Emerald Aisle Question

No, it is not the same. With Quick rent you are selecting the size/type of vehicle, still by passing the counter, however, you cannot pick from the Emerald Aisle, only the aisle in the class of vehicle you select. IE; Intermediate, only the intermediate aisle, full size: only the full size aisle.
You cannot use coupons for Quick Rent, you can with an EA rental.

It is all explained quite well on the National website.

If you book an SUV, you can ONLY go to the SUV aisle.

If you book Intermediate through Emerald Club then you can either go to the Emerald Aisle or the Intermediate Aisle. SOMETIMES there are other cars besides Intermediates in the Emerald Aisle but there will mostly be Intermediates. Anything else is a bonus and not guaranteed. I've have yet to be lucky enough to get any thing but an Intermediate.

I cannot believe that with all the cars you have reserved you have only been able to get an intermediate. Bummer. We always get full size, like Impalas and Intrepids. Last time we were there, in late Jan, there were SUV's, full size and those PT Cruisers, a couple of trucks, no converts, however.

Better luck next time. :)

I get it now! Thanks so much. Actually, it sounds like a real nice concept. Do any of you use EA at TPA instead of MCO? I'm curious to hear if you've been ucky getting a full size car there...maybe more/less likely than MCO?

I have only used it in Orlando but have always had at least a full sized car.

Nope! Not one time yet, BUT this past December when I went to pick up that rental I had for $110 total (remember that great rate I got back when they switched their system back in March 03?) which they switched from Full size EA reservation to a Full size NO EA reservation because of their changes to the EA; well, when I went to pick a Full size from the Full size aisle, I noticed on the EA that they finally, after all these years, had a PT cruiser and one Jeep! I couldn't believe it. But, of course, this was the first time I couldn't pick from that aisle! The irony nearly killed me!

I'm hopeful one of my rentals this year will be something exciting though!

Is a National full size noticeably larger than an intermediate?

The benchmark for intermediate is a Pontiac Grand Am. I've also seen Olds Alero, Toyota Corolla. Not room enough for more than 4 people.

The benchmark for full size is a Buick Regal. I've also seen Pontiac Grand Prix, Chevy Impala & Monte Carlo, Buick Century, Toyota Camry, Chevy Malibu. You could fit 5 people.

Then they have premium size which would be a Buick LeSabre size.

Oh, I sure do remember that fantastic rate. I was soooo jealous!!!! I love the irony, isn't that always the way?

It is to me. Put a Grand Am up against an Impala. The difference is noticable.

Glad we went full size-we'll be 5 adults this time.

We have used EA at Orlando 3 times a years for at least the last three years. We have always been able to get a full size, either a Camry or a Grand Prix. We have only been to Orlando once with an EA reservation for intermediate rather than full size (in January) and got a Grand Prix off the EA. We'll see how we do Sunday morning.

Forgive me for picking your brains. I should go read up on some of this stuff, but my brain is beginning to feel like it will explode from all the "WDW research" I'm doing. You all seem so knowledgable & it's soooo much easier to just ask.

Is EA available at the Car Care Center? If so, should I check into it for a 1 day rental?

Right now I think we're going to get a town car from MCO to Pop--probably with a short grocery stop. Then I want to rent a car at CCC the morning we leave, so we can put the luggage in the trunk & eek out a little extra time at WDW. (plane leaves early evening) I don't want to lose a bunch of time getting back to Pop & meeting up with a town car.

So... Will this work? Am I crazy? Is there a better way? Do I need to just get over it & do roundtrip with the town car? Is there any way to get a week of rental for close to the price of the town car?

(Can you tell I'm making myself crazy? I'm beginning to get on DH's nerves a little. )

Off the top of my head I do not know if they have EA at either the Car Care Center or the Dophin, BUT, the website will tell you where EA service is available.
