Emergency Dolphin Question

OP here. I joined SPG. And, get this...problem solved. You can print a temporary card. I did that and then I called and added my member number to my reservation. I hope hope hope I get an upgrade.

Another question. Do I have to ask for the room upgrade or will it just happen??

Thanks to everyone for the help with this.

most likely, the upgrade chances are probably better at check-in...unless you are travelling at a very slow time.

what type room are you booked in now?

Wow, it seems you all have had better, more easy going experiences than I have!! I HAD to show my card. Not only that, it is my husband's card and he was not with us on this trip. I had requested the reservation be under my name as it was MY credit card and I knew he wouldn't be there anyway. They gave me a BUNCH of grief because it was HIS card. I am SO LUCKY I had my check book with me to show the front desk clerk as it has both of our names and our common address on the checks PLUS I had to phone my husband on my cell while at the front desk so she could OK it with him!!!! Ugh. That was the same idiot that insisted I was checking in on the 12th when it was the 13th. ANOTHER good thing - I had my computer receipt printed out that I was arranged/reserved to check in on the 13th NOT the 12th like she insisted. She took my info into the back without a word of "I will work this out," "just a minute" - nothing! Just took it and walked off for about 10 minutes while I stood there worrying what's up. After it was all resolved, no "I am sorry" or anything close to customer service.

OK, there are a couple of lessons in there somewhere!! ;)

Just turned me off of the Dolphin, I think. Too much hassle after a delayed evening flight with 3 tired kids. The front desk needs to keep in mind they ARE the FIRST impression people get of the hotel - other than it's appearance. Unfortunately the employees can make or break it for me.

This has me worried! Our hotel reservation is Jan is being entirely paid for by redeemed Starwood points. They are my fathers points, and he checked with Starwood customer service when making the reservation and they said it would be no problem for him to use them for me even though he wouldnt be there, they just told me to bring my confirmation printout and my name is on the reservation along with my Dad's. I was going to bring his card with me just in case, but now I'm worried they will make a big fuss over it and I will have to call him etc etc. Ugh

I'm booked in a standard room. It would be so nice to get an Epcot view...

There's a section on the S/D website (I think it's under feedback) where you can request a view. I'd try that as well.

Enjoy your stay :)

melissa If you have a printed confirmation, I would think you'd be all set!

From what I have been reading, I am pretty much alone in my troubles with the Dolphin!!! Sorry to get you nervous. As I said, there is a lesson in there somewhere!!! I guess it depends on who you get at the front desk. :confused3 We recently stayed at the Sheraton Royal Hawaiian and we DID have to show our SPG card to the front desk, along with drivers licenses. Just bring your paperwork for sure!!! Double check that YOUR name is also on the reservation. It all worked out for me in the end, just a bit of a hassle. The thing that kills me is that I am the one that filled out the paperwork for my husband's card and I make all the reservations for us!! ;) I wasn't even using points at that time, just made our ressie with his card so he would accumulate the points!! I think I got a real jerk at the front desk. She had NO personality or customer service abilities. Just very blah and rude.

The Dolphin is a lovely hotel, with many positives. That experience just kind of turned me off and the fact that they messed up my bill AGAIN for my Thanksgiving reservation.....

Enjoy!! :sunny: I think I am in the minority here!!

I feel a little better now. I'll just make sure I have every possible thing on hand I might need to make it go smoothly. Thanks.
