EMH and bringing a friend of dd not staying at resort?

I was wondering if anyone new if children needed to have their card scanned to stay for EMH? We will be at disney because of a competition my daughter is in and was wondering if we could take a freind to epcot with us at night even though she is not staying with us. I was there in Dec. and they scanned all our cards but we were all adults, do they scan kids cards also or can we take her with us even though it is emh.

When you go to get the bracelt, every individual has to be present - they have to put it on you. To get it, you have to have a resort ID. She could stay in the park, but not ride the rides. They put the bracelet on you so that it can't be slid off of you.

The only thing I can think of is that you could bring scissors and tape, cut yours off, and tape it onto her. The CMs at the ride entrances just look for the bracelet...they don't inspect it. But then you can't ride.

Or you might find a sympathetic CM (but I doubt it).

We got married at the Wedding Pavilion on 12/29. We had friends and family coming in from all over. One of my close friends from high school (Myaid of Honor)was there for the first time. We planned on taking advantage of the EMH until 4 am so that we could do the things we wanted to do. Needless to say, we were pretty tied down with wedding related plans and functions. It broke my heart to think she might not see everything she had been looking so forward to. We had concierge print up an extra key with my BILs name on it. In all honesty, the three of us (me, new DH, and MoH) all got our EMH wristbands with one room key. BIL (who lives in Orlando and had no reason to stay in a hotel) used the key we had printed in his name. We used the excuse he needed one so that he could come pick up the tuxedos to be returned. I'm sure if we had said we lost one, they would have made a copy, too.

We have used evening EMH many, many times and since scanning began this year, the CMs will scan all members of the party and put the wristbands on themselves. This includes all children 3 and up. I have seen the CMs ask whole families to step aside while they dig into their backpacks looking for all of their IDs. As for slipping past the CMs at the attractions, I find after 6 trips to WDW last year, the CMs pretty much have their act together, often having one CM check first with a second CM standing behind them to check again. We have always been asked to show our wristband even when the weather is cold and we have long sleeves on (which can be a pain constantly sliding your jacket sleeve up). The CMs seem to know all of the tricks now, that is why they started scanning the IDs, so that someone can't hand their ID to someone else and get another wristband in another line. When the IDs are scanned now, it tells the CM if it is expired or active and if it has been scanned already that evening.

In December they scanned every card, even my dd's 8 and 10.

If you have less that the maximum number of people staying in your room perhaps you can add her as a guest to your room and get her a key. She would not have to stay with you of course but she could if it made things easier. FWIW if you have more than 2 adults in the room already you may have to pay the extra adult fee (over 18). It may be worth the $10 - $25 depending on which resort you are staying at.

Every time we've attended EMH (May, July/Aug, Oct, Dec), all of our cards have been scanned, including my 5 yo's. Sometimes, our youngest (under 3 during previous visits) has been given a band despite not having a resort card. During our Oct visit, we saw a couple turned away from getting bands at MGM because the wife did not have her card with her. I forgot my card when we went to Epcot one night in Dec. I was disappointed but decided that it wasn't a really big deal since my youngest child would not want to ride much anyway. I just planned on walking around and looking at the decorations until she was ready to retire for the night. The boys could just do their own thing. However, when my dh and the boys got their bands, my dh got to talking to one of the CM's and explained what I had done. She told him to bring me to the end of the line and they would give me a band. As she snapped on my band, she said, "Have a magical night!" As luck would have it, dd was asleep within 5 minutes. I didn't visit a single attraction -- just walked around, eating sugared pecans and enjoying the sights. Regardless, the friendliness of the CM's put me in a fantastic mood that seemed to last the remainder of our trip! (If any WDW execs are reading this, take note!!!! A little guest-friendliness goes a long, long way.)

I think the rules are everyone must have resort ID but the one time we did it, DS had forgotten his and we were worried. Only showed one ID for the whole family and they gave us 5 bracelets.

If its a child and would not put you over the limit of people in your room, why not just add her?

When I was there in December, they scanned every card, even those of the children in the family ahead of us (and there were about 5-6 of them). They made sure there was one card for each person getting a wristband

Do they only scan the cards at the main entrance? When we were at the MK and got our wristband for the evening hours near the steamboat there were no scanners. They just checked for resort ID's for all of us and gave us our wristbands. I always thought what is to stop you from getting the wristband for you party and then passing the resort ID's to another party and have them wait on line for wristbands? In the case above, arrive at Epcot before EMH begins and go to one of the alternative locations for a wristband. One parent gets in line with DD for wristband then you hand off DD resort card to her friend and the other parent gets in line with the friend. It should work in theory if they only look at the resort ID and do not mark it in any way that indicates it has already been used to get a wristband. You also will need to pay for admission to the park for the friend unless she has an AP.

It looks like it's been almost a year since you've been to WDW. I would think they've changed the procedure since your last trip (but I'm just going by your signature, I could easily be wrong!)

On our last trip, they scanned EACH resort ID, and our DS was only 4 at the time!!!! They wanted to see EACH ID. I agree, if you can add her to your room, then do.............. if not, then she can either stay in the park with you and not ride, or, sorry, just not go. They are really pretty strict with it......... I personally wouldn't try to "trick" them. NOT saying that you would, but I'm just saying I wouldn't!


OH, I also wanted to point out, that I have read where they've told someone who "forgot" thier ID, to go and get it!!!!!! SO, I agree with some of the other posters, it seems as though they've got it figured out.

I"d just add her to the room if I had the space! Good Luck!

We were at Epcot for EMH on Friday night, all the CM's that were giving out wristbands hand hand held scanners and you had to give them your resort ID for them to scan and they were scanning everyone.


Like someone said, if you aren't over your limit of guest in your hotel room, just add her to your room. That way she technically is a resort guest and can enjoy EMH with your daughter.

Thanks for everyones input but I think it is better not to chance it,We are only there for a few days and just thought it would be fun for the girls because how many times are her friends in Florida the same time, we are from Ct. The room idea was good but we have four already and we are on the meal plan so I don't think we could add her. Thanks again

I would go to the hotel front desk the day you are planning to go to EMH and explain the situation to them they woudl prob just give you a key for her since it is only for the day.. also.. the worst that can happen is that she cannot ride any rides the first hour.. after that she would be able to ride all the rides and enjoy teh day with her friend. it snot like she is sneaking in she has a ticket to get in and it shoudl not effect your meals as long as she does not charge on her room key you are fine...
