Emergency at WDW

As an ER nurse and volunteer EMT, please never hesitate to call 911 in an emergency, Trust me, not everything we do is like what you see on TV, and we know that. Calling 911 or going to the ER for a stubbed toe--wrong, calling/going to the ER for something sudden, unexpected, painful, or you just want to be "better safe than sorry"--definetly Common sense rules. Your advice is defrinetly wonderful, sorry it took a scary situation to wake us all up!

I highly recommend going to Celebration Hospital. They are wonderful there!
Any front desk can give you directions, and it's VERY close to WDW. I'm pretty sure if you call 911 that's where they'll usually bring you.

My Dr.'s are all at Celebration Hospital, and I've had to use the ER a couple of times. I can't say enough about them!!

A few years ago, my DS (probably 9 at the time), left his glasses down at the pool by mistake and when we went back down to get them, they were gone. The Disney people at the front desk were amazing. I called my son's eye doctor back home , he faxed the prescription to the front desk, and within an hour we were at a Lenscrafters that they told us to go to (I think that was it). Both Disney and the eye place were awesome. Made my son feel really ok about the whole thing.

Point is, I have vision insurance and never thought to take my vision card on ANY vacation. Well, now I do!

Ok I am not a doctor, or anything like that but, What about getting physicals before you go? Especially since the recent deaths?

Oh dear, i'm having flashbacks from last year, we spent the night at the swan after staying at the beach, and Saturday night DD 8 got sick, threw up in the bathroom at the wilderness lodge bathroom after eating at Whispering Canyon. We went back to our room at the swan and she went to sleep and was ok, but got sick again the next morning all over the pretty white bed linens. Then DD 3 got it, and we had to drive home all 8 1/2 hours to NC because my DH had a class to teach, and had to be there (Automotive technical school). It was horrible, it is a terrible feeling to be so far away and not know where to go. We're lucky to have a lot of family in FL if we had to go to a backup plan, their all within an hour from WDW.

Moderators, I'm not sure this is the correct place for this post but I think it is important that it be seen by as many DISers as possible.

Some of you may have seen the thread about my DD on the community board. She became seriously ill late last Sunday night while we were staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort. I loaded her into the car and set out for the urgent care center by the Crossroads. It was closed and my next stop was Downtown Disney where I got directions to the Sand Lake Hospital. Long story made as short as possible, I got lost and wasted valuable time. Thank goodness, after surgery, she is recovering.

My point is this, we should never leave home to stay at a hotel without printing out clear instructions on how to reach the nearest hospital.

If I realized just how serious DD's situation was I would have called 911 but in the beginning I did not know just how seriously ill she was. We worry about gathering up all the things that help make our trip easier like sun screen and mole skin and all the little tricks we have learned but sometimes overlook the most important ones.
Please be smarter than I was. It could save someone you love.

You realize now you will HAVE to go back when DD feels better? ;) . Please pass on my well wishes and tell her to get better soon.

pepperw23, It will be a little while before she will be up to a trip as she ended up having emergency surgery last Sunday night and has a 7 inch incision.
I hope to take her back in October for MNSSHP. That is one of her favorite Disney trips.

Thank you so much and I'm glad things worked out. On our last vacation to WDW our DD fell out of bed and hit the back of her head on the nightstand really hard! We had to watch her all night thank god she was Ok and it was nothing serious but just a reminder that it is definately good to have an emergency plan if needed.

Wow. Sorry to hear your daughter got ill, but I'm glad the surgery went well.

Great reminder.

i am glad your dd is doing well and i agree that we should have directions to the hospital, but i do believe i would call the front desk first or even 911 since i am not in my own state, i would not want to even chance getting lost, parking in the wrong area anything like that at all, i would already be freaking out over my daughter

i again am so glad she is alright, i commend you all you did for her and the ability to remain calm i would have paniced, i am tough in the courtroom and corporate america but when it comes to my baby, i'm all mush :confused3
