What’s up with these alligators? I’ve been reading about these alligator attacks. I remember a few years ago Disney visitors spotted alligators in Disney World. How likely is it that I’d run into one during my stay in Emerald Island? Is that why all the homes have fences around their pools? The thought gives me the creeps. Here is a picture I found of a alligator being feed (a turkey leg) AT Disney World – this was actually at the park.

We've stayed in vacation homes at Windsor Palms and Sunset Lakes. Both times we were told that if there is a body of water, then there are alligators in it.

We often see the alligator at BCV in the canal.

I would just be careful around any pond, lake, or marsh areas.

if there's a body of fresh water, treat it as if there are gators present. they don't want anything to do with humans. the idiots that threw the turkey in those pictures are the main problem. the other factors in the attacks this year is the drought we've had, and it's mating season.

I own in EI and I have been told there has been a sighting. If there is fresh water in Florida there can be gators. Have never seen it myself or any of my family or guests. Stay away from the water areas and always be aware and you should have no problems. Have a great stay its a great place to vacation.

Orlando and Kissimmee have more lakes than parts of Minnesota....

so it would be just about impossible to find a place that wasn't near some fresh water.

so just be carefully.

I hope the thing is off the endanger list so it can be hunted again.

Dmjj,

I sit back and wonder what was I thinking those early mornings I jogged on the Nature trail :sad2: So yikes looks like I will not be doing that again!!

According to the news, there are between 1 and 2 million alligators in Florida .:scared1: .

There are gates all the way around the pool. Could it happen I guess anything is possible, but truelly not likely.

Would alligators go near the pools?

if the pool isn't fenced and they have the opportunity, absolutely. we've got an environmental zone and a lake off of our backyard. the EZ is drying up due to the lack of rain, so we watched a couple gators walking over to the lake a few days ago.

We just got back last week from a lovely pool home in EI and we never saw any gators. We did see a huge raccoon rummaging through trash that some bobo threw out in a plastic bag (instead of secured in a trash can).

All the pools are enclosed - the more prevelant concern is bugs, not gators, but the screens keep gators out too. I'm not familiar with them, but I highly doubt they would be seeking out a chlorinated water source. Things would have to be pretty darn desperate for that. The key is FRESH water. Just avoid (or be alert/careful) around ponds etc.
