Hello;
We're planning our return to WDW, and this time, we need the extra space!
So the choice seems to be coming down to Embassy Suites or Doubletree. (We have not stayed at either hotel).

We will be renting a car for the duration of our stay.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, I have not stayed at either but did just book a suite at the DoubleTree in downtown DW, very good rate imo, 74 a night. HTH's and good luck!!

That's a fantastic price! When are you going?

Is it your first time offsite (it will be for us, we're quite excited about it).

Our plan is for Feb 2010, so we have quite a bit of time to wait & see what deals are available, do some research, and ask opinions.

I have stayed at ES and it has always been a enjoyable stay. You will have two room suite and 2 TV's and a hot breakfast cooked to order.

We are going in late Sept, have a suite with a bedroom with two double beds and a queen sleeper sofa. This is my first family trip to Disney. We have Hilton Honors, so we do get the breakfast included with the level of membership. Also, supposively, we get an upgrade at check in too, depending on availability.
Good luck planning!

So far, it seems like Embassy Suites is coming out ahead in recommendations. DH saw pictures of the pool(s) and the rooms and he's already there!

I guess we'll just have to start checking prices closer to the date......

Any more recommendations would be very much appreciated!

Unfortunately I don't have direct experience with either of the hotels you're considering, but as a general rule I concur with the majority. We've liked most Embassy Suites we've stayed at, and their cooked to order breakfasts beat most continental offerings hands down.

Have you checked trip advisor reviews for the specific hotels you're considering? That sometimes helps.

Good Luck with your decision.

We stayed at the Doubletree at the beginning of June and loved it. There is a folding door between the sleeping area and the living area, which has a settee and a table that seats 4. The kitchen area had a microwave and fridge. The pool isn't fancy , no slides, but we enjoyed it. There is a poolside bar as well. We got room service a couple of times in the room, so the kids could just chill out in the room and that was nice. There was a small grocery shop in the lobby that we used to re-stock water and drinks as we couldn't be bothered to go out to a grocery store.

The drive to the parks was really easy, it took at most 15 minutes to MK, and about 10 mins to DHS and Epcot. It is minutes by car to downtown disney, or probably a 20 minute walk.

Hope this helps.

We stayed at Embasy Suites a couple of years ago and loved it. This is the LBV one. They had free snacks and drinks on weeknights and movies by the pool some nights. The free breakfast was amazing. The chef would make Mickey or Minnie pancakes for the kids if they liked. They also have a Pizza Hut in the atrium.

Just a quick question about Embassy;

Do the rooms have windows / sliding doors that open? We just checked out TripAdvisor - the pictures of the pool & atrium look beautiful! However, we couldn't tell from the pictures if the rooms have sliding doors to balconies or not....

Our room was an atrium room, so our door opened onto that view. There was a window in the bedroom. There were many rooms that overlooked the pool but I don't recall if they had balcony or outer corridors. You would have to call.

Hi - as of yet, have not stayed off-site but our upcoming vacation itinerary looks like this - 3 nights at Disney resort, 4 night cruise and back to Orlando following the cruise for 2 more nights. I have booked at Doubletree Suites at Downtown Disney. I booked through allears.net and got the 2 room suite for $79 per night with breakfasts included. My neighbour has stayed there several times and raves about it. We hope it's the right decision too - good luck!
