Embassy Suites N, S or Doubletree Suites?

I was originally planning to stay on property, but am having serious reservations (no pun intended) about whether that expense is really worth it at DL. We went to WDW last summer and stayed 4 nights/5 days at AKL in a concierge level room for almost the same amount it is costing for a 2 night stay at DLH w/o concierge service. My main reason for choosing concierge level is the continental b'fast and just having another place to hang out at the hotel--the happy hour is nice, too. So I am now really considering staying at The Doubletree Suites, The Embassy Suites North or the Embassy Suites South. We will have a car and aren't against driving to the park if we need to. Does anyone have any input about these hotels or I'm open to hearing all the benefits of staying on DL property, too!

Thanks so much!!

I have stayed at both the DoubleTree and Embassy Suites South and I would recommend the Embassy Suites South out of the two. Based solely on the great breakfast they offer for free. You can't beat a cooked to order omelet and pancakes to start off the day. I do think that the beds are more comfortable at the DoubleTree, but not enough to make a difference.

Neither hotel is really within walking distance IMO, so that doesn't make a difference. Embassy Suites also offers an afternoon/evening managers cocktail hour with free drinks and hors dourves. Usually from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

However, you do get a warm cookie at check-in at the DoubleTree, so that makes it a tough call. :rotfl2:

Embassy Suites North is a longer distance away and I prefer to feel like I am right next door to DL.

I would also recommend Embassy Suites South, it's closer to the parks then the Embassy north as well.

I would also recommend Embassy Suites South. It is the closest and honestly you can't go wrong with Embassy Suites. They have a great free breakfast plus the afternoon snacks are a nice added bonus.

You really need to read Hydroguy's tips (sticky thread at the top of this page), particularly section 11 of this one - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599 - that discusses the on-site vs off-site issue at DLR, and this one - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199862 - that suggests you get a hotel within walking distance. None of your selections above are within walking distance.

My daughter (age 6 at the time) and I stayed at Embassy Suites South and loved it. Wonderful breakfast included in room rate....very nice suites. There's an awesome lion in the atrium that "wakes up" and roars every 15 or 30 minutes...super cute. Decent pool too.

The ART shuttle picks up right out front...and it is the only stop on that line...so no stopping at other places going or coming back from DL. There is a kiosk out front to buy your tickets, very simple.

I also agree that the Embassy Suites South is the best of the three. The Embassy Suites North is nice, but too far in my opinion.

For those of you who have stayed there, how was the ART on this leg? I'm not a huge ART fan but if this is the only stop that might be okay--but how many stops does it make before arriving at the Embassy? And does it take a mid-day break (seems like it's always right when I want it to be convenient for MY mid-day break!).

Anyway, the ART situation is the only reason we're hesitant to book this for our trip next December. We are huge Embassy fans otherwise.

We used the ART while staying at Embassy Suites South. I'm not crazy about it. Going to Disneyland on the ART was great, but I hated waiting for it at the end of the day. It just seemed like there were tons of people waiting for them and then everybody would scramble/crush to get on the bus.

That particular ART bus has only one stop though, which was nice. It stops right in front of Embassy Suites South (but there are also other people on it from the hotel next door I believe).

There is a mid-day break...I can't remember the exact times...but definitely an inconvenience.

I booked a room at ES-South. What about driving to DL instead if using the shuttle? Is that a viable option at all?

Also does ES-South have a nice kid friendly pool?

Does anyone know where the nearest Marie Callender's restaurant is? I love their pie!!

Thanks!!

ES North is much farther away about 15 mins. I stayed there once it was nice but TOO FAR. ES South is in Garden Grove down the street but you can NOT walk. They offer a shuttle. If you want close + breakfast stay across the street at best western park place inn or Desert Inn.

We drove to DL when we stayed at ES-South and Hampton Inn (same parking lot). I find it more convenient than waiting for a shuttle that may or may not be on time. That and I get free parking with my AP. Directions from parking lot:

turn left onto Harbor
turn left onto Katella
turn right onto Disneyland Drive
make a U-Turn at Ball Road
Follow signs to Mickey & Friends Parking Structure

It rained the day we stayed there so I do not know about the pool.
