Do we have to be in the park already for EMH or can we leave the park and come back? Do we just show our resort key? Also, when do they distribut the bracelets?

The wristband distribution starts about 2 hours before the evening EMH. Go over to allearsnet.com for the locations.
You do not have to be in the park at this time. As long as you are a Disney resort guest you can arrive anytime after the EMH begins and you will be admitted and given a wristband. You can also leave and re-enter the park later is you want to, as long as you are a Disney resort guest.

Do we just show our resort key?

Yes, and a valid park admission ticket for each person, for admission.

When you get the wrist-band, you WILL NEED a resort key for EVERY MEMBER OF YOUR PARTY.

In the MORNING EMH, only ONE resort key PER PARTY is needed (and a valid park admission ticket for each person, of course) to be admitted.

If you are staying at a Disney resort chances are your room key will also be your theme park admission. The computer at the entrances knows whether you are a resort guest or not and will only allow resort guests to enter.

This is far from a universal situation.

We have APs (thousands do) and so we have separate passes and resort room keys for each trip.
We make sure to have both our tickets and our room keys when entering an EMH park.
