When did this end? >>> Previously when staying at an Epcot resort (BC) and EMH was scheduled for MK we would get up and walk through the Epcot via the international gateway and exit at the main Epcot entrance where we would take the monorail to MK.

NOW...they will not let you in to Epcot until 9 a.m. thereby defeating this previous advantage of staying at one of the Epcot resorts. Please tell me a logical reason for doing this other than budget cuts? :confused3 :rolleyes1

We have stayed at YC, and whenever there was EMH at the MK, you never could walk through EPCOT, you had to take the bus from YC to MK. Don't know when you had that experience. I mean if EPCOT does not open before 9, why would they let you in?

No offense but that tells me you have only been doing this within the last year or two as it WAS open prior to this. Never is a BIG word.

It's been a long time since my stay at the YC, 2001 to be exact, but we were not able to enter through the International Gateway prior to the opening of FW.
On the days that the MK had EE(it was EE back in those days) we had to take the bus to the MK.

i dont know if they used to let you do it or not...but taking the bus sure is easier. and faster. why would you even wnat to do it the other way???

I agree, that's a LOOONNNGGG walk, and then you have to switch monorails to get to MK. I don't consider that one of the advantages of the Epcot resorts at all!!! Busses are much more convenient and faster for MK.

Our first stay at an Epcot resort (Boardwalk) was back in 1997. I don't recall Disney ever letting people in via the International Gateway just to exit out the main entrance. As others have said, it is a VERY long walk and would take a lot of time. You would already be at the MK via a Disney bus by the time you made it to the other side of Epcot. Then you would have to add in the monorail time.
The hours of the International Gateway are exactly the same as the main entrance of Epcot.

I guess if you're lazy and out of shape this is true. :smooth:

Did you just start this thread to argue with people? For what its worth - I wouldn't consider it an "advantage" to "get" to walk from the BC all the way through EPCOT to the monorail in order to switch monorails at the TTC before finally reaching the Magic Kingdom. To me it just sounds like a big pain. If they did used to let you through the IG for MK early entry, perhaps other guest found it as big of a pain as I would and thats why they changed it.

That "lazy and out of shape" comment is really offensive. I am an aerobics instructor and marathon runner, but I still wouldn't walk all the way to and through Epcot to catch the monorail for MK. I think people were just trying to help out. That's what these boards are all about.

Note to k5thbeatle:

I walk a minimum of 3 miles each and every day in about 50 minutes. On the weekends I ususally double the distance and time.
The previous two posters hit it on the head. We are all here trying to help each other enjoy our WDW trips, not start foolish fights. If they ever did let people into the International Gateway to walk to the main entrance that was likely a long time ago.
It seems to me that lately there have been a small, but annoying, number of people trying to go out of their way to irritate those of us who are trying to help others. Do us all all a favor and try a different board. The vast majority of people here on the DIS are wonderful and caring people who really love WDW.

Agree totally - helping each other & sharing our Disney love is the theme of this board. It's a real downer to see some of the negative comments & arguments.

That's a bit presumptious... not everyone can walk that far or fast to make it worthwhile...

Methinks someone has issues with being wrong..... either that, or they're just trolling for trouble.

My first stay in an Epcot area resort was 2000 & they sure didn't let you into Epcot before 9am then.

I do enjoy walking thru Epcot & taking the monorail to MK sometimes from the Epcot area, but don't consider it the fastest or most efficient way to get to MK & would never think of it as a "privilege" for EMH or Park Opening. I do it in the later part of the day because I enjoy the scenery & I like a chance to ride the monorail at least once on my trips

I'm glad someone else noticed this, I thought it was just me. I was even thinking of recommending a whole section be started for "Complaints and Opinions". That way they wouldn't be on the "Attractions and Strategy" board. How did this "just trying to help" thread start down the wrong path again!!!

I don't think that this discussion is helpful to planning a trip, so I'm going to close it now.
