Emo kids

Aaah 14...my dd's 14 also. I'm going to close my eyes and open them again when she turns 18. Okay?

When you go to the restaurant, just don't make her sit on the same side of the table with you. You'll realllllly ruin her reputation. Oh, and don't get offended if she walks 3 steps behind you or in front of you. ;) I really like to get mine riled up. Sometimes I grab her hand or put my arm around her while walking through the mall. :earseek:

Good luck and hang in there.
Too funny. My DS actually walks soooo close to me that if I stop short he just about flattens me. DBF suggested that I stop short, turn around and give him a bear hug. :rotfl2:

I think he's afraid someone will steal him. :rotfl:

I just learned "emo" a few weeks ago.

My DD calls some of her classmates this (to me, not to them). For instance, she had to stay after school with her friend one day and attend a poetry club meeting. She said "so many of the kids there are emo." I asker her to explain and apparently they write a lot of dark, gloomy "emotional" poems and the walk around in a funk a lot. Reminds of the shows I used to watch with "beatniks" in them. Anyone remember beatniks?

You just described me in high school. :earseek:

Like Shaggy in Scooby Doo?

Hmmm...no, I'm thinking earlier time frame.

I remember an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies where Jethro gets caught up with some Beatniks and he becomes one.

Also, if you have ever seen The Goofy Movie, there is a segment where one of the girl characters is in a coffee shop and they are reading bad poetry.

Wasn't Gilligan a beatnik in one episode?

:)

Yes, I think he was. I wasn't a big Gilligan fan, but I do remember seeing that. Didn't he grow the little "thingy" on his chin?

Silly, you were emo before your time! :)
Apparently so, I was always writing depressing poetry and wallowing over my miseries. That's not a good thing, is it? :earseek:

Well, there is a whole "group" of kids doing that now. Who knew you were such a trendsetter? :confused3

Silly, you made it to adulthood, so it couldn't be that bad!

Christine, yeah, I think he did grow one -- is that a FuManchu?

no, mine at the moment is a Straight Edge Punk.

The good part - Straight Edge Punks don't drink, smoke, take drugs, or abuse their bodies in any manner.

The bad part - Straight Edge Punks are VEGETARIANS.

Which is fine and dandy except he wants the entire family to eat what he eats.

tofu = yuck. Mommy will never make it as a Straight Edge Punk dear. :p

Huh, who would've thunk it. In my time, we had the preps, techers (vo-tech), jocks and stoners.

In all seriousness, though, I'm going to have to ask dd14 about this tonight. I have never heard of such a group.

We had jocks, geeks, brains, potheads, and the rest that didn't fit anywhere. Our senior class president had a 4.0 GPA and was the biggest stoner you'd ever want to meet. Go figure.

ETA: DS informed me the other night that he's the only virgin left in his school. I told him that's simply not possible.

You know, it's no wonder there are "emo" kids. Look at the peer pressures. Granted, every generation had peer pressure when they were young, but I think it's a whole new level with our kids.

As you can see below - I have a long haired kid.... not EMO (in fact he likes RAP ... go figure, long hair and RAP :confused3 )

But he's fine - I mean is he a P.I.A. at time?!??! OMG, YEAH! But thank GOD for his own room... "Adios Amigo, I'll see *you* in the morning!"

It's normal - seriously - so normal. I'm 32, I remember being 14... And *I* BTW was an "EMO" kid - although we were called Punk, back then.

I try to always take advantage of the times Joey wants to talk and watch TV together, and go to Dinner - cuz I know that if the wind blows wrong, his mood can change in an instant. Thats really all you can do...

Bad News: Shes not your baby, anymore
Good News: You can legally move out of your house and never return - and not be charged with abandonment in only 4 short years!!! :cool1:

It seems the skaters (judging by the BAM shirt, I'm assuming he's a skater) like either rap or punk these days, so I'm not surprised. :)

Perfect Example...so funny you said that!

Actually not (anymore) a skater. BUT he still has the long hair (longer then mine now - so weird!)

But it's a perfect example of how kids go through phases. That was *just* taken in February - and he no longer is a "skater"

They go through phases, more then they go through underwear. :rotfl2:

Her DD will come around. She's just in a "phase" :earsboy:

Yeah the do go through phases. She still loves Bam though. She still wants a new skate board for Christmas. She just also wants a pair of black pants with chains or strings or dog collar looking things hanging all off the side. :confused3
