Eminem…(genius or jack***?)….

Is anyone into Eminem?

I know he’s a foul-mouthed punk, but I am hooked on his music. (I get the edited versions of his songs) I might even go see his movie ..8 mile.. which opens on Friday. I heard it is getting great reviews. (eg - very inspirational) There are some Hollywood heavy weights involved with it. The director from L.A. Confidential… the Oscar winning producer from A Beautiful Mind… actress Kim Basinger(hottie) ..

When one of his songs comes on in my car my kids get into their hip-hop groove. (head bopping) It’s funny to see two little “white crackers” (and me) turn into “hip-hop gangsters”. (“Yo yo yo what’s up”…”Eminem in the HOUSE”..”word up yo”)

I don’t just like the beat of his music; I get into his lyrics too. (Eminem..deep?)

“You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime yo”

(…come on what a genius I would never have thought of sticking a single “yo” at the end of the above verse..what a whiz)

I was watching a talk show that he was on. He was asked about his court appearances and his almost going to jail. He said he was never so scared in this life. He said he totally respects the law now.


PS – I think my secret age reversing concoction is working…(now where’s my Barney tapes?)

I like the song, "I'm sorry momma" not sure of the name. The one about childhood abuse. I think that he's a punk, but I see some intelligence there.:D

I have to admit, I like a lot of his songs -- granted, I'm going with the general assumption that a lot of the topics in his songs are more of a persona he's created than real life, and that probably helps.
 
I cant turn his stuff off when its on the radio!! (And its on ALL the time!!! :))
I love the beat to all of them!! I think he is talented and I think he can "Act" and like a Jack#@* But I do believe its all part of the act just like Marilyn Manson!
 

DD and I both love his music (radio edited version, of course). She doesn't understand "Cleaning out My Closet". She wants to know why his cleaning out his closet would hurt his mother. :D She's more into the rhythm and beat than the words. Although she does know the words to, oh crap I forgot the name of it (It was out a couple of months ago) Darn it!
 
I have a quesiton. Is Brittney Murphy his girlfriend in real life too? They dudes on the radio are giving away tickets and they always mention her as his girlfriend but I don't know if they're talking IRL or the movie.
 
My sister is a big fan of his.... go figure.... she's older than ME!

Well, we are subject to HER music on the 2 hour drive home from Tennessee and as much as I HATE to say it I kinda like his stuff!! I really like that one about how controversial he is (name?).

Of course, on the music automation here at the station they're all "radio edits" and since I grew up with the "ghetto lingo" I choose NOT to deal with it... :rolleyes:

I have 2 of his CDs (The Slim Shady LP and The Eminem Show) both are the original (parental advisory) versions. I don't have a problem with his choice of lyrics or his topics. I know they are just entertainment. Personally I have an unpopular view toward "bad" language.

I am not looking to get flamed here, just telling you what I think. It is my opinion, and I am not asking anyone else to share it, OK?

I have and probably always will think that words are just words. They have only the meaning that you personally give to them. (Yes I know they have dictionary meanings as well). It sounds corny, but I really think it is like that old kiddie phrase - sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. A word can not hurt you, the meaning you give the word is what hurts you. Similarly I do not think that "words" provoke people into violence. For this reason I see no cause to censor rap singers, movie producers, etc.... Don't get me wrong, I am all for parental advisories, movie/TV/video game rating systems, I just don't agree with some people who would like to see "bad people:rolleyes: " like Eminem banned for good.

I look forward to seeing his new movie. From the previews I have seen it isn't just another singer-wanna-be-actor. It looks thought provoking and interesting. He also (I am only going by the previews I have seen) looks like he might be a fairly good actor (not like some people lately *cough cough Britney * who just plain sucked in her movie).

I think the first song on his "The Eminem Show" album sums up his attitude and his view from the public. It is called "White America" and while it has a lot of that "bad" language so many are against, and tons of pokes toward other celebrities/political figures, I think if you can really just break it down into its basic meaning then you can put into perspective where he is coming from and the societal response he gets.

The only song of his I absolutely can't stand and skip over on the CD is "My Dad's Gone Crazy." I like his parts, and the idea is kinda cute, but I think Hailie sounds like a demented Donald Duck, and the sound of her voice just grates on my nerves.

Eminem, I could take him or leave him. Not a fan or against him....just really have no opinion either way.
 
I have to admit that I like the sound of his music...and it's probably something that I would have listened to back in the day. But I don't listen now and won't let my kids listen to it....even the radio edited. They KNOW what's being edited.......
 
When I can get past the jack*** part, I think he's pretty good. I do not like to hear his music when I have my youngest daughter in the car.
Instead of appreciating what he says and the music, I'm hearing all the things she isn't supposed to hear and flip the station.

If nothing else, he has made a place for himself in the industry.
 
Neither genius nor jack*** He is very talented and I enjoy his songs. I think the previews for 8 Miles look great and I like the video for it too.
 
I never heard any of his music except the little bit of that song they play in trailers for his new movie.
 
I love Eminem and I've never seen a problem with the lyrics to any of his songs.
 
genius- he is very talented and he also has the whole "rap" family behind him-- that is pure Genius if you ask me.-- I cant turn off the songs when they are on the radio either.

He definately has his own niche though.

I have to admit I crack up laughing to the song he wrote for his daughter. I guess his fans might get choked up, but to me, listening to Eminem is akin to watching the Jerry Springer show. The part where he is trashing his wife (or I guess ex wife, or his baby's mama) where he talks about going to jail for her, taken bats for her, beaten people with bats for her, well, it just makes me laugh. Maybe I'm too old, but I don''t find it really that touching. :teeth:
 
I think he's a jack*** but also talented. I like the video where he's dressed like some kind of a superhero wanna be.... and the song isn't bad either.... but I'm not much into rap in general so....

heh heh, Charlie, I'm giggling. I put on my serious face when I started reading it, and I'm really trying to feel the love, but its no use, it makes me giggle. I especially giggle when he wonders why he stuck his ***** in the wrong place.
