build a house for an employee at a discount off fair market value commensurate with years of service. An employee (if they have the necessary skills and credentials) can also contribute labour (outside normal working hours) and have the value deducted from the house price. Both of these things are taxable benefits however, and have to be reported as income.

This was somewhat of a benefit almost any company could get, but I remember my mom getting one through her employer.

I'm wondering if any Disney competitors (like movie studios or theme parks) ever tried to participate.

Nothing through my job. We can buy cases of frozen French fries, tater tots and hash browns pretty cheap from my husbands employees. These are the same ones a lot of places use (McDonalds, Burger King, Sonic) but we don't eat anything fried so it's nothing we take advantage of.

I didn't recall if there were any discounts on appliances, but it seemed like something that the average employee might take advantage of. A discount on a private plane sounded like it would be rarely used.

Some of the big consumer tech companies have great deals. The Microsoft employees I know basically got their Windows Phone plans subsidized. Even then, a lot of MS employees use iPhones. Apple employees have limits since they're worried about reselling.

We have a website that has a list of local companies that offer discounts or free item with purchase. We also get access to the ticketsatwork website as well as "friends and family" discounts at HP and Ford. My cell phone plan through Sprint is discounted 22% (would be the same discount with Verizon and AT&T as well)

Also, since I work for a Hospital, if we have to have surgery or anything inpatient, the hospital portion is covered 100%.

Our district has a discount program with Dell but it's cheaper to buy them at Costco.

Nothing where I work now, but I used to work in a grocery store. It was amazing the number of customers that assumed we got a discount on our groceries? Maybe that's a thing up north, but I'd never heard of that here in the South.

When I worked for Godfather's pizza in college, we were allowed to take home a small pizza if we worked x number of hours. My family liked that perk.

I know someone who worked at a pizza place that was close to a chain restaurant's central bakery. They used to trade pizzas for pies, although i don't know if management knew it was happening. I suppose they could have gotten big discounts, but I thought they were just taken without asking.

I served on a jury once where the case centered on a car dealership that accused a couple of mechanics of theft. During the trial, we heard from both sides that management was OK if employees brought in their personal vehicles for oil changes, and allowed them to use the equipment and draw oil from their bulk oil reels for the practice. Then it got kind of tricky when someone filled a container and took some oil home. There was a dispute over whether or not it was an accepted practice or not.

I worked for our local cable company and because we had to know our product, we got huge discounts for all the cable packages. When I say I got all the channels....I mean I got ALL the channels lol
The only thing we didn't get discounts on were PPV events.

I also worked at a call centre that took calls for Nintendo so we got to play with the Wii U fore it hit the stores. Plus, we could play with our handhelds at our desks.

My dh works in big pharma and his company has a store where company products are sold at greatly reduced prices. There is also discounts for museums and entertainment places all around us.

This is true for my company as well, and why I didn't mention it before baffles me. My Verizon bill is discounted 22% through my workplace. I'm going to have to ask on Monday if there are any other discounts available, because they definitely don't make them well known if there are. I found out about Verizon through my supervisor.

Sounds like a nice perk. We went on a school camping outing with families from my kid's elementary school. One dad was a supervisor at a local brewery. He strangely enough brought Budweiser.

I'm a college professor; all employees at my institution (faculty, staff, maintenance, cleaning and grounds staff) get free college tuition for all of their dependents (spouse and children). There are also a number of "exchange" institutions where they can also go for free. It's a huge benefit - worth about $160,000 per child .
